  1. I agree, but then I thought maybe she doesn't want to hear from those of us currently living outside our home country.
  2. I agree. I really don't see what was so wrong with his reaction - strange though it was - I can't see the "rude" in it. He was shocked and out of his element. I also never would have served a guest (or my family). I always let them serve themselves. I think I would have done grilled cheese. I can only imagine how yummy your chesse must be!
  3. I'm guessing we both look like beach bums. Sand between our barefoot (me) toes and perpetual tans from hanging laundry and exercising.
  4. Where I live, a chalupa is the housing for an electrical outlet. :)
  5. I bought an Artistic Pursuits book off the board here and it never arrived. She also took her time in mailing the first time (IIRC). I asked for a refund but she sent another (same AP) book in its place. I thought it was kinda weird she had 2 of the same book, but whatever. The first one she sent has never arrived. The second one did, though. And, FYI, I ordered this book in September or October. My mail service neglected to send it to us while we were in the US and it JUST arrived here a week or so ago. It's been a LONG wait!
  6. I ask the kids how they want to help and that is how we come up with "assigned" chores. Also, I will daily ask for specific things (can you get the laundry off the line, can you do those dishes, etc.). Oh, and when things get overwhelming I make a list and give them some notice. This weekend I kept telling them that I needed to make a list of stuff that needed to get done and would like some help doing it. Yesterday am I made the list and when the kids woke (and ate and took care of the puppy), we attacked the list together.
  7. Thanks again - I've finally been able to institute (largely due to a post you made on your blog) a Spanish day, every other day, where I speak Spanish all day to them. We've tried an hour, we've tried 1/2 day and neither work - one kid will get a day of Spanish and another will get 5 minutes. I'm still waiting for SYRWTLS to get here - I'm hoping another week and I'll have it - and we'll see. For now, we've been doing the free Rocket Spanish and Sr. Jordan's You Tube vidoes.
  8. My bastardized verions of week 4 of C25K had me doing 24 min running and 36 minutes brisk walk (14.5 min/mile) today.
  9. I actually didn't. It is really hit and miss and used to be a real issue, especially with books, but this is the new MexPost! :)
  10. I just received my order from Christian Book Discounters - and the shipping was only 10 USD to Mexico. The box was quite heavy and it took a couple weeks (par for the course) but what a STEAL for shipping! Just wanted to share the good news! The most amazing news in this post is the fact that MexPost delivered the package at all! It is just withiin the last 6 months that people have started trusting the mail service. This was my first use of MexPost ever. (4 years and counting)
  11. thank you for this! I try to play Classical while we're doing Art.
  12. Thanks for the thread Colleen. I haven't wanted to jinx my calf muscle by posting (I sure hope I'm not going to do that now :)) so I've been quiet. :) Friday, Wed and Monday I did a bastardized version of week 3 of C25K. I added 25 min of brisk walking and did 15-20 min of jogging each day (split into 3 min jogs). Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday I did 45 min of walking at 15 min/mile. I'll do the same today unless it is calm (it is windy in the winter here). If the wind is calm we'll kayak around the bay next to ours.
  13. I was hanging up laundry tonight and the moon and Venus were hanging out over the jungle just looking so awesome I called the kids out to see. We went upstairs and watched them over the jungle. Just beautiful.
  14. I would suspect a medical condition and insist he visit a doctor. I've got alarm bells ringing here.
  15. Well, there is the blaaag... :) I'm not sure what to say. :) We have an additional outside cooking area that helps in the summer (Feb-December) and outside eating and sitting areas.
  16. Mine are 14 and 12 and do the same. Sometimes up til 4am; sometimes 1am. I have no idea as I'm in bed. :)
  17. Check it out very carefully. I know of two families leaving their Tico life behind to come to Mexico due solely to the drug presence and violence there.
  18. Well, we left the US due primarily to the Bush administration and found we loved Mexico. So, I guess for us, the question has already been answered. :) I'd love to visit/live in Indian, Greece, Turkey, Argentina, Portugual, Spain and Italy. I spent 3 years traveling around (hitchiking) South America in the late 80's and I'd love to see it again. These guys are giving me a nice trip down memory lane. Bumfuzzle.
  19. We live about 4 hours from the Belize border. The country is having a really awful time this past year. The economy is really suffering. But yes, English is spoken.
  20. We're in 300 sq ft. (what is it with the US and their lack of metrics?) Not a typo - we're in a 32ft travel trailer. Family of six and one small Yorkie.
  21. We have read all of the series from the Gutenburg collection (online) and don't really read in any order. It has never been a problem for us. Do read "Ozma from Oz" or something like that first though, so you know why she is the ruler of Oz.
  22. Considering the fact that I have 4 kids with my partner of 16 years but unmarried, I have no problem with the fact that she is unmarried. The big problem I have with her is 1) her mental instability, 2) the fact that she doesn't seem to recognize reality, 3) her lack of support system, 4) the fact that she planned 8 kids without having any way to take care of the six she already has. But basically, my biggest problem with her is her obvious mental instability.
  23. me too! Not sweets so much but I am just so hungry for about 3-4 days during that part of my cycle. I can be happy with 12-1400 calories the other days of the month but at this time of the cycle I need 16-1800. Nice to see I'm not alone.
  24. I did day 2 of C25K plus an additional 30 minutes brisk walking. I took 2 minutes between each 1 minute jog and really held myself back - jogged SUPER slowly but never even had a tightening in my calf. As long as I can can keep from re-injuring that calf I'll take it as slow and babyish as possible - it is so nice to be running (well, jogging) again. 11 minutes jogging and 46 minutes walking 14.5 min/mile. Total was over 4 miles.
  25. They get to decide how sick they are and how much it will affect their studies.
