  1. Slightly jealous of the mom who will be all done in a few weeks. Here...one almost done....six more to go! And I do have sixteen year old that sleeps while I drive too! 😛
  2. Yes I should have clarified. It would be an in depth, all day visit. She would sit in on classes, visit with a prof and head of honors program. We can't do an overnight at this point.
  3. Daughter is really excited about one of her acceptances. I think our whole family thinks it would be a great fit. There's another college that is offering considerably more in scholarships, but she is thinking it might not be the best fit for her. In fact she's not super excited about a visit. (She visited a long time ago.) What say the hive about visiting a college just to rule it out or see if it's different/better than you expected?
  4. There's an old thread about this college that some thought was by a troll and it rabbit trailed into other issues. Does anyone have any current input on this college? Also a previous poster said some families had their kids come home early from Hillsdale and wouldn't say why. I would imagine due to stress or other factors, this could happen with any college. But I'd love some info from recent or current experience with Hillsdale as my oldest is quite excited about it. Thank you!!
  5. It does not have to be a specific provider. And there's no test for placement after it's over. Later there's a placement test to see which level of calculus he would be in.
  6. His summer break is just over 12 weeks too. So a good chunk of time is there to work with. I hesitate to have him do it concurrently though, bc he has Chemistry, Alg II and a full load all around.
  7. It's a high school STEM academy and they are expecting it to be a high school geometry class.
  8. Thank you Arcadia. Would that be at a community college?
  9. My son needs to begin and complete Geometry as a summer course. Is this even doable without major stress? We have Teaching Textbooks, which is 110 lessons. I haven't been able to figure out yet how many lessons the Khan Academy or the Professor RobBob program are or how long these would take. He's finishing Alegebra 2 now at a p.s., so I'm not wanting him to double up with Geometry during the current semester. The reason for all of this is...we switched the order of Geometry and Alg. 2 in case he wanted to take the SAT earlier. Now he's interested in a p.s. STEM program that requires Geometry's completion before enrolling. Many thanks!!!
  10. What is the best way of wording a request for a college to consider giving more merit/scholarship aid for a student? We have one college which has awarded twice as much, but the one that awarded less may be her first choice. Thank you!!!! We want to sound confidant, not tacky.
  11. Night elf, so how do you get the Fly lady plan without the emails?
  12. Thank you for asking this question! I have been trying fly lady a second time around and I can't get past the email clutter yet again. I'm just deleting without reading most of them, so I've added more busy work without actually getting more done! Lol! I need something different. I'm going to look more at the Motivated Moms printable. I see it's a simple daily list. This is appealing. I'm just hoping it's not random and that the house will start coming together by following this.
  13. Dd has been accepted to Hillsdale also. It's coming with nice merit scholarships. She's pretty happy about this one!
  14. Dd has been accepted to Calvin College with a generous merit scholarship. There might be more scholarships coming and Honors program.
  15. J is fine with it. Wouldn't be bothered in the least. Not sure how this could be viewed as something negative to dig up years later!
  16. Any reason not to? J got her first acceptance and we are thrilled. There will be more coming and she is not decided yet. I wouldn't want to answer lots of questions on FB about it. We are not friends on FB with any college administrators, but just a couple students there. So this isn't the type of post where parents say "Ds got in AND accepted" yet.
  17. It stands for Amateur Athletic Union. It's like travel ball or club ball for certain sports. It can greatly increase skill level, so in addition to the kid's regular school sport season, they are developing skills and playing in tournaments in the off-season. Often they get way better than the kids on the school team. And the travel teams are starting at pretty young grades now.
  18. One of our kids has tried out and made a competitive AAU team at the middle school level. S is having second thoughts and now might not want to be on the team. We're in agreement that while S could have a great season with this team, it's not the best fit right now. Nothing has started with practices or anything, but we need to say no thank you before things get rolling. Is this a big deal to decline joining the team or does this happen fairly often in AAU and travel leagues? How do we do this without hurting feelings etc.? Xposted on chat

  20. I know you should have a reach school and a safety school. But for J, there's one school that's a perfect fit and there is no interest in any other school. Not saying it's perfect. We know there's no perfect school. But it's a great fit for J. It's not an Ivy League, but a nationally well ranked liberal arts college. Scores and grades are high and I think J's transcripts and extras look close to excellent. Not being cocky, I realize J might not get in--(but I think J will), but if the heart isn't into any another place, at all... Maybe we should just stick with this one and reevaluate J's plans if it's a no. What say the Hive? Too crazy and risky?
  21. We have a homeschool profile done, but I thought about waiting before submitting. Ds has outside dual enrolled and also some p.s. transcripts. High test scores and gpa. So I thought maybe wait and see if they ask for one. Did you submit one at the outset?
