I agree with Pamela's assessment.

I think that a preacher has a different obligation to the listener than a politician. A politician should stand firm to his constituents desires. Whereas a preacher should here the listeners point of view and talk it through with them. As for your daughter, I don't really think that she has to give in to a small minority if in fact it is her conviction. There are always going to be people who disagree, you cannot please everyone.
