  1. Back when I first started cooking, I really enjoyed the Taste of Home magazine and cookbooks. They have easy and tasty recipes that basically taught me how to cook. I went from following recipes to modifying them to suit our taste. Now I use them just for ideas, usually combining a couple of recipes to make something new.

  2. Well, no husband of mine will be serving in the Texas army, that is for dang sure!!!! (Err...my dh is from Texas and I am from Oklahoma, just to clarify). Not having to deal with the EPA would make evacuating those bases much easier.

Oh I will sign that then!!

    FWIW I am from Oklahoma.

:D I am from Oklahoma too, but I live in Texas. We should just get out together.

  3. We have been eating paleo/primal for almost 2 years now.

Our meals consist of the following:

Grilled meat - chicken, steak, hamburger patties

Stir fry - chicken or beef

    Salads - lots of salad

Stir fry any mixture of veggies: squash, zucinni, broc., cauliflour, carrots, cabbage

    Ground beef with cabbage

Stew - Ground beef or stew meat, carrots and potatoes, celery, lots of seasoning

This is the majority of our meals. I work fulltime so cooking during the week has to be quick. Our go to meal is the grilled meat and stir fry veggies. Or the ground beef and cabbage. You can make a variety of meals the the stir fry.

  4. We use to buy ground up chicken for our dog. We got it as a 5 pound bag of frozen stuff. I would thaw it out in the fridge and while it was still good and cold, I would make meatballs out of it, place on cookie sheets to refreeze. I never had any issues with it, except to find out the dog is allergic to chicken.

  5. Many life events happened that were part of it.

I made several observations about traditional Christian believers (current and historical) that were a part of it.

I realized that my approach to the Christian Bible was not compatible with traditional Christianity.

Many life events continued to happen.

The "mysteries of faith" and "seeming dichotomies and inconsistencies" were no longer assuaged by platitudes.

The absurdity of it: that the Christian story was to be believed but other stories were myths.

Sin, "fallen", need of a savior?

I should add that I didn't "find another religion" but felt more liberated and comfortable in accepting my quirky version of one. I think I still believe in a greater spiritual force.

    :iagree:

  6. Even having been married many years now, I have still mostly cooked with ground beef, with a roast here and there. So, here we are, about to pick up our first batch of grass-fed beef, not a side or anything, but about 50# still! Will those of you with more varied cooking skills give me your tips for using the following cuts:

    Beef Variety Package -

    15# of steaks:

    ~ 3-4 rib-eyes

    ~ 3-4 T-bones

    ~ 2 sirloins

    ~ 2 round

    ~ 2 cubed

    15# of roasts:

~ 1 rump or eye of round

    ~ 1 arm

~ 1 chuck (This is what I usually use for French dip sandwiches or Sunday roast)

    ~ 2 stew meat

20# of ground beef (1-lb packs, choose 80% or 90% lean or combination) -- I know what to do with this one, lol!

So, is this from Paidom? Sounds like thier variety pack.

I am getting my order this Sunday.

  7. We have been eating primarily paleo for almost two years. My husband, son and myself had significant improvement and weight loss within the first several months. My daughter didn't have any weight to lose, but she did have improvements in her skin.

My son had the most significant results. He lost 70 lbs in about 6 months. His terrible acne cleared up. It will flare up if he eats grains or too much sugar even now. He continues to stay thin, even though he will eat off paleo.

My husband lost 40 lbs in the first 6 months and has been slowly slimming down even more. He is 46. His overall health and bloodwork has greatly improved. He has to do bloodwork each year for insurance and the difference between December 2010 and December 2011 is extrodinary.

I lost 45 lbs in the first 6 months. My IBS was virtually gone after 30 days. My energy level and state of mind was greatly improved. Before eating paleo I felt much older that 44. My skin and hair even gave me a much older look. Now at 46, I feel better that I have in over 20 years.

Paleo has become a way of life for us. We buy grass fed, grass finished beef from a farm in Texas. Eat organic veggies when we can. But we actually don't eat a lot of veggies. Since eating this way, we just aren't as hungry as we use to be. We do eat some dairy in the form of good quality, minimal ingredient ice cream and some raw milk cheese. My son will eat some bread products, but the rest of the family doesn't.

In the long term, I don't see us going back to the Standard American Diet ever again.

  8. Just thought of one other thing--can you get a sample beforehand? I've bought bulk grassfed beef from 2 farms, and vastly prefer the flavor of one of them. The other tasted really fishy. :tongue_smilie: I like the flavor of grassfed, so it wasn't just that. We buy a half beef at a time--before investing that much dough I like to be sure I've enjoyed that particular farm's beef before.

    Amy

You can order and have shipped individual cuts that you want to try. He will ship it to you, but it isn't cheap to do that.

If you were anywhere near Houston, I would gladly give you some meat to try.

I have never had any of his meat taste fishy. There is an occasional difference in taste depending on what grass the cow has eaten. But not anything severe.

  9. The next Texas swing is mid-July, I believe; deliveries are bimonthly. Email carnivore@paidom.com to get on the email list and to ask any questions you may have. Alan and his family are terrific, and I won't purchase beef, pork, or lamb anywhere else. :001_smile:

Sorry, didn't see the post anymore. But Mamagistra is right. The next delivery is mid July. We just bought half a cow last month. Will probably buy some variety packs on the next trip plus some whole chickens. He is suppose to have chickens then, he has been out all winter.

Alan is a very nice guy and they do business with a handshake. I hope to never have to buy meat from anyone else.

  10. We buy grass fed/grass finished beef from Paidom. They are by Lubbock, Texas. Every two months he makes a trip around Texas delivering meat. We usually buy half a cow or several variety packs from him each time. When we buy a half it is $4.70/lbs. The variety packs are $5.00/lbs. He does charge $20.00/box for delivery to pay for his time and fuel for making the deliveries.

We love the meat, it tastes so much better than grocery store beef. The only thing that we really noticed is that the grass fed beef is leaner, so you don't want to cook it too done.

You can check out his website at www.paidom.com

  11. My young female cat caught a fledgling Bluejay last week. We found her in my bathroom consuming it. This is after she left blood and feathers in our dining room and the kids bathroom and feathers in my bed. I had to get a bucket to pick up all the bits laying around and disinfect all the areas. :ack2:
