  1. Does VP usually have another half off self paced courses sale between now and September? I didn't have enough money saved when they had the last sale!

Easy peasy! We did the testing option. Needed statement of intent w/list of curricula, evidence of hs diploma (or more) and results of test (there's a list at HEAV)sent in by Aug 15. If kid scores 25% or higher, golden. If lower, 1 yr to work it out and retest.

Diploma for the teacher, and Aug 1 for letter of intent, Aug 15 for test results. Other options available.

  3. Does anyone happen to know if there is a big difference between the 2005 version and the current 2011 version? I know they have updated the cover and made it look a little more flashy, but I'm not familiar with the book at all and am wondering if I can use the 2005 version to as much benefit of my son. Thanks in advance for any input! Kelly
  4. Several years back I used a curriculum several years ago that pulled together books from different authors about the type of science you were studying. For the life of me I can't remember the name of the curriculum and am hoping someone can help out. It will be especially challenging because I don't really remember the specific books that were used. It was for younger grades, and I remember there being a book about the periodic table. This is a long shot, but again would really appreciate any help from those of you who still have your memories intact!
  5. I was wondering if anyone was aware of a good curriculum that specifically addresses the rivers, mountain ranges, etc., of the world. Thanks for your time!
  6. I buy secular curriculum, but I was curious to see what was up on this thread. That said - I wouldn't buy any secular or non-secular curriculum if it included something like this. It makes the rest of info in the curriculum suspect - in addition to a number of other red lights it would set off.... Quoted from another user above. I don't agree with the Sonlight information that is being referred to in this thread. But if you don't believe in evolution you often have to use books or curriculum that teach it as a fact in order to teach other scientific principles. Does the fact that a book refers to evolution as a fact make the rest of the information in the curriculum suspect? Am I to accept everything else scientists say is true regardless of the number of red lights which are set off by the fact they are teaching evolution?
  7. Does anyone know if Memoria Press ever goes on sale anywhere? Or is it one of the -publishers that doesn't let anyone discount their material? Thanks!
  8. I'm considering Mystery of History for the first time. I have looked at several different web sites to get information in terms of the additional books they use for recommended reading, but can only find references to "living history" books. Can anyone please give me a specific about what books they recommend? Thanks!
  9. Hi I have used both programs and in my house, Harmony Fine Arts worked really well. My kids are not artsy and never want to do any type of art themselves so Artistic Pursuits was something I purchased and then sold without using (unfortunately after I had purchased all the needed items! ) What I found was that Harmony was more about teaching kids about Fine Arts and Artistic Pursuits was more of a hands-on art program for the kids themselves to learn how to do art. I hope this makes sense and helps!
  10. I read about this site on multiple different posts but every time I try to get onto the site to browse lessons I can't get it to come up; I have been able to pull up browse activities twice but it takes almost 20 minutes to download, making it almost impossible to use. Has anyone else had these problems? Any suggestions? thanks
  11. Does anyone know if there is a newer edition of Omnibus I than 2005? I'm starting to look for one used, and every one I've found is from that year, but one person was selling one they claimed was from 2009, and on the VP site I can't find what the current edition is. TIA!!! Kelly
  12. Hi Just came across this on HSBC. It says it is a classic but I've never heard of it before. Anyone purchased it recently or used it in the past? It says it's for kids up to 17 but the front of the box looks like it's for younger children...feedback on age range would be appreciated too! (I'm so tired of buying things that look great but turn out not to be for us!!!!) :D
  13. I stumbled on this program on Amazon, where one reviewer said it was much easier to follow than Tell Me More or Rosetta Stone (my son hated Rosetta Stone, so I know that particular way of instructing won't work for us). Also found out it's cheaper than either of those, so that's a plus! Just wondering if anyone had tried this with their kids (either Kidspeak or their regular computer program). Thanks!
  14. ...of A Guide to the Great Books sold by Veritas Press? Thanks in advance, Kelly
  15. Yeah, that's why I said I had already remailed the package. It was just one of those bad situations because I didn't really want to sell this particular book but did because I really needed the money...and after paying for shipping twice and the paypal fee I actually gave away the book for free! I was just curious if anyone would disagree with that because I have run into sellers who would refuse to pay for reshipping since she didn't make it clear the address was different...and some sellers aren't willing to eat a mistake like this and give things away for free! Thanks again.
  16. I have already paid the postage, so this is just an opinion question... I had a buyer who paid me through paypal. In her email she sent her address, like many buyers do. She did not say anything other than "Here is my address." The next day I went to paypal and printed postage. (this part is definitely my fault - I didn't check to see if the addresses were the same. In my defense :) I have never had anyone give me a different address than what was in paypal unless they specifically said that it was different than the address in paypal but this is where they wanted it mailed.) It came back return to sender. She contacted me today and said it was my fault because I sent it to the wrong address. I agree partially, but at the same time I also think it was her responsibility to point out that her address was different from the one in paypal or, better yet, to change it in paypal since she knew it was wrong. I'm just wanting input on what you would do in this situation. Thanks!
  17. Doesn't anyone know how to put a lapbook together? Please?
  18. I bought the Olympic lapbook from Currclick because it looked so interesting but have never made a lapbook before. On the instructions on how to fold the lapbook, I have made it past the point of successfully folding the manilla folders but don't understand the instructions on how to make the folded folders into a book. Can someone help me out with this obviously simple process that for some reason is beyond my grasp?? Thanks!:001_huh: Oops, one more - the instructions say to glue one of the sheets to the front of the lapbook. How do you do this when the front opens up? Do you cut the sheet in 2? Thanks again!
  19. I bought my son one of the individually packaged Lego minifigures (maybe series 6?) the other day, and horror of horrors, it contained the female medalist swimmer instead of one of the boys! I had joked with the cashier at the register, telling her she needed to be sure to pick out one of the boys for me, and she said she had a girl, so they were always trying to get the girl figures. Anyway, that made me think that maybe out of all the families out there, there might be another family who got a boy figure but wanted a girl figure. So, if you would like the female medalist swimmer and have a boy minifigure to trade, please send me a PM! Thanks in advance!!! Kelly
