  1. Congratulations!! She is just adorable!
  2. What about: The Unschooling Handbook by Mary Griffith (2010 pub) 102 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum by Cathy Duffy (2014 pub)
  3. This was exactly my thought. I have a kid who struggles in the area of testing. He is just not very good at it. I don't really know exactly why. Laziness when reading the questions? Misunderstanding them? Freezing up and forgetting? Feeling the time crunch? Running out of time? I just don't know. He would be the kid that could end up failing a final that he KNEW the material. I'd be glad, as a parent, that the teacher knew my kid knew what he was doing and chose to pass him despite what his "grades" show. I don't put much value in grades myself. I'm more interested in knowing they "get it."
  4. Ooh my goodness. He is just so cute!!!! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  5. Tips: - Let your ice cream soften to make it easy to scoop it out and spread it into your pan. Then refreeze. - Use parchment paper on the bottom of your springform pan, otherwise your cake sticks and it's really hard to get off (not that I know from experience two different times or anything... :leaving: ) Good luck! ;)
  6. I use Avast- the free version- with Ccleaner and the free Malwarebytes for good measure. This is perfectly adequate. I wouldn't pay for any antivirus software.
  7. It's just occurred to me that DS15 actually has started and switched laundry to the dryer on his own a handful of time in the last few weeks. It's definitely not a regular occurrence by any stretch of the imagination. He also holds doors for me (all the boys do, actually). My kids are willing to help without much complaint, but they need the jobs pointed out. They don't "see" the need on their own for the most part.
  8. Um...I have a 15YO and a 12YO...they still don't help out because they feel like it. The only way any of them do anything is if I say, "here's your list for today. Get started." ;) I doubt they will ever just help because they saw something that needs done despite the fact that we DO tell them regularly that, as members of the family, they are supposed to help us out each day. It's part of being a family. If you want help every day, I'd give them jobs. :)
  9. I too would call the doctor's office myself and ask them to resend the prescription since the pharmacy lost it. I'd also be tempted to report it since the whole thing sounds very fishy.
  10. Here are mine: ketchup, mayo, miracle whip, most pickles, deviled eggs, red beet eggs, raw tomatoes, watermelon, cantaloupe, any melon really, oranges, anything with fake sugar or food dyes, most fish... I'm sorta picky. ;) Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  11. We just moved. We turned our water off here when we were away. DH wanted it done. ;) Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  12. At that age, I'd have him help me clean it up and move it out of the room. I'd explain that we don't do that to chairs. I'd also probably give a time out of four minutes.
  13. This is how I felt turning 30 as well. ;) I'm not sensitive about my age either. I still love my birthday, in fact. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  14. Soon after I had my oldest (15.5 years ago), I was at a carnival/fair type place with XH. We were waiting in line for something and the carnival guy asks me when my baby is due. I looked at him with death in my eyes and said, "What. Baby." You'd think he'd have taken the hint, but no. :glare: He simply replied (like a complete idiot), "the one you're pregnant with." :cursing: :cursing:
  15. OOHH!!! Well, yeah, that's silly. And that makes way more sense. Thanks for the clarification. ;)
  16. That's basically what it is. They "skim" the extra fat off the top of it, leaving it "watered down." http://www.thekitchn.com/how-is-skim-milk-made-ingredient-intelligence-215893 I didn't read this too closely, so it hopefully actually does answer the question.
  17. Um...I can HEAR the T before the Z in that video... :confused1:
  18. I just googled too. Those are cool! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  19. As an aside, if you ever wake up with a bat in your room or walk into one outside, you should either catch it and bring it in for testing or just go get your rabies shots. Only 1% of all bats HAVE rabies, but that's still thousands of bats. Rabies can only be stopped within the first two weeks of catching it as well. After that, it's almost certain death for people...not to be morbid or anything... :leaving: We had several bats in our house one summer and all had to go in for rabies shots. I learned a lot about bats and rabies that summer...especially since I had one in bed with me ON MY LEG!
  20. :grouphug: I'm so sorry you're dealing with all of this. Prayers for you and your family.
  21. My kids would end up in public school. No question. DH can't homeschool them on his own. His job is far too demanding. He'd have to send them all to school, which wouldn't actually be terrible in our current situation. We are in a great district now (we weren't when we started homeschooling). I don't know what he'd do about the upkeep of the house or making meals. He can cook, but as I said, he is a busy man at work. I can't imagine him coming home and then making dinner too. I suspect he'd teach the kids how to make dinner. This would ALSO be a good thing for my kids to learn...hmm, maybe I should get on that...;)
  22. We had another offer in on our house the same night that we made an offer. We stuck to the price that we felt was fair and then said a prayer. Our offer was accepted by the bank that owned the property. I don't think you should change your offer. If that's your house, you'll get it. If not, there's another one out there for you. Good luck! :)
  23. I've had this happen to me as well! The guy was sure he dialed correctly, repeated back the number that was mine, and then we were both confused. Lol. I like to assume that "Rick" just had slight dyslexia and transposed some numbers when giving it to the guy. ;)
