  1. I don't think the local h.s. offers it then, but we could probably find another site and do it then.
  2. My son is a junior in h.s. and is in a p.s. STEM academy in addition to his homeschool classes. The SAT is next week and he has done zero prep for it bc he's been trying to improve his grades in Honors Physics and other honors courses at the academy. I'm really considering letting him skip it this junior year and let him study and take it once or twice if needed next year. I think he'll do really well if he can prep for it, but right now he's pretty stressed to add something that can affect college admissions. What do you think about waiting until his senior year? Thank you!
  3. Keep an eye on how she's doing with melatonin. It can trigger depression in some people. Hopefully ymmv!!
  4. Thanks everybody. The right thing happened at the meeting after all. Justice prevailed. #Hoosiers Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  5. Here is the hypothetical. Five members of a board meeting will be meeting soon. 4 are in favor of a motion to vote in a particular candidate for a position. One is vehemently opposed. In a past vote, one made a motion to approve a candidate and no one would second it despite 4 of the 5 being in favor of the motion and that person, for small-town political reasons. Then the one person against the candidate made a motion for another candidate. And it was seconded. That candidate is now out of the running because of personal problems. There is still a third candidate that is possible. This could happen again. When someone makes a motion for that first candidate that four out of five people are in favor of, don't they have to decide something on that motion, rather than ignore it and bring a different motion? Thsnk you! Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  6. I can really identify with what Meadowlark is saying. We are doing a combo of ps and homeschooling for a couple of our kids so they can play varsity sports. It makes me yearn for the cuddly times on the sofa reading great books together, but I also need to remember these kids are maturing and have a different set of needs now. Sports is huge for us and we can't get the level of competition they need in the homeschooling world. At the same time, it's very difficult, bc we are doing both types of schooling at the same time. We need to march to the beat of the ps time schedules and have lost so much freedom. And we also need to get the home class work done at the same time
  7. TransientChris, yes they are not. Did someone say they were? Think most folks know that.
  8. Yes and now in crisis mode, you've gotta do what you have to do. Not sure about the Valium, but someone mentioned here or on another thread, that if it is PANS, individuals can be sensitized to SSRIs and they can cause an even more negative reaction. So ideally with those, you'd want to start with the lowest dose possible and increase in small increments if they even help at all. If it's PANS and when the crisis period calms down in the future, there are supplements like NAC, inositol and others to assist if she is still dealing with OCD, but the flare ups have subsided. Hoping for smooth days ahead for her and your family. â¤ï¸
  9. Any updates? Hoping things are calming down for you all. [emoji173] Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  10. My heart goes out to you. This really sounds like it could be PANS and while there are some specialists, there are many docs poking in the dark or in downright denial on this. It is more than strep titers. It could be related to a bacterial infection such as mycoplasma. Has she had any vaccines recently? There could be an autoimmune encephalitic response to that. Also lymes and thyroid should be looked at. But that description of sudden onset and family under siege is very common in PANS. Praying you get answers and the right doctors and healing for your daughter.
  11. Thanks! I asked for a photo of what's under the matress, so I hope to find out soon. We definitely need more than a foam topper though, because that just makes the lack of support in the middle more gushy LOL! Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  12. No, I think this is pretty much how they all are. Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  13. Thanks. I was thinking wood or even a door. Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  14. What is the best way to remedy a mattress that sags down in the middle in the college dorm? I see people buying toppers and foam cushions for the top, but that doesn't seem that it would remedy the sagging lack of support in the middle. Thank you! Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
  15. Do you remember which one he takes from nootropics? If I remember right, this is a brand with many products and we purchased from them for one of our kids.
  16. I think I'm having some focus and attention issues that I didn't have when I was younger. I don't have a formal diagnosis and don't want to get on medication, but would love to hear what natural supplements, foods and strategies help with focus and attention issues. I also think the digital component of daily life certainly makes things worse for me, but like most people, I need to get things done this way on a daily basis. Also things to avoid that might be helpful would be most appreciated!
  17. What is actually in Plexus and tell me if it's good or all just marketing hype. Is it an MLM? I'm really starting to think I have attention issues and I don't know if that would even adress that. Thank you!
  18. Ok thank you! And he is hitting these areas, but not as thoroughly as he did with the foundations. I'll discuss this with him ASAP as he has one month to finish the course.
  19. My son thinks he is mostly done with the Kahn Academy high school level geometry. I looked at his progress and he has finished 100% of the foundations level with solid A level work. There is a lot to the foundations level. Then he has done portions only of the remaining levels with good marks. And there are quite a few of these unfinished levels. He says the foundations is the main part of high school geometry and the remaining levels are beyond the basic high school level. I'm not sure where he is getting this impression and he is usually an honest young man so I hesitate to label it a snow job. Can you look at the link and the sequence and tell me what you think? He only needs basic high school geometry at this point. Thank you. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/geometry
  20. What are your thoughts on purchasing a used vehicle that has been used by a smoker if you are a non-smoker? We found a good car for our student heading to college. The smell isn't strong at all, but we are unsure if there are any adverse health risks of the residual chemicals. The seller is someone we know and trust. He said the smell won't go away %100 after they do an additional ion cleaning. But the smell really isnt the issue. It's the health concern, if it's a valid concern, that is. Thank you.
