  1. Looking at this site, what do I need? http://www.pearsonschool.com/index.cfm?locator=PSZu6e&PMDBSOLUTIONID=6724&PMDBSITEID=2781&PMDBCATEGORYID=806&PMDBSUBSOLUTIONID=&PMDBSUBJECTAREAID=&PMDBSUBCATEGORYID=933&PMDbProgramID=21022 I got the student book on ebay. Looks like it has odd answers and the tests in the book. I'm fairly confident teaching this without a teachers manual or anything. But, I do want the answers to the tests. Where are those? TM? Solutions manual? What do you all use when you teach this?
  2. We used BJU Earth Science last year with the DVDs. I"ve heard great things about it and we did love using it. We switched to Apologia because that's what our co-op uses. Ultimately, science with other people was more important than which curriculum.
  3. We have set times, but adjust it as needed. I used to go with the wind, when they were younger. And we've tried just letting them finish. But, for mine, at least, they will take up as much time as they are given. If I have a light day, in hopes of doing something else, they will still take just as long to do it. They have a great capacity for dawdling ;) So, we have a schedule and structure, but are flexible when warranted.
  4. He isn't really a patient teacher. ;) Ideally, that would be a wonderful idea. Wouldn't work well here, though. Just got Analytical Grammar in mail. Excited to start it. Looks much more doable
  5. Just listened to the burn our recording from Cincinnati. Awesome! The stuff she said about never meeting our ideals for our important work was brilliant and had me in tears.
  6. We love the Apologia elementary science books. Just bought the Chemistry and Physics book to start soon.
  7. Yeah, she doesn't have anything for grammar for the middle grades, yet. I checked. ;)
  8. I thought the bust thing was on Punky Brewster. No? More of an urban legend, my mom's friend, a fellow girl scout leader, had a skiing accident. Had to go to the bathroom at the top of the hill and ended up sliding down with her pants around her ankles. Met a guy in the ER who broke his arm watching her slide down. I told that story for years, thinking it was true. Wasn't until I discovered snopes that I realized it was an urban legend. And then, I still thought it must've originated with my mom's "friend" until I saw that it dated back earlier than my childhood. Lying mom. She also made up the little added words to Rudolf the Red Nose Raindeer. :sneaky2:
  9. Thanks for all the responses. We did stick with R&S for ds. He understood what I was reading to him, even when I needed to reread it slowly. lol I'm fine until the 7th grade book! That one makes me cry. ;) I think dd would be fine (maybe) if I could explain it to her, instead of reading it together. But I don't understand it enough to do that. If I studied it the night before, it'd probably work. But time is limited! I'd like to use it in other ways! Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions! I've been looking over them. I think we're going to stick with something that diagrams. She likes that and being a kinesetic learner, it works for her. I'm looking at Analytical Grammar right now. I hate to spend $100 on it when we have R&S 2-8 and thus never really should have to spend $ on grammar. But, if it's not working, it's not working.
  10. What's a good grammar for mom who doesn't do grammar? I always did well in English class, but I honestly don't remember this stuff. We use R&S and it's been fine for the younger grades. But, I find MY eyes glazing over when reading the lesson to my 7th grader. When ds did it two years ago, it was the same. But we got through it. There were often times when I read something to him and he understood it, but I didn't lol. (I could go back over it and figure it out, but it really made me think) Now, we're starting to do it with dd and I can tell that it's going to be a struggle. Is there anything that presents the material a little easier to understand? Or...what? I don't know if it's just that we need to get through the material or if the curriculum really isn't working for us. What could I look at instead?
  11. Thank you. She's using R&S, that's why I was asking. I'm not sure what of theirs would qualify as "prealgebra" they don't really call it that. It'll be a year or two, definitely.
  12. This sounds like it would be a good fit for my dd in a few years. Are there any Algebra pre-tests anywhere to figure out if they're ready to take Algebra or not?
  13. So, a few questions for 8. Where are you planning on going with this? How many books? Where will this book leave a kid? Ready for middle school? high school? What's the next step? (Forgive me if these questions have been answered. I've read this thread over the past few days as I thought about it. Trying to accomplish my goal of planning this week, while also dealing with unexpected crisis on the homefront.)
  14. What's ELTL? (geesh, spend a year away and it's like you're a newbie again! So many acronyms I don't know!)
  15. What program is WR? I see it mentioned here a few times. Researching writing curriculum. Yours looks good, 8 :)
  16. Have her retake it. My score went up 6 pts when I took it the second time.
  17. Bear Snores On is my favorite picture book ever.
  18. That's very helpful. Thanks. Where do I find the Alcumus pre-algebra checklist?
  19. I want to make sure my kiddo is ready to start Algebra in the fall. We'll do Jacob's Algebra. What's a good book to run through just to make sure we've covered everything? (We've hopped around a lot) I got Lial's Basic College Math, but now I see that they also have a pre_Algebra. Should I have gotten that instead? We also have AOPS Pre-Algebra, but it seems a bit daunting to try and run through that in the next month and a half. Suggestions?
  20. Does anyone remember from last year how registration works? I believe You needed an id or the email, yes? I registered, but am now unable to go at the last minute. Wondering if I can pass this on to someone else, or if they'd have to prove they were me.
  21. Go to the grocery store, pick up a pkg of grapes and strawberries, in whatever form them come in this time of year, organic or not, and next year, don't offer, just bring whatever you want or show up empty-handed.
  22. We have a second floor space that was originally going to be for a school room. Adn we don't have any other space for a school room. But, yeah, it didn't really work out. It was a pain to use it, since it was so out of the way from the main living space. Now, we have a bookcase in the living room for all our currently used books. and all the off-year things are housed upstairs in our unused schoolroom.
  23. More than weekly, but not cause I really like clean sheets (though I do ;) ) They get changed on an as needed basis and seem to need it quite often!
