  1. Is that really what your 23 yo said to you? I think I'd smack my 23 yo son if he said anything like that to me!
  2. You can transfer, but as a junior? I looked into transferring to Penn after getting an AA from a community college. I essentially would have been starting over. I went to Rutgers- Camden instead.
  3. Being a Carolina Panthers fan is like bleeding to death from a million paper cuts!
  4. I personally wouldn't want to miss Christmas with my dc. I would go right after if possible. But I don't think it's selfish for you to go if that's what you want to do.
  5. While I don't agree with closing all home and private schools, I do think it would be a lot fairer if all of the education funds in a state were divided per student and given to their schools, instead of rich districts having lots of money and poor districts barely having any.
  6. I was saying, the alternative is for the NFL to have its own minor league, not that they already have one. We should stop exploiting unpaid student athletes and pretending they're getting educations by decoupling the NFL and college football.
  7. J Just another reason why college football should stop being the NFL's minor leagues.
  8. The last time I went out in public before my youngest was born, I must have been giving off a vibe that screamed, "You comment on my pregnancy, YOU DIE!!!" Because no one did. So maybe work on that.
  9. I bet SNL is going to have fun with this. Or are they still in reruns or whatever? That was my thought as well, I just watched, thinking, "What the..." Why did the whole thing look so, well, cheap? The costumes, the foam finger, the teddy bears, it looked so amateurish. Was it supposed to? And, really, was it supposed to be sexy somehow? Because none of it was. Sign me, Baffled and Spent Way Too Much Time Thinking About This Oh, and Key of Awesome is hysterical! You should all watch the parody of Bruno Mars' Grenade by them.
  10. In my state, "Honors" does have meaning. It means that the student completed about 33% more work than the regular course. Upper level foreign language (3 and above) are considered inherently honors.
  11. No, no, that was Patrick. Judd brought him the gun though. In the movie, they made Patrick and Marianne twins, I guess to kind of explain why he felt compelled to "execute justice."
  12. I hope this thread helped then, LibraryLover! I didn't know you moved.
  13. Judd (the youngest brother) is the narrator. That is his voice. If its sarcasm and jagged irony, it's Judd feeling that. Really, the whole thing is more Judd's story than anything else. He's driven to understand what happened to his family. I identify with him as the youngest of 4 of an also fractured family. It's interesting that you read it that way though, because I really didn't take it that way.
  14. Once they are adults if they want to watch this sort of movie they can. But nobody's watching it around me.
  15. In the elementary school my kids go to, which is in a rural, somewhat poor area, it's probably not common at all. My youngest boy makes the cutoff by less than a month and I'm sending him because last year I paid an average of $800 a month for his care while I taught part-time. This year I will pay nothing and I'm very happy about that! He's ready to do the academics so I am not concerned about that. However, in the very affluent town 20 minutes away, I bet 90% or more redshirt. They can afford to.
  16. I felt like the flashbacks were a little too frequent at the beginning though.
  17. It's also funny how people immediately start thinking the worst of you!
  18. The movie was pretty good, book was better, of course. The actress who played Marianne was fabulous! I just don't get the parents. If one of my daughters was raped, and my dh told me he couldn't bear to look at her, I would tell him to get over it in no uncertain terms! I certainly would not send my dd away! This from the mom who couldn't bear to part with her antique treasures because she only bought things she loved. Did she love Marianne? Not as much as she loved her dh I guess. The total disintegration of what seemed like a happy family was so compelling.
  19. I watched this movie last week and just finished the book. It's a story that's gotten under my skin and I'd love to talk about it.
