  1. Interesting. I hadn't considered that option. Thank you for sharing!
  2. I have taken generic Synthroid for years and finally asked my doctor about Armour. I was still feeling tired. So tired. So he agreed to let me try Armour. I feel a little better on it, but it's WAY more expensive. And my lab numbers are about the same. What about Nature-throid? Is it worth trying that one? My doctor would let me try it, and it's a lot cheaper than the Armour.
  3. If you are on Facebook, join the Homeschooling in Virginia group. Lots of connections there.
  4. I agree that that's a lot for 4 days. Also, consider driving time - it's about 45 minutes to an hour drive between Williamsburg and VA Beach, depending on exactly where you're heading. More if there's traffic. And right now, there is major construction on the interstate between them, so it's a crap shoot.
  5. We've been playing it as a family. Side funny note - my DS was looking at Pokemon Go on my phone and he was in the process of turning it off and giving the phone back to me when he fell out of the van face first. Of course I made sure he was OK, but we've all been giggling about it ever since
  6. Because I need something else to do in addition to cooking all the meat in our deep freezer that died today, we apparently have fleas. We have 2 cats. They don't currently use any Frontline or anything like that. First thing tomorrow, I will be getting whatever Petsmart has!!! Give me the lowdown on what worked for you to get rid of the fleas. I know it could be a long process.
  7. I have 2 DDs from China and we will not be seeing it in the theater. We will probably rent the DVD when it comes out. Both of my girls have anxiety issues - one DDs anxiety comes directly from the time she spent in an orphanage. She, in particular, is very sensitive to issues about her birth family. She frequently asks who her China mommy is, if we can go visit her, why her China mommy left, etc. So I'd rather watch the movie at home where we can pause it and answer questions.
  8. I spend $600 a month for a family of 5, but only I am Gluten-free. Dairy-free and GF definitely adds a lot. Also, teenagers? I am frightened for when my kids are teenagers - they already eat a lot!!!!
  9. In my state, grade level doesn't matter. So I call my kids whatever grade they would be if they were in school. It's useful for things like church groups, co-op classes, things like that. But then my kids do whatever grade level work I want them to. For example, my 2nd grader (by age) is doing 3rd grade math because she finished the 2nd grade book early.
  10. I use a laser B&W printer for most printing. If I absolutely need color printing, I have a color inkjet. But really, I use the B&W one for 99% of my printing. My laser printer is also WAY faster than the inkjet. And I also use a Proclick for binding. LOVE it!
  11. Here are the facts: - DD will be 6 in 2 weeks. - She has a repaired cleft lip and palate. - She has been doing intensive speech therapy for more than 4 years. - She can make every sound in isolation. She can't carry it over to conversation. - Her receptive speech is off the charts. She can repeat things, follow directions, etc. - When she meets new people, they can understand less than 50% of her speech. - She struggles with anxiety, in the form of extreme perfectionism. She has an appointment with a play therapist next week. - She is frustrated. We are all frustrated. Here are the not-so-agreed-upon issues: - Current speech therapist thinks DD has a moderate tongue-tie. ENT doc does not agree. Cleft surgeon has agreed to do a tongue-tie release surgery. (None of us think that this is the major issue.) - Cleft speech pathologist thinks maybe motor planning is the issue. (Although, our Cleft SLP deals mostly with feeding issues in cleft babies. She hasn't seen too many older cleft kids with such severe speech delays.) So no one really agrees on what the biggest issue is. I think we all think there are a couple of minor issues, creating a perfect storm of major articulation issues. DD desperately wants to learn how to read, but Phonics is frustrating her even more because she can't make all the sounds correctly while she's reading. What other ways to learn to read are there? I am so confused about what to do to help DD. I will do anything, but I don't want to make things worse!!!
  12. Yes, it will drive you insane. Researching history choices sent me over the edge!!!! I decided on Biblioplan Year 3 - they don't have Remember the Days yet for that one, so my 1st grader is just going to follow along with whatever. I got all the different Cool Histories and Maps and whatever for my 5th and 3rd graders. And now, I don't even look at other history choices!
  13. Could be Gastritis. The ibuprofen could have irritated your stomach.
  14. We have a similar-sending family here. DS will be 5th grade - 2e - highly gifted, also dysgraphic Older DD will be 3rd grade - highly gifted, also struggles greatly with anxiety. She sees a counselor every week and a Psychiatrist periodically. Younger DD will be 1st grade - highly gifted, and she goes to speech therapy twice a week. She also sees a conselor for anxiety. Throw in various medical appointments for both DDs due to cleft lip/palates, an all-day co-op once a week, homeschool PE at the Y twice a week, and karate twice a week for all 3 kids, and it's a miracle any school work gets done around here at all. Honestly, some days, it just doesn't happen. But there's no way I could send them to school - both girls would miss school every single week for appointments. So e make it work. I am exhausted, and most days, I wonder what we are doing. I've learned to let go of a lot of things and focus on the wellbeing of all of us!
  15. I use plantoeat.com and I plan on a weekly basis. I look at the grocery store ads and choose meat that is on sale. Or I stock up on meat and freeze it. I also look at our calendar so I can choose for example, a crock pot meal on nights the kids have karate 5:30-6:30. I typically do not pre-cook anything. I just plan a meal for each night, grocery shop on Sunday, and then cook that meal.
  16. Add me to the list. I have 3 kids, but the noise. I can hear people swallowing, I can hear the a/c hum, I can hear everything.
  17. I'm thinking about giving my mom a subscription to the grocery delivery service Shipt. Has anyone used it? What did you think of it? My mom is having major back surgery, so I thought it might be a good thing to give her to help out for a while.
  18. Here are some of our favorites. I use plantoeat.com as my menu planner. It takes a bit of work to get started, but once you have your recipes imported, you can make a calendar and then it will make your grocery list for you!!!!! http://allrecipes.com/recipe/83296/balsamic-chicken-and-fresh-mozzarella/ http://www.skinnytaste.com/crock-pot-santa-fe-chicken-425-pts/ http://www.thenourishinggourmet.com/2009/05/delicious-and-simple-lemon-garlic-drumsticks.html http://lecremedelacrumb.com/2015/09/slow-cooker-chicken-marsala.html http://allrecipes.com/recipe/235997/unstuffed-cabbage-roll/?lnkid=fb2951 Another thing I do - for some recipes, I make double and freeze it!
  19. SO much to do today, but I don't feel good. At All. I have a feeling the only thing that's getting done today is driving 5 minutes to Target to get toilet paper. We are down to less than 1 roll in the house.
  20. My DS is almost 10 and he is into writing songs. I am so NOT a writer of anything, so I have no idea how to direct him on this. I REALLY want to encourage him, but the only thing I've come up with is getting him started with writing poetry. What's out there for his age?
  21. I have been known to donate homeschool books to Goodwill.
  22. I used to get migraines with the flashy aura - once I had the aura, sometimes I would have pain, sometimes not. As soon as I get the aura, I take Tylenol and drink some strong coffee. What helps me - eating gluten-free. I discovered this quite by accident. Before I started eating gluten-free, I would get maybe 4 migraines a month. Now, in the 2 years I've been eating gluten-free, I've had 5 migraines - 2 of which were the day after I ate something that wasn't gluten-free. I don't think gluten causes all migraines, but getting rid of it is what has helped me. I do still get frequent allergy headaches. If I could get rid of those, that would be great!
  23. We don't usually start new levels in the fall. We just keep going whenever we finish one thing. Math - currently doing Beast Academy level 4 History and Geography - Biblioplan Year 3 Writing - currently working on IEW SWI-A, not sure what he'll do when he finishes that one Grammar - nothing right now - maybe Easy Grammar Science - Elemental Science Biology for the Logic Stage
