  1. Sorry if this gets long. I need advice on what to do about SAT or ACT testing. I did not realize that testing only occurred every 3 months. She ran into her public schooled friends who all took the test today. When I talked to one of the moms she said they needed to take it today if they are applying for college in Oct/Nov for the 2017 school year. So now what do I do? Did I just blow her chances? I am going to register her on the ACT website to see if they have openings this coming weekend to take that test, but who knows. I personally would like her to go to the local Junior College but there is a chance she might play sports for a university so I just want to keep her options open. Thanks for your help.
  2. She will need to take a biology class (or a class that falls in that area) at the CC to transfer if she goes the CC route. (She completed biology+lab at the local public school before I pulled her out) I just want to keep the doors open in case she wants to enter college right out of high school. The astronomy class taken at the CC fulfills a transfer requirement in the physical science area. She will take the lab that goes along with astronomy when she can get in one. She is low priority to register so most classes are full by the time she registers. I am just thinking she needs to do chemistry to build her transcript. Next year she will probably do physics at home. Again, I am looking to keep her NCAA eligible. She is currently doing the 2nd edition of Apologia Chemistry but is not fully getting some of the math. This surprises me since she is strong at math. She is finishing College Algebra at the local CC and is doing amazing job.
  3. It seems like Power Basics is a remedial program. How would this look when writing course descriptions? She wants play soccer so I am wanting to keep her NCAA eligible.
  4. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.
  5. I am looking for a chemistry book for my daughter. She does not care for science so won't be majoring in the science field in college. She has already take Astronomy at the community college which meets transfer requirements in the physical science area. She will need to do the lab component since she only has one science with lab completed on her transcript. I have narrowed it down to Conceptual Chemistry by John Suchocki (4th ed) or Exploring Creation with Chemistry (2nd ed). Do you feel one of would be better than the other? (Thinking about course descriptions submitted to colleges). I am not strong in science either so she will be self-teaching for the most part. Thanks so much for the help.
  6. I was planning on putting an asterisk next to the classes taken at the community college. Should I put a double asterisk by the classes taken at the public high school? On the bottom of the transcript I would then state where the class was taken.
  7. Thank you ladies for taking the time to answer my questions :)
  8. Thank you for your response. Is it okay to list classes like Bible? What about Driver's Education? Am I better off not listing those type of classes? So listing classes by subject would not be too far from the norm? It seems like most classes are listed by grade level on transcripts. You are right in that the public school lists her as a 9th grader when in fact she was in 10th. She worked hard to get through all of the classes they required so she could work on 10th grade subjects.
  9. I was hoping for some help creating my daughter's transcripts. She has not had a "typical" looking school journey. She completed 9th grade classes at home. The next year we put her in an independent high school where they did not accept home school credits. This year we brought her home. I just don't know what is best in making her transcript. Do I list classes by subject (she finished classes at odd times)? Do I include her first year at home or just start with the classes listed on her public school transcript. Here is what she has done. (We live in California) 9th Physical Science+lab Art Media P.E. Home Ec. Bible Algebra 1 (She did English and history too but had to repeat these classes when she went to school) 10th (at a public school) English 9 Geometry Biology+lab Health Geography P.E. Creative Writing English 10 (first semester) Community Service (the school gives credit for this) Intermediate Algebra (like Alg. 2)--taken at Community College Child, Family & Community--taken at Community College Dance Appreciation--taken at Community College 11th (we just pulled her a couple of weeks ago) English 10 (she finished semester 2 at the public school before we pulled her) P.E. Currently doing: English 11 Spanish 1 Chemistry+lab World History Adding Economics second semester at home Astronomy--taking at the Community College Social Problems--taking at the Community College College Algebra--taking at the Community College Thank you for taking the time to help. You are such a blessing. I wish I had the confidence to have just home schooled her from the start of high school. I panicked a little but now I just want to finish strong. Any advice would be appreciated :)
  10. Thank you to those who are taking the time to help me with this. Is foreign language really necessary? Trying to get in a English or foreign language class at our local community college is difficult. She is considered a special admit student and will have to register for a class on the first day of class. Most classes are full and have a wait list by then.
  11. So would I follow this? (Taken from the California Department of Education) Unless otherwise specified, each course shall have a duration of one school year:Three courses in English Two courses in mathematics, including one year of Algebra I (EC Section 51224.5) Two courses in science, including biological and physical sciences Three courses in social studies, including United States history and geography; world history, culture, and geography; a one-semester course in American government and civics, and a one-semester course in economics One course in visual or performing arts, foreign language, or commencing with the 2012-13 school year, career technical education. For the purpose of satisfying the minimum course requirement, a course in American Sign Language shall be deemed a course in foreign language Two courses in physical education, unless the pupil has been exempted pursuant to the provisions of EC Section 51241 Other coursework adopted by the local governing board of the LEA
  12. I don't know how to quote but this is where I am getting her English credits from. In her freshman year she actually did 2 semesters of 9th grade English and the first semester of 10th grade English. She just finished semester 2 of 10th grade English at this school a couple of weeks ago. How this independent school works is you pick a subject and work through that subject until it is complete (taking tests as you go along). Once complete credit is awarded. Please keep the advice coming :)
  13. Thank you for your responses! I guess I should mention we live in California. I am bringing her home this week. She will be doing English 11, World History, and PE. What else should I be doing? I am just looking to hit the requirements (not a-g) since she is going to go the community college for sure. She will attend the college where she already has taken the above listed classes. What am I forgetting? Again I can not tell you how much I appreciate the help!
  14. I need all of your wonderful advice because I am completely panicking right now. Here is my situation. My 16 yo daughter was home schooled until last year. She attended an Independent High School last year. This year we re-enrolled her but now she wants to come home. She desires to be part of our home school community again. My problem is though I don't know how to classify her and where to begin her education. Age wise she is a Junior and that is where she would like to be. During her freshman year she completed several additional classes and took some classes at the community college. She plans to go to the local community college when she graduates high school. Some of my questions are: 1. How do I do a transcript for her? Do I put the classes she took at the public school on it or attach the one from the school? 2. She has not taken World history yet so does that make her a Sophomore? 3. Should she take the SAT even though she is not transferring straight into a 4 year? 4. If she is classified as a Junior what is my best plan of attack for finishing high school? My head is just spinning right now. Any help/advice would be SO appreciated. Here is a list of the classes she has completed. High School Classes Completed at a public high school: Creative Writing 2 semesters English 9P 2 semesters Biology P 2 semesters Focus on Geometry 2 semesters PE 3 semesters (she played a sport) Community Service 2 semesters Geography 1 semester Health 1 semester English 10P 1 semester (She just finished semester 2 last week. Hopefully it will show on her transcript) Community College classes: Dance Appreciation (learned about dance history, not a PE dance class) 3 units Child, Family and Community 3 units Intermediate Algebra (5 units) Currently in College Algebra (4 units), Astronomy (3 units), and Social Problems (3 units) Thanks for taking the time to help me :)
  15. How about Amazon? I searched green marble contact paper and found it. I would link it, but I don't know how :)
  16. Again, thanks for all those who responded. I think I was posting the same time as some of you :) On the Oak Meadow website they sell a syllabus and tell you to call if you want the teacher's manual. I just can't decide if I really need it, but it sounds like it has the answers so it would make life easier!
  17. Thanks so much for responding. I want to order soon since I hear it takes awhile for them to ship the product. Since I would have to call to order the teacher's manual I was waiting to order the syllabus. Hopefully that way I only have to pay shipping once. If anyone actually owns the teacher's manual to World Geography could chime in I would appreciate it.
  18. I have decided to use Oak Meadow Geography for my 9th grader. I have never used their curriculum and was wondering if I need to order the teacher's manual? Does anyone know what kind of information is in the teacher's manual? Any information is greatly appreciated.
  19. I don't know how hard it would be to do, but whitewashing would look pretty. It would also give them that "beachy" look.
  20. I voted other because my daughter did very well with CLE in the lower grades. She is currently doing CLE algebra 1 (sunrise edition).
  21. Thank you SO MUCH for posting this. I just bought 8 books I needed for ten dollars and change.
  22. My daughter suffers from this too. She plays club soccer and participates in competitive gymnastics. She uses a Cho-Pat Original Knee Strap I bought from Amazon. She is tall and slender and an extra-small fits nicely. She ices her knee with a bag of frozen peas after games and practices.
