  1. I am looking for a pair of leggings I can live in. Yeah, those kind that you wear the minute you take work clothes off. The pair I have now is wearing thin, worked great for two years but I have no clue where they came from. I don't need very thick ones but don't want to get some that are gong to be see-through within a few months. What is your go-to place?
  2. Yes. She and her husband Jim Eliot were missionaries and he was killed by tribe members. The movie is "The End of the Spear."
  3. My mother would never say a thing about money other than downplay what she could afford but then, miraculously, when something happened she had the money, cash - and not credit. I don't know why she could not bring herself to saying "I am saving it." My grandmother lived through WWII and left behind a house and most items in it when they had to flee. She saved as much money as she could but managed to appear more generous than my mother. Every New Year's Eve, my grandmother would walk around to various vendors (coal & wood & oil delivery and maintenance items that would normally get billed) and pay all her bills so she would never "go into the new year with debt." As a kid when I stayed with my grandmother, I remember that the man who delivered the coal had to scramble into his chaotic office and shuffle through stacks of paper to find my Grandmother's bill so she could pay it before the new year arrived. I did budgeting with ds when we were doing schooling and he seems to have self-educated on some things.
  4. Love their philosophy. Have a few well0loved pieces rather than a bunch of stuff you never wear! And they are Danish...:)
  5. I pondered this just the other day. I was never a big fan of flu shots (can explain this later if anyone cares) but our agency said in the fall of 2019 that we have a "choice" of not getting the flu shot but will have to wear a mask while on company time and property. HAHA. I got the shot because it sounded very impractical with the way we handled clients BACK THEN to wear a mask. One supervisor even said: "I would wonder what was wrong with a person if they wore a mask." HA again! We have been wearing masks now anyway - flu shot or not - since March. Do I need another flu shot or will I just continue wear the mask which I have to wear anyway? I could upgrade to a N mask. For those wearing masks and keeping to themselves flu rates should decrease. If we assume there will be no traditional Christmas parties, etc, that might help too.
  6. Our organization of the chest freezer: Dh grocery shops and dumps stuff in there - sometimes even still in the grocery bag!!! I dive in there and make sure my feet are hanging out so should the lid fall down I will not be deep frozen but can hopefully wiggle out again. I fling about wildly while I am down there and we eat for dinner whatever I come up with (up from the depth of the freezer). Works for us.
  7. Can you enlighten me as well? Sounds something nasty happened and we need to pay attention.
  8. This! Hands down. There are different styles for the Starfish pants which makes it possible to wear them to the office with a nice top.
  9. This...and what you first said in the OP. I regularly bemoan the fact on his board that we seem to have lost the ability to respect opposing viewpoints and the ability to civilly discuss without a thread going south and getting locked or someone even getting banned. These two were a good example of an era when people still had basic respect for another human, regardless of political leanings and opinions. They also were not of the "internet ad hominem attack" generation because, I am willing to bet, they still had learned how to debate the issue and not aim at humiliating another person.
  10. I know there are vast differences from state to state but we went by a recommendation of a friend. Our agent was no exclusive buyer's agent but explained to us that he would recuse himself if we chose to buy a property he represented as a seller's agent. He said someone else in his office would be working with us. None of this came to pass as we bought a place that was listed by a different realty and therefore there was no conflict of interest. At a minimum, I would expect this potential scenario to be addressed in a similar fashion.
  11. Just thought about what Patty Joanna mentioned. If we lost the benefits of Prop13 in CA, I may be tempted to look elsewhere.
  12. Wow, this is so different from my corner of the same country. (Are you in the US?) There were mornings when I wished I could step up to the side of the street (no curb) and hail a cab. If I tried that around here, the farmer next door on the tractor would probably lift his hand and wave back...but I don't think he would give me a ride.
  13. No, not at all. I would not think of letting a temporary event dictate where I live. That would seem short-sighted to me. There are just so many other factors playing into this decision. And then there are roots... California has been home for 30+ years. Sounds funny even as I type it. I suppose a major economical upheaval could uproot us but we weathered the last recession right here and that was no walk in the park. We live just in the right combo of rural but near city to get some of those benefits. I would wish for a shorter commute but I know I cannot have it all.
  14. Reading: Portrait of a Spy by Silva. I read the series as much in order as Overdrive would allow with making books available. This is one is a later book but the same players so not a problem. Operator by Gretchen Berg is still in the pipeline as well and I am trying to read this one fast but there is unfortunately only so much time for me. Audio: The Confessor also by Silva.
  15. Heard the title before. Can you give a quick overview. All romance? All crime? Something in between? Scifi? Subtitles or in English? Dh doesn't speak Finnish and doesn't like to read subtitles to follow a movie.
  16. For you, for your family? What are the positive things that are happening in spite or because of restrictions? What goals have you reached? How will you remember this year? Or rather not remember it at all? (I had hoped we had new emojis with the facelift, unfortunately, not).
  17. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves to let things roll off our backs like water off a duck. She was very rude. Practice saying in French: "I am so sorry to have offended you. I will ask someone who is willing to work with me / grant me some grace." Or a variation thereof. I remember spending summers in Italy as a kid and people love to teach kids stuff - some people get a kick out of teaching words not necessary to conduct polite conversation...but nevertheless it seems nobody cared when I made a mistake or maybe that's because the Italians are more laid back about these things. With the woman who was rude to you, I would think to myself "at least I may know more French than she does English." I was in Paris as a young adult and used my hands and a smile a lot which seemed to grant me forgiveness. I always think people should appreciate a foreigner making the effort to communicate in the local language rather than taking the stance that everyone should speak their language, especially if their language is English. Despite the lingua franca designation, not everyone is fluent or comfortable with it either.
  18. Last purchase and move fulfilled a lot of "dream" criteria. Best of all, can be paid off within reasonable amount of time hopefully. But for a little vacay home: Near Ocean with view of white water or cliffs and shipping channels. (I am fascinated by fishing boats). Design: Simple but like covered porch and wood floors. Perhaps dormers with a small upstairs area. Woodstove or fireplace a must. Yard / garden need not be as big as where we are living now as we are getting older but enough room for some veggies and a little lawn.
  19. Check out the "Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals" Common Prayers - Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals
  20. I missed any announcement if there were any about the new interface.
  21. Boil water, pour over herbs into a bowl. Through towel over your head in breathe in the steam. Hang on! Yesterday, I saw two stars at 9pm. Haven't seen a think for weeks prior due to the thick smoke layer.
  22. La Croix - just about any flavor OR lemon squeezed into my Berkey water. As usual I am thinking of food items...
  23. Me too. Except outdoor plants...and now I am concerned with all the smoke we are having from the fires around us. I got a "Little John" and a "Big John" bottlebrush shrubs. Love their look and the big bonus is they attract hummingbirds. Little John is a dwarf variety while Big John is regular and can get huge if not pruned back.
  24. Book a weekend (or longer) trip somewhere. Surprise your dh and tell your ds you guys will be gone for a couple of days on a special vacation . This way you get couple time and he does not need to feel kicked out.
