  1. You have SWB's personal phone number? Silly accusation. There's no such thing. Well, since we're ducks water rolls right off our backs. So.... Well, I make my eldest walk the dog each morning. Is 8:30-9ish early enough or should I get him up earlier? I can insist he wear his backpack with all his books in it. Another idea...I can have him put the cat in the backpack carrier and walk both pets at the same time. Would that cover it? :D Love that shirt Yes, I'm odd, but I embrace it. What really throws people for a loop is if they find out I'm an atheist homeschooler. Talk about being an odd duck!
  2. I am confused as to the difference between these two offerings from EIW. Can anyone shed some light? Does Reading Road Maps also provide a list of discussion questions and sample answers? Or is it just a long book list?
  3. The title makes me want to read it.
  4. Well, because I know what it feels like to freak out about cleaning and wanting things clean. It's a never ending battle every day for me to clean after the pets so that I'm happy in my home. But the same can be said about my kids. ;) It's a trade off because I love dogs and cats. I would never get a bird because the mess they make would not be worth it to me seeing how I am not a fan of birds as pets. Same with a reptilian animal. I despise our fish tank and can't wait for the fish to die so we can get rid of it. Seriously, if you don't love the animal you will resent it. Then you will feel guilty and stressed. It's not a fun place to be. Yes, litter tracks outside the box. I've even find litter in my bed. Litter is my nemesis! I vacuum my sheets between changes. Cause I can NOT stand little pieces of litter in my bed! Or sand. I'm still looking for that magic carpet that will stop litter tracking. My cats (American short hair) blow out their fur like they are trying to grow in a new color coat each day. I could assemble a whole new cat with the fur tumbleweeds I collect throughout my house. Forget wearing black! Cat hair is magically attracted to black clothing, and no amount of tape will get it all off. The answer I guess is to have a black cat but then not wear white. ;) Cat sitting is a good idea. Just make sure it's long enough to give you a good indication of what life with cats is like. More than a week for sure. Here's a small example of what could happen with a cat. I am trying to find a can food that my cat will a) eat and b) tolerate. (So far no luck.) Cat ate food. Food did not agree with cat. Cat projectile vomited all over not one but TWO beds. It was like a scene from the Exorcist. Cat vomit all over two quilts, one pillow, and my ds's beloved sheepskin he liked to sleep with. Ever try to clean vomit from a sheepskin? Yeah. Impossible. It ended up in the trash. Ds was crushed. He now has a faux sheepskin but it's not the same as the one he got as a baby from Santa. But I love my kitties even though they are a pain in my arse.
  5. I've gotten my clothes down to a capsule (mostly) but I can't do the same for shoes. Shoes are my downfall. Love shoes. Always want more. Good thing my budget keeps me from indulging.
  6. I was going to post the sites posted above. Love the puttingmetogether site. I'm actually using her One Suitcase posts to put together my 2 week/one carry on bag capsule for my upcoming business trip. There's another I just found as well. Bloglovin that you can use to get an idea of how a capsule works. After finding DailyConnoisseur I decided that I wanted to implement the limited wardrobe idea. I got rid of a lot of clothes I just never wore, and now getting dressed is so much easier.
  7. Or maybe the dentist has a time turner and so can see all his patients after school hours and during vacation, but still have his/her time off
  8. I'm using that Blue Diamond walnut stuff. It doesn't smell. Still tracks though. Need a solution for that.
  9. Let's see... You could get allergy testing beforehand. My sister is very allergic to all things fur, but not one other person in the family is. Does anyone react if you go to a home with cats? If you are a clean freak about pet mess then no a cat is not for you. Cats shed. You could get one of those furless cats I guess. Cat hair gets everywhere. Worse than dog hair. Then there's the cat litter and cat box. Dealing with cat litter tracked trough my house drives me crazy, but I deal with it because I LIKE cats. If you don't like an animal it will make it that much harder to cope with the mess. Pets are messy. Cats shed fur, shed claws, vomit, sometimes void outside the litter box, sometimes hack up furballs, scratch things, knock things over, spill things, jump on your counters (even if you think they don't), and did I mention the cat hair all over clothes? Some people find it worth it and others don't. I personally would never have an outside only dog because I wanted to reduce pet mess. I am a huge clean freak. I vacuum daily. I clean like a German cleaning woman on a caffeine overdose. So if you won't let your dog in the house then you won't like having a cat in the house. That said, who knows, you may like a cat once you get one. My dh was a rabid anti cat person....until I brought one into the house. He was a closet cat lover and didn't know it. Now, he cuddles with that cat like it was his teddy bear. There are lots of cats that need homes so I'm all for people getting pets. However, if you will only be stressed about the mess (and there will be mess) then perhaps it's better if you don't get one.
  10. Your opinion that she is wrong is subjective. You are not always in the right just because of your opinion. But why address the counter arguments when one finds the solution to be so very very SIMPLE? Clearly the parents not scheduling life the way he does are perhaps not intelligent enough to understand his point. I believe his point is that parents who do not have access to his circumstances nor do things the way he does are irresponsible parents.
  11. We school year round as well, but I still can't believe it's September. 2015 will be over before I blink! Halloween is next month already!!!!
  12. Paula's Choice. No kidding. Found Paula's Choice skincare products and it changed everything.
  13. If I am driving a tiny car then yes. If I'm driving anything larger than say a Mini then no.
  14. I know that story too! Do we win a prize?
  15. and 6 months is a nice time frame for things to settle down and the media to move on.
  16. I love that movie! Had no idea it was a book. Swoon.
  17. Would you rather Khalua in coffee or wine at night?
  18. My kids would love lockers especially if they got put a lock on it. I also have a ds who needs a cubicle. It would help him focus. I already had to move his desk apart from the others and facing a wall. I've tried those cardboard display things as a sort of makeshift cubicle wall but doesn't work well.
  19. My bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen are cleaned daily
  20. I feel the same, however, I am having to buy stuff to store my stuff. I have to get rid of my cardboard boxes I am using. Cause roaches and silverfish. The buggers love paper/cardboard and use it to live in and turn into nesting sites. So, yeah. I lose. I have to buy plastic containers for storage to discourage the nasty things. Either that or spray my home with pesticide. Which is the lesser of two evils? Neither perfect.
  21. And that is a battle I do not want to engage in. There are important things and things to let go. For me color coded art supplies is not even on my radar. :)
  22. Hum, sneaking books. The only books my mom reads are the bodice rippers. I used to sneak those, and I have to say I was confused by a lot of the terminology. None of the books my dad read were off limits so I didn't have to sneak them to read them. I remember reading The Abyss and loving it. I also read another sci-fi that I loved but I can't remember the title. Urgh. I'd love to re-read it.
  23. If I floss daily then what is a Waterpik for? Isn't just supposed to be a kind of floss replacer?
