  1. I am totally seizing the weekend--it's a "girls' weekend" since dh and ds are on a weekend trip with Boy Scouts. ~haircut for me (long overdue) ~go shopping to find a semi-formal dress for dd16 to wear to an upcoming charity ball event ~if the little girls are up for it, we might do some Christmas shopping for other family members while we're out ~relaxing time around the house (make sure we have everything ready for Sunday morning since it will likely be late when we get home on Saturday night) ~volunteering at church to deliver meals to the hungry and homebound in our community ~dinner with my girls ~going to see Elf the Musical on stage (7:30pm) It will be a late night by the time we get home and the girls have to perform at church in the morning.
  2. I really don't feel like tackling the day. I just feel like relaxing and not rushing around. The kids are apparently tired too since it's 8:07am and three of the four are still asleep. I'm going to savor it for a few more minutes before I wake them and force myself to tackle the day. school: wrapping up any leftover assignments from this week ds: finish packing for Scout trip dye my hair (how on earth did I get so much gray?!) dd16: Chem class (12:45-2:15) bank library 1 load of laundry dd16 - meeting friend for dinner & dress shopping (4:45pm-7:45) dd16- pet-sitting this weekend, needs to go walk dog (8-9pm) ds and dh leave for weekend Scout trip (4:45pm) I need to go to the gym and exercise at some point today, but I'm going to need a sudden increase in motivation if I'm actually going to make that happen!
  3. My son is in 7th grade. He is very intelligent, but is also a typical 7th grade male. He does not like to write - he will give long answers orally, but will write the bare minimum if asked to write out answers. He is much more math-minded, inclined to work harder at science and history. In the early elementary grades, we used Bob Jones English. He did fine with it, but I did not see long-term retention with what it was covering. We then used First Language Lessons and Writing With Ease. He did not enjoy them. Last year, we used Hake Grammar 6. He just finished the last lesson of it today and we are looking to start something new. We need something that is "fun" (or as "fun" as writing and grammar can be for a middle school student). I would prefer more of a focus on writing/basics rather than on diagramming sentences. Anything that is less teacher-intensive would be a plus since I have multiple students of differing grade levels and there's only so much time in a day! What would you suggest?

  19. My van is still out of commission, so I'm either stuck at home, or sharing a vehicle with my daughter. Today, dd6 had her orthopedic appt. She's now cast-free and able to resume most activities (just needs to regain range of motion and strength in the arm after 5 weeks of it being immobile). Afterward, we went for an early lunch with my mom. She took the three younger kids to her house for the remainder of the day (it's her day off and they don't get to spend that much time with her).
