    The one I made had

    • iceberg lettuce
    • cheese
    • hard boiled eggs
    • peas
    • tomatoes
    • green onions
    • bacon and dressing

but I am open to new ideas! I told him I would make one tomorrow as I didn’t have all the stuff

I just thought it was weird since the way he said it sounded like I made it all the time 😆

That’s the one! I’ll come over!

I also like the layered dip!

  2. Going back to the privacy thing, wouldn’t that be a huge violation if the whole department and more were told?
On a smaller scale, at my office I was the bad guy who asked not to celebrate birthdays. Again, one person makes another a cake and wants to collect from everybody for a gift because they’ve got it soooo rough right now. Then the next person a week later gets no acknowledgment….

  3. My kids have always preferred leftovers. I bought the thermoses that keep things warm for 18 hours (which actually means still warm at lunch). I put hot water in the thermos while the food gets up to boiling hot in the microwave. Then I use a canning funnel to avoid messes, and voila! I also have yogurt cups that first put frozen fruit, Greek yogurt, and a splash of maple syrup, and the lid holds granola separately.

  4. Looking forward to the end of my (our) first month! It is definitely a shift in thinking, but so far so good. I am so very happy that DH decided a long time ago he’d rather not be able to easily access our chequing account balance. Him seeing the balance and deciding it was up for free spending is why I started pre paying bills, etc. And now that I’ve got the credit card thing figured out…. Very excited for the end of the month!

Now I’m curious.  If you have someone blocked and they start a thread do you see it?   I have no one blocked, I’m just curious about the inner workings of the forum now.

You see that they started one, and the title,  but you still have to click to see the content.

  6. How long is she walking at a time, and how cold?

The weight of thinsulate will help you gauge the warmth. And they usually have a temperature rating based on that.

Kombi, Head, North Face come to mind as good brands.

Inflation has made me cut out my seltzer drinks, they are for special occasions only now.  I’d like a soda stream but I’m not sure it would be worth it.

We love our soda stream! We keep two bottles of sparkling water rotating in the fridge. I use it to make my own adult sparkling vodka beverages. We use the syrups and squirt flavourings, but have so much more control.

Although you don’t need to move the money to a Costco category.  If what you buy at Costco is groceries you can just leave it in the grocery category and when the category has a large balance you know you can do your Costco shop.  It gives you the same info that you were getting by letting the balance build on the credit card, but the money can stay in your debit account rather than pre-paying the card and it doesn’t matter which method of payment you use.

Thanks! And that’s sort of the heart of the issue….

I thought if I made a separate Costco category, and moved what I don’t spend at the actual grocery store on weekly menu planning, DH could see how much is available/leftover to spend there. Then, we (he) could also see how much we spend there. We’ve been discussing the mindless throwing of things in the cart habit.

  9. So here’s my question (First time, first month with YNAB)…

My budgeting method for food and groceries has been to automatically put the same amount from every paycheque onto the credit card that I use for those purchases. Has worked well for years, although not ideal. Now that DH has started taking over some of these purchases, and has never bothered to activate his card, more things end up coming out of our debit account and I’m left short there and with a surplus on the credit card, which all drives me a little batty.

My budgeting plan is that the surplus builds on the card, then I know how much we can spend on a large Costco shop, for example.

If I’m understanding YNAB correctly, I’ve got my debit account and credit card account. I’ve got fully-funded categories for groceries, gas, eating out, Costco, and the associated credit card payment. So now for this month, when I grocery shop, it will reduce the surplus on the credit card account when that transaction happens, and I will categorize that transaction as groceries.

Then next paycheque, instead of automatically making that pre-payment on my credit card, I will continue to fund the categories with paycheque money. Then when I use the credit card for groceries, it will still show as a transaction with grocery category, but the associated credit card payment category will go negative, showing me the actual amount to pay from the next pay cheque. This will leave the real money in the debit account. Then if I don’t use all the grocery budget in that pay period, I could move it to the Costco category, and it will sit in the debit account instead of letting the credit card company hold it. And if DH buys gas with the debit card, it doesn’t matter.

    Yes?

I talk to the 18 yr old.

    (snip)

My DS, who is now 21, has had many friends who are younger than him, and for a time several were under 18. He had I had many discussions about  how he needed to be careful because of potential legal implications for him. This included discussions about providing alcohol or weed (which is legal 21+ here), driving while intoxicated especially with a minor in the car, crossing state lines with a minor, and intimate activity with a minor. I have always told him that his friends are welcome in our home at any time, but that no illegal activity is allowed.

    This.

The drinking/pot age here is 19. It’s important to me that DS18.94 knows the laws around buying alcohol and what the big picture is if he shares that with a friend who is not yet 19. And if that friend then drives intoxicated. And kills someone or themselves.

  11. I’ve always kept track of cheques, but that is all. I wrote two this fall, and the last one before that was 2019. I just looked at the register, and it starts in 2003. So it’s been at least before that that I’ve made any attempt to balance things. I’m okay, our finances are okay….. let it go if you can….
