Online book is the same as the hardcopy.

Hi,
I'm ready to start my 10 year-old son on AoPS Prealgebra. I'm new to the middle-school / high-school part of AoPS, and really don't know what would all be necessary to get started. I see there are lots of you, moms and dads, here, who have experience with AoPS. AoPS offers the paperback textbook (with solutions), in addition to the online textbook. One can purchase just the paperback, or just the online book, or the combo (paperback + online book) .
So, the question is, is it enough to just buy the paperback version? Or would adding the online version as well enhance the learning experience? From what I can see, one can access Alcumus and all videos for free anyway. I'm inclined to think just the paperback is enough, but wanted to consult with you so I can make a more educated decision.

More than likely considering the style is much different than WTM.
I haven't noticed the typos, really. And the drawings aren't what I'd call high graphic content, but they certainly are inviting to a child whose drawing skills aren't the best either.
I like using MBTP and will continue with it.
I agree. I used one 5-7 concept, three 6-8 concepts, are about to start the fourth 6-8 concept and so far I haven't noticed the typos. Really! As far as the drawings, they're really not that bad at all. Very simple, unsophisticated and child-like but not something that distracts or takes away from the quality of the material. I, too, like MBTP and will continue to use it. Perhaps not the science and social sciences that begin with 7-9, but will definitely use it for the lit units. In fact, I just purchased the 7-9 Tornado unit today for my 7 year old son. Yay!

Aside from Moving Beyond the Page, there's a unit study on Hellen Keller within volume 2 of "Beyond Five in a Row". We haven't done any of them yet, but a friend who did do BFIAR with her 3 kids says they all enjoyed the unit very much. I'm looking forward to study Hellen Keller at our homeschool and still have to decide which one to use. I'm leaning towards MBtP, although it'd be nice to have BFIAR too. Perhaps we'll use BFIAR as a supplement for additional fun and creative ideas. My 2¢. :-)

We are currently doing MBTP 6-8 concept on Culture with my 6 yr-old son. So far, we have really liked this. It is an enjoyable and instructive study of geography and people from around the world. It includes hands-on activities, reading usually very beautiful books, and quite a bit of writing. There is usually a regular and advanced option, if your child is not much into writing for many activities. Or you can always modify the writing assignment. We just finished a guidebook for South America yesterday and he used the computer to do a power point presentation instead of writing in his workbook. It worked like a charm. Thanks for the info Arcadia & Slackermom. I appreciate the feedback. It does sound like a cool thing to have it all handy!! That "community" feeling to it might even prove motivating for a child. Hmmm! It looks like I might opt for the combo package :thumbup1:
