  1. Yes, we left a church after being members for a long time (we're not old enough to be anywhere for 20 years at this point).  Any social organism, including a faith community, can become ill and rehabilitating/making a church a better place is very difficult if people are not willing to step forward and do the work.  It's probably a lot of work even if people are willing to step forward.

My take is that you should address it with the senior pastor the right way.  If he responds correctly, great.  If not, move on and let it go. Don't think about it, don't discuss it, don't wonder if it's still going on, don't fret and worry about other perfectly capable adults who choose to stay, don't end friendships with people who choose to stay.  Just move on and enjoy the new place God leads you to.

    This.

  2. I've just chased kids outside. â˜ºï¸ The Dr called and said I am in the clear and I think I'm going to go Internet free for a little while. So just a heads up for any worriers that the two things are not related.

As far as hip issues go, I have a muscle that "flips" out of place and wow does that hurt.

  3.

No, I won't challenge you to write a sonnet, however if you have a mind too, please share.

Whew!  I was worried for a moment there.

I'm still reading Searoad and have a ton of overdue stuff to return to the library.  I'm swamped with work that needs to get done ASAP and so it looks like, for the next two months, I won't be doing much reading.

On the upside, the green is taking over and it's not just a world of messy stirred up mud outside.  Happy spring everyone!

  4. Angola or Regional?

Regional. It's always a Regional but I'm acting more like an Angola player the older I get- I'm getting slower and lower to the ground all the time.

The collapsing is bad Soror. It's like I'm having trouble rotating my hips or something. It'll work its way out eventually.

  5. Free form blue-sy capoiera to songs like this this morning :001_cool:

Did backbends and handstands as planned.  I'm collapsing walking my legs around from a bridge which is new.  Someone remind me next week to start learning my new sequencias as I've stalled for a month now.

  6. Well, I don't know why I can't seem to just cut my losses and back slowly away from Lewis, but I'm persisting with That Hideous Strength and it's taken some . . . interesting? twists.  I don't know if anybody is still reading this, so I'm trying to avoid spoilers, but I grew up in a cult, and I know what cult leaders look like, and Ransom? Dude? You're there.  Complete with very odd advice to couples.  (The eroticism of obedience?  Wait, did I just stumble into 50 Shades of Grey?)     ;)  :D

I've been thinking about sociopaths and how a church can turn cultish.  If anyone has books to recommend on this, I would be interested.

  7. I thought this was interesting http://www.strongfirst.com/preparing-a-mma-fighter/

Especially in light of what he said about keeping training specific to your needs/goals. I struggle with this because I like to go on long slow runs to relax and I am constantly tempted to train for marathons. -That may sound stupid, but there is something so sexy sounding about training for a marathon that, for instance, fartleks completely lacks. Training for a marathon would probably be the most counterproductive thing I could do for my martial arts given my propensity for injuries...

I guess my goal/need is to just have fun so martial arts combined with long distance training is OK for me. Keeping loose enough to not become injured is going to be the issue as mileage increases.

  8. Gah!  I can't keep up with you all.

I'm still reading Searoad and am waiting for Mere Christianity to come in.  We are spring cleaning, painting walls and I'm a little under the weather.

I'm going to bed now so here's a bedtime haiku  ;)

  9. Back home. Exhausted. That was a very long drive.

So I spent 16 hours each way sitting in a car and several days of tent camping (so sleeping on ground) and my muscles are angry.

What shall I do to ease my stiff muscles back into gear?

Yoga?  Swimming?  Or maybe just practice sleeping in a bed again...........????

Yesterday my dh and I went on a 13 mile hike.  It took us over 8hrs.  There were amazing views, and the weather was perfect.  My knee started to bother me at the end, but today I feel fine (as a side note, even though I know they are bad for you in the long term, I wish I could be one these steroids forever!  They are doing nothing for my ears, which is why I'm on them, but I love the energy I have and how fast I'm recovering. :p  I'll be sad when I stop taking them in a couple of days).

Today my dh and I took our 3 boys on a 4 mile hike.  It was another beautiful day, and we had fun.

Tomorrow I supposed to run, but I may take a yoga day.

A 13 mile hike sounds lovely.  I'm envious.

  10. I've been sick so I didn't do anything yesterday.  Today, I ran on the treadmill and was shocked at my pace  Usually, I have a decent slope on that thing and hang on for dear life for a 12 minute mile.  Because of the illness, I decided to nix the slope and just try to run on it and did four 9 minute miles.  Not amazing but I had no idea I had progressed beyond the sloth phase.

Editing to add:  Maybe I figured the time wrong or our ancient and free treadmill measured something wrong.  IDK-  I really can't believe I've progressed beyond sloth.

  12.

Uff Da have you done a marathon before? My sister runs them (or ran, now she has toddlers) and loves it. She was always trying to get my dh to run one with her because she says he is a great runner.  But, dh has NO interest, lol.

I've run only two marathons before.  The first one I took seriously, trained well and injured my knees.  The second one I wasn't able to train properly for so I partied the whole way through, talked to a ton of people, sampled all the food, didn't worry about how much walking I did and I got a better time.  Go figure.

Dh has run one marathon before so we will see how this year goes and maybe try together next year.  I think city marathons are fun to both run and cheer for.  The one "scenic" marathon I did was boring after awhile.

I hope to get a workout in later today. I have to run dd to the doctor to get some abdominal pain checked out. Kinda concerned.

    Hope your daughter is OK.

  13. It seems this week is just off for a lot of us.  I hope everyone recovers well and can get back into the swing of things.

Today is a gentle stretching day for me and some kicking.  No bending over backwards for a couple more days I think.

I found out yesterday that Hal Higdon has some training schedules (including a marathon schedule) that are three days of running with three days of cross training.  For me, this is nice as it means I wouldn't need to drop capoeira to train for a race. Here's the link if any of you runners are interested:

  14. I'm reading Le Guin's  "Searoad: The Chronicles of Klatsand" and realizing I forgot to order Mere Christianity.

"In one of her most deeply felt works of fiction, Le Guin explores the dreams and sorrows of the inhabitants of Klatsand, Oregon, a beach town where ordinary people bring their dreams and sorrows for a weekend or the rest of their lives, and sometimes learn to read what the sea writes on the sand. Searoad is the story of a particular place that could be any place, and of a people so distinctly drawn they could be any of us."

This is one of my favorite short story collections to curl up with.  Here's the opening that sets the scene for the stories:

    Foam Women,

    Rain Women

The foam women are billowy, rolling, tumbling, white and dirty white and yellowish and dun, scudding, heaving, flying, broken.  They lie at the longest reach of the waves, rounded and curded, shaking and trembling, shivering hips and quivering buttocks, torn by the stiff, piercing wind, dispersed to nothing, gone.  The long wave breaks again and they lie white and dirty white, yellowish and dun, billowing, trembling under the wind, flying, gone, till the long wave breaks again.

The rain women are very tall, their heads are in the clouds.  Their gait is the pace of the storm-wind, swift and stately.  They are tall presences of water and light walking the long sands against the darkness of the forest.  They move northward, inland, upward to the hills.  They enter the clefts of the hills unresisting, unresisted, light into darkness, mist into forest, rain into earth.
