It depends on what you're wanting from the doctor. If you want prescription pain meds or prescription anti-inflammatory drugs, or you're concerned that you have something serious, or you just want a diagnosis, then you should go to the doctor. Otherwise, I'd save myself the trip and money and try to figure it out myself. I wasted a lot of time and money going to doctors because they would freely hand out meds, but they weren't the least bit interested in true causes and prevention. If you can afford to see a holistic doctor, though, I might go that route.
Whatever my problem is I would want to choose a natural way of treating my symptoms. I guess ultimately I would hope this is a temporary problem but I'm beginning to have a gut feeling that it's not. I'm thinking of keeping a little journal outlining food to see if there's a correlation.

So do these symptoms warrant a trip to the doctor (I know that's probably a rhetorical question :).) I guess I'm asking because if it's dietary allergies or other allergies causing my pain maybe I have to figure it out myself?

They were both four when we adopted them. We also have a daughter we adopted at birth.

Since August I have had periods of joint pain in my hands and feet. Can you suddenly develop arthritis? I mean I don't remember any symptoms leading up to this. And I don't always have it but when I do it lasts a few days of general malaise and joint pain.
I am otherwise very healthy, exercise daily and we eat a healthy diet.
I hate going to the doctor but I'm considering going to talk with him about these symptoms.

Including Cabbage which means cabbage rolls for dinner.

Absolutely great excercise for your entire body. I was sore in places I didn't dream were possible after long stretches of sparring.

My boys have slimmed down doing Karate. The classes are structured around stretching (including situps and pushups), learning and practicing their moves, then sparring. The sparring is the most energy expenditure so by the time it's done they've worked out adequately. There are some lazy kids who try the class out, but they quickly quit because the instructor is very disciplined. I'd look for an instructor that keeps the class in control and doesn't allow horseplay.
We attend three or four classes a week, depending on our schedule. I have them practice every morning as a warm-up for school, too. And when they're cranky toward each other I let them spar with their pads on. It gets them tired out and they usually end up being nicer to each other when it's over.
The instructor seems to have a good reputation.

My 11 yr ds would like to take Karate. He is also a child that carries extra weight so I'm interested in engaging him in physical activities. Anyone know if karate expends enough energy to make it good exercise?

Ok, this is going to sound weird but have you tried going without deodorant? I actually don't wear anti-perspirant/deordorant much and I found that wearing it actually caused a mildewy smell with me. I experimented much and determined that the deodorant was the problem. :glare: Being the conspiracy theorist that I am, I have decided that this was by design.
I mean you might be right but I'm kind of afraid of ditching the product all together. Maybe I'll have to try that on a day when I'm not around anyone (which probably won't be anytime soon!:001_smile: Or maybe when I'm just around my kids. I'm sure they'd be honest with me!)

Yes, it can be an age thing. It happened to me during perimenopause, but then calmed down. A couple friends had it too. I could have just showered and used deoderant and a couple hours later, it was really bad. I just had to keep reapplying.
I'll try some of the other suggestions but maybe this is a perimenopause thingy.

Do you eat a lot of meat? Meat eaters tend to have more body odor than vegetarians (or so I've read).
Having too much yeast can cause body odor (there's a questonaire at wholeapproach.com)
You might try mixing baking soda, corn starch, about 1T ground up dried lavendar, and a few drops of lavender oil together and let it set a few days. Then sprinkle it under your arms in place of deoderant. The lavender will help kill germs that cause odor.
In fact a vegetarian diet would suit me fine (and we often do eat meatless). Even when we do eat meat it's usually in small quantities.
Yeast . . . well I do love bread and bake my own. That would be very sad! :)

We have experienced this too and recognize the devastation the loss of a pet is. Prayers and blessings to you and your family.

Without the fine cosmetic companies, we'd be a stinky family. :)
Switching brands was my first thought -- I can not use the same brand of deodorant two tubes in a row. I alternate between Secret and Degree. In the summer, I do use the clinical strength at night, as recommended, and then the "matching" regular deodorant after my shower in the morning (in other words, if I'm using Secret Clinical, I get the powder fresh scent, and use regular Secret Powder fresh scent in the morning).
In addition, I "freshen up" during the day with Arm & Hammer unscented deodorant. I like the baking soda.
In the winter, I can use Arm & Hammer by itself, I usually get the powder fresh scent then.
Also, for some reason, any scent other than powder seems to turn on me.
HTH.
Thanks for these thoughts though. I went out and bought a different brand to see if that helps. If it doesn't I might try your suggestion . . . clinical at night and regular during the day.

If you've been using the same brand for a long time, that could be the problem. A few years ago, I had to stop using Secret (after using it for several years) because it seemed to stop working but I just switched to another common brand and all was fine.
Well I will try this. Thanks.

My husband thinks I'm crazy but in the last month or two I have noticed that my anti-perspirent doesn't seem to be able control odor (at least odor I smell). No one else appears to smell me but it is driving me crazy.
I have never, ever had this problem and am not an excessive sweater although I do notice it more when I'm hot.
Is this an age thing? (I'm 44.) I'm not thrilled at purchasing the 10 dollar clinical strength products but would if I knew they'd solve this problem.
Any ideas?

You know I think we might just skip this one. Three hours of boring isn't what I need the night before we leave for a 16 hour driving vacation. And in case you're wondering why we even rented it, it was on our zip list (Canadian equivalent to Netflix) and we got it today.

There are great reviews at:
http://www.pluggedinonline.com
They tell very specifically about both positive and negative content in movies.
-Doesn't necessarily condemn or condone, but gives the true picture regarding what you're really going to be seeing in the movies. Sometimes there are spoilers, so I don't look at the review if it'll just be dh and me, but for any movie that my kids are seeing, I definitely check there first.
Probably 'cause I'm in such a hurry getting ready for our vacation tomorrow.

I want to be in bed by 10 but that doesn't always happen. Getting up at 5:45 is way easier in the summer where I live . . .the winter months are so dark it is hard to get up early.
-
I guess it's one for dh and me only.

year olds.
My dh and I rented it for tonight and I'm wondering if all of us could watch it? We're fairly conservative.
Thanks.

I don't know if it's fun, but I give my kids a Stonyfield drinkable yogurt, a piece of fruit (usually an apple or banana) and a bagel with cream cheese.
That's a great idea.
-
I was going to suggest homemade muffins and cheese-sticks.
Breakfast burritos could work, but that sounds like a lot of work right before you leave. :)
:iagree:

We usually take bagels and cream cheese with bananas on the side. The mini-bagels make great snacks too.
Have fun!
Good idea about the mini ones.
