  1. Thanks for the replies! I would like to just use the text as well and may later but I think the workbooks would be a good start for me until I get the hang of this writing process. I'm excited!! I think this will be the perfect program for us. Thanks again!!
  2. Hi! I bought the WWE book with years 1-4 last year and then forgot about it almost as soon as it arrived. :/ I just brought it out if hiding today but now have some questions about how to use it. Do you find it easier to just use this book (which I am understanding is possible) or do you like the student book better? Do you need this book if you purchase the student book? Can you use just the worksheets with this book? I've looked though the samples but it isn't quite clear to me yet. I appreciate any help. Thanks!
  3. Hi! I'm looking for an grammar program for my boys. R&S has been the only thing I've ever used. It worked nicely for my teen a couple of years ago but it isn't even close to working with my current 3rd grader. I think it may be more ME than HIM though. I'd like something that isn't as dry...something we can look forward to doing. I love English/grammar/writing, but R&S is killing me. :) If possible I would like suggestions that a 2nd grader (who has been listening in and retaining) and a 4th grader (who has had very little formal instruction). We did a year of FFL 1/2 but it was a little slow for us. I've heard that FFL 3 is different but haven't looked into it yet. Something that my boys could sit with me and do together would be great. We like worksheets and such. If it makes a difference, I'm considering WWE or WWW for our writing program. Thinking about FFL 3, GWG, and EG currently. Any thoughts? Thanks so much! Christie
  4. Our week. Lots of pics, a few videos, and one little bitty giveaway.
  5. Hey ladies! Just found a couple sampler CDs that I picked up at the D6 conference LAST year! These are AWESOME for bible verse memory work! I don't need two so I'm giving away one on my blog!
  6. We do morning time where we cover all of those things and more. I just wrote out a list of things I wanted them to learn that didn't really fit into a particular area and lumped them all into morning time. Calendar, weather, memory work, etc. Some of my inspirations: http://homeschoolcreations.com/CalendarMorningBoard.html http://mamajenn.com/MamaJenn/CalendarTime.html http://www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/tag/calendar-time
  7. Our week. I'll be back later to read everyone else's. Have a GREAT weekend!!
  8. Me! :) I was thrilled with our day until I realized a few minutes ago that we never did any math. Ha! Lesson book open on the table and somehow we still forgot MATH. Oh well, there's always tomorrow!
  9. We must have posted at the same time! I'll join yours since I managed to get the date wrong. Ha! Here's ours. Isn't much but I'm trying to get back in the blogging habit.
  10. We try to really celebrate the first day of public school too. We have a Not-Back-to-School breakfast at a restaraunt AFTER we sleep in. I usually let them sleep in as long as they want and then we'll eat about mid-morning. This year I have a public schooler too so we all got up at 6am to get ready to take him to school. This taught my little a lesson....they NEVER want to go to public school because they don't want to get up so early! We had our mid-morning breakfast as usual and then went to a pool party with our homeschool group. When we got home, I gave them their *special* school supplies that the public schools won't let their students have....folders, notebooks, pencils, and pens with cartoon characters...and some other fun school things.
  11. We will start next week so this week I talked about changes to our homeschool and shared our curriculum plans. :) Excited for next week!!
  12. After looking over all of the suggestions, I'm thinking maybe WWE teacher book with me selecting the copywork and dictations AND WWW. What do you think? Too much for a 3rd grader also doing R&S English? I like IEW but don't have it in the budget right now. Maybe next year.
  13. Thank you for your help!! I think WWE might be what we need. It would make sense because we already use other SWB books and I decided last spring to stick as close to the WTM as possible this school year. One more question. I've read that the difference between WWE and Winning With Writing is teaches how to write a sentence and build a paragraph (read some reviews on here). I want my boys to learn to write well. Will WWE teach them this? Maybe WWS, if we continue through WWE? We are also using R&S 3 with my 3rd grader. Should I not worry then since R&S teaches writing as well? I didn't think it taught ENOUGH writing with my oldest child which is why I'm looking for a separate writing program. Thank you ladies so much for your help!!!
  14. So for WWE, would I need the instructor text and the student workbook or pages? It says the instructions aren't included with just the student pages so is that what the instructor text is for? Could I get just the student workbook then? I guess I'm wondering what the difference between the three are. Thanks!!
  15. Hi all! This is the LAST piece we need to complete our curriculum for the new year, but I have no idea! I was all set to buy Write Shop Primary A. Mostly to see if it would work for both of my boys. Neither have done any real writing. They write letters to friends and family occasionally but it isn't anything that I correct. However, I think I might like EIW if I could ever figure out what to order. I've looked at the history-based lessons but the whole curriculum confuses me. Then I also ran across Writing Tales. Don't know anything other than I noticed it has some good reviews on here. Lastly Writing with Ease? Is this a handwriting or writing program? I would really like to find something my 1st and 3rd grader could do together but maybe that isn't possible. We are going to do a lot more copywork this year. Maybe that would be enough writing? Advice please! Thank you!! Christie
  16. I love using a 100's chart to count up to 100 days of school. Then we do something special on that day. Great for littles. Plus we have a straw counter for counting days of school too. Have you seen Jenn's morning board? Mine is similar. I've been working on a wall of education for my kiddos instead of just the board with calendar activities. I've added a world map and the postcards we've received so far from a state postcard swap, and will add a USA map for our states study. I plan on making a space for our memory verse of the week and if there's any room left a whiteboard. :)
