  1. For those of you that try and stock up/ keep a fully stocked pantry... how do you go about it? We get paid 2x a month and when we get our tax refund I will do some major stocking up, but I want to be able to maintain it. Should I just have 1 grocery list for the montha and reuse the same list every month as a base (and just get produce, etc as needed)?
  2. I'm pretty sure that I am losing my mind. It seems like every time I am on my way to do something, I forget what it is that i was going to do. Usually I get distracted, sometimes I just forget. My dh very sympathetically (not) says "yeah, ADD is like that". For example, there was something I was going to ask you all about, but I can NOT remember what it was :lol:. :willy_nilly:
  3. So is there a secret to cutting the biscuits so that you aren't handling them too much after the first go 'round. I tried the Paula Dean ones (I actually had whipping cream I needed to use), but the ones I cut out later didn't rise hardly at all (I was cooking them in the oven with the pot pie - so at a slightly lower temp thean remommended) It was hard to tell with the first ones - they were topping the potpie. What do you think, was it most liking because of temp, overmixing/overhandling or having to share the oven?
  4. When the can doesn't pop, just beat the center of it against the kitchen counter, that usually works well :D.
  5. My instinct is drop biscuits becasue they are easier, but I don't think that I want to just drop them into the liquidy filling - do I? The steam is a good idea, so smaller biscuits would probably be better than one really big one.:tongue_smilie:
  6. I want to try and make Turkey pot-pie for dinner tonight. I do not have a pastry mixer thingy, so I was thinking of making biscuits for the top instead of a crust. Can I just use one of the non-drop biscuit recipes from the the no-fail biscuit thread and just lay it out on top of the pie filling stuff as 1 big biscuit?

  10. My cookbook says 120-130 degrees, but mine only rise half the time, so I could be doing it wrong :tongue_smilie:.

  12. My recipe doe NOT tell me to proof the yeast first. It has me put the yeast in with the flour and then add the warm/hot liquid ingedients. Should I proof it anyways? It also uses milk, but no water.

  14. I am using Fleischman's (it's what they had the individual packets of at Walmart) Is Red Star a kind of yeast? It sounds vaguely familiar -I'll have to check out other kinds - is there a big difference in prices of yeast?
  15. I have started making dinner rolls with yeast from the recipe in my Better Homes and Garden cookbook. The dough eventually rises (at least the first time) But it takes longer than the hour recommended in my cookbook. It doesn't really rise well at all the second time (after the rolls are formed). It says about 30 minutes and I am giving it closer to 45 minutes. I am letting it rise in the oven with a pan of almost boiling water. My yeast is new - is it just that my recipe is bad? I have been using my meat thermometer to try to get the liquid ingredients the right temperature (it the only one I have) - is that the problem? How do you make yummy, fluffy wonderful dinner rolls? or pizza crust?
  16. Someone gave me a couple of really big e-book files. I am in the process of sorting through them. There are a lot of books and authors I have never heard of. I don't want to delete them just because I haven't heard of them. I am trying to get the books categorized by type and then author. (So I have a folder called fantasy that has folders with authors and/or series in it.) Each folder will also have a miscellaenous folder for authors who I only have one book for. My question is: Is there a good place I can go to look up an author and find out what type/category of books they write? I can find good book descriptions on Amazon, I'm jjust not sure I want to look up every book in these files (there are thousands). If you can think of a better way to organize large amounts of e-books in the computer - Please feel free to share...

  18. You could have a digital one ready and upload it to winkflash.com. They regularly have flat rate book sales. So any number of pages for 20-100(?) are the same price. Different sizes are different prices. You would probably want to have each page ready as a single jpg picture (easy to do in photoshop/ps elements)

  20. I have hundreds of ebooks that someone gave me (many of which I am interested in reading, many totally random ones) so I am mostly sticking to those. I will download library books as well though am I am about to read a real book and not looking forward to it nearly as much. (it needs to go back to the library soon and all of the kids have read or listened to it and are dying to tell their dad and I all about it - I read books, he listens to them and neither of us have gotten to this one yet) I could not find a free (or very cheap) kindle version of it - I looked :tongue_smilie:and may do so again.
  21. Her attitude doesn't seem ironic to me at all, it sounds just right in character. Usually those who judge have the attitude/fear that they are always being judged.
  22. We've never had a problem with it. We get the 3-packs of flour tortillas at Costco and freeze some of them. We do not do this after they (the individual packs) have been opened.
