    In years when we don't throw a party for ds we will do something special such as taking him and a friend to an amusement/water park for a day. For his upcoming birthday we are doing a day with a friend at an entertainment center that has laser tag, mini-golf, go carts and an arcade.

    We have hermit crabs and really enjoy them. I know they are supposed to be nocturnal, but ours move around a lot during the day. They chirp and climb and are just generally interesting to watch!

    :iagree: I had it last year and it took several months to recover and even then I would have a few good days in a row and then a day where I couldn't do anything. It can take a long time to feel totally better.

    :iagree: This is exactly what I thought of also. I would not feel comfortable leaving the kids with an 11yo for such a long time with Mom so far away. I think you should ask your friend directly what the plans are.

    Ds has the Tromso loft bed. It seems very sturdy and apart from a few small spots where the paint has worn off it is in excellent shape. It is at least three years old because we bought it used on CL.
