Retired home schoolers-what to do with the STUFF?
MountainViewHS replied to Catherine's topic in The Chat Board
It's been forever since I've been on the boards and I was logging in today to ask this exact question! Our DS will be finished this summer and we have so many books shelves full. -
Thanks, that's really helpful. I haven't thought of buying the GC and then getting double points :-) I'll have to look into TopCashBack.

I've been reading through the last couple of threads and would love to join :-) I've started using eBates and swag bucks. I have a question for those of you who use swag bucks, how do you maximize the points earned? any good tips and tricks?

We love ours. Use it 3-4 x week. So far we have completed 4 courses this way. -
If you have a Disabled placard....have you ever been asked for ID?
MountainViewHS replied to Tap's topic in The Chat Board
We put these on the back of the placard and placed ID copies inside. https://www.mochithings.com/products/12459 -
We love these: https://www.amazon.com/Stabilo-EASYOriginal-Ergonomic-Handed-Original/dp/B00T7ULQ2U/ref=pd_sim_229_13?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00T7ULQ2U&pd_rd_r=Y2BH3K5G8TQ1B1NE9Q1T&pd_rd_w=yee3t&pd_rd_wg=vemOb&psc=1&refRID=Y2BH3K5G8TQ1B1NE9Q1T They also have pencil versions: https://www.amazon.com/Sharpener-Ergonomic-Mechanical-Left-Handed-Rollerball/dp/B00T7UM1KQ/ref=pd_bxgy_229_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00T7UM1KQ&pd_rd_r=6PZN2V3420P8A4TH5S1X&pd_rd_w=kn3xZ&pd_rd_wg=pzKZt&psc=1&refRID=6PZN2V3420P8A4TH5S1X When our ds was first learning, we used a small dry erase board because the friction of pen on paper was too difficult. The dry erase pens glide across so smoothly making it much easier.

Would you be willing to print your own? I have printables for all the items/sections you listed. I use mine digitally on my iPad but you could print them and then spiral bind them.

Building a second floor kitchenette: use cabinets or dresser?
MountainViewHS replied to elegantlion's topic in The Chat Board
Would something along these lines work? That way you could have a "real" counter top instead of a dresser top. https://www.wayfair.com/August-Grove®-Adelle-a-Cart-Kitchen-Island-with-Stainless-Steel-Top-ATGR8754.html It also comes with a granite top instead of SS. -
Anyone use Beautiful Feet for Middle School??
MountainViewHS replied to Davina's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We've used Classical Music, Horses, and Early American History. We enjoyed the book selections and followed the schedule, but used the questions for oral discussions instead of writing each one down. Both Classical Music & American History would be great for middle school. -

weighted blanket question
MountainViewHS replied to caedmyn's topic in The Learning Challenges Board
We notice a lot of differ nice in day time behavior. Good sleep = better attitude the next day for ds. We've been using one for almost 3 yrs now! -
Earrings, coffee mugs, and photographic prints :-)

I haven't used the online portion of their products, not because of a philosophical issue with online public ed, but just because it didn't work for our family. We love their history textbooks here. I have heard the math is boring from others. I would second the recommendation to check with the teachers/facilitators to be sure that your kiddos will get the "college prep" part. Because for us, it was mostly recommended as standard high school level, not prep level.

Great Courses- Teaching Company
MountainViewHS replied to Donna's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
We're using the Photo course as a 1/2 credit, while doing each lesson's assignment & reviewing the photos taken & making a portfolio book of the images. So I think it's great as a spine, as mentioned above, but just watching the lectures wouldn't add up to enough hours. -
We love our blankets. Can't sleep without them. We've been using weighted blankets and lappads for years. I bought both online from etsy. I'm not sure if it's ok to post a direct link to the selle we used or not? They're high quality and they were very accommodating to making a few adjustments we needed.
