  1. My plan is to use it for DS in 5th next year. :001_smile:
  2. No worries!! Thank you for the explanation about how you use it. It's also great to know that Berean was willing to give you permission to make the few copies you might need.
  3. Thank you for letting me know what your week looks like with the advanced lists. Sounds like you have a great flow going.
  4. Ugh, where was this when I needed it this year and last?
  5. For those that have used LOE all the way through and have then gone back through the lessons with the advanced spelling lists...how did it go? Also............ Did you still do the lessons just as scripted or do something different? If so, please share your approach. What about the advanced phonogram set of cards? Where and how did you work these in? If you have yet to cycle back through, but plan on it, please share your plan. TIA
  6. Another vote for Winston Grammar here. DS is actually doing really well with grammar this year.
  7. All the comments about how much everyone still loves it and how easy it is to get the experiments/demonstrations done is so encouraging! However, it's making me want to just go buy the text now so I can get my hands on it and I was REALLY hoping to be able to get it used. Must resist the urge to buy now and just be patient.............
  8. My DS loves the You Choose Interactive History Books. He loves that he can choose the direction of the story. (don't let the price at that link scare you away. They can be found on Amazon and at Rainbow Resource for about $6) Also, check your library. Our library has several. I would recommend that you read through one first though. The story paths will often lead to the death of your character and the hardships they faced.
  9. Thank you Yes, while it looks like it will include a lot (maybe even the cheese grater and can opener I mentioned earlier - lol) I can still think of a lot better uses for the $85.
  10. The supply list seemed to be pretty basic to me. Which is one of the reasons I liked it. I also remember things like food. Items that would need to be purchased fresh. So on top of the $85, you would still have to buy things. I also remember the list mentioning a cheese grater and can opener. I doubt those are included in the kit. I am not sure that an $85 kit would be worth it. However, I have not seen it, so I couldn't honestly say. Could you provide a link to it?
  11. I got the recipe I use from this blog page. I don't know the blogger. I just googled one day and picked the one I liked best. Since I have limited space for a large container of soap, I cut the recipe in fourths like she suggests.
  12. Sensitive skin here.....Our homemade laundry soap is Kirk's castile soap, baking soda and washing soda. I have been using it for 4 months now and it works good and DS hasn't had any issues with it. Since we have a HE washer and a water softener, I mix the soap in a cup of really hot water before I pour it over our clothes.
  13. If you have used the first edition of All Things Fun and Fascinating is the teacher's edition included in the book or was there a download link for it like it states there is in the revised edition?
  14. Could you expand a little bit about how you use it in your co-op? Does every child have a book or do you just teach the lessons to them from the book? How many times does your co-op meet a week? I was thinking about using it for our co-op but we only meet once a week. Since I don't have the book in my possession yet (hoping to find one used actually) I can't judge how I would do this as a once a week class yet.
  15. Glad to hear it is still working. I am wanting to buy this for next year. It really looks like it will be right up my sons alley.
  16. We use character studies from Train Up a Child. There are 16 lessons in each book. You can find them on christianbook.com. I will come back later and link them for you. On my phone right now. ETA: Publisher site now linked above. I like that these have you reading straight out of the bible as well. We will use one of these for a few weeks and then just read straight out the bible for a few weeks. We keep that rotation up throughout the year.
  17. Since you are already incorporating SOTW into the mix, what about just continuing that with your younger two while your oldest does MOH 3? Then if there are any lessons that you would like them to do in MOH 3, you could do those when your ds gets to them. Volume 3 is also a great time to do some extra studying on explorers when you get to that chapter. Another idea would be just to use living books that matched up with the time period that your oldest is doing, again including the younger two on the lessons you want them to participate in with MOH 3. Have you checked homeschoolclassifieds.com? I have bought quite a bit from there and here on the boards.
  18. You are very welcome. Like I said, some may disagree and have no problems using vol 3 for elementary, but it wouldn't work for my ds. Where are you now? Have you already completed volume 2?
  19. Please keep in mind that it has been almost 4 years since I completed Volume 3 with my daughter so I am trying to remember. I do remember a couple of lessons having to do with the artists where it mentioned homesexuality. You will also read about Henry VIII and his many wives (his roaming eye) and his daughter, "Bloody Mary." I also remember a part about the execution of Mary Queen of Scots that might have been a bit much for younger kids. Sorry, I don't remember the exact details mentioned, just that at the time, I was glad I wasn't using it with a younger student as well. Of course, Linda did an excellent job writing about all of the sensitive subjects and usually had a warning before a section, letting you know that you might want to skip it for more sensitive or younger students. I also felt that the history surrounding the Reformation might be difficult for younger students to understand. However, that is just my opinion and I'm sure there are many that may feel completely different. That's the beauty of homeschooling, deciding what's best for your kids and when. I would like to reiterate that I loved volume 3 of MOH! Like I stated before, it was my favorite volume out of the first three. I am starting my DS with the first volume next year for 5th grade. I am excited to go through them once again and this time be able to finish out the series with volume 4.
  20. The MOH 3 yahoo group has a schedule for combining it with other curr, SOTW included. The lessons in MOH Vol 3 are much lengthier than the first 2 volumes. They are also a bit heavier as far as content goes. MOH Volume 3 was definitely my favorite so far. However, I personally would not use it until middle school. JMO
