  1. Our library has The Bronze Bow available as an audio online! Thank you ladies. I think we will try to do both. Lori D, an extra thank you for that break down! You are a wealth of information. 😊
  2. The font is what made me skeptical at first too. However, once we started using it, it was not an issue at all.
  3. If you have read both The Bronze Bow and The Golden Goblet, please give me your opinion. If you could only choose one of them, which would it be and why? UPDATE: We will be doing both! Our library has the Bronze Bow available as an audio ebook. :001_smile: Thank you all for your input!!
  4. Thank you again ladies. I've just decided not to really worry if we are doing each book at grade level. If it takes us longer to go through the entire series than 8th grade, then so be it.
  5. Are you a member of the MOH 2 yahoo group? If not, you should join. There are several schedules there. You might be able to find what you're looking for.
  6. We are going back to CGE next year. I was flipping through the teacher book of 5/6 and both levels cover the same topics in each lesson. Even the assignments look pretty much the same. If you have used the upper levels 5/6 and 7/8.... 1. Did you find it necessary to do all the levels? I was thinking of just skipping 5 and going straight into 6. 2. I don't have the teacher's book for 7/8. Is it set up the same way as 5/6? (Lessons covering same topics and assignments pretty much the same). Is doing both levels necessary?
  7. I work outside the home about 25 hours a week, also at church. I am able to bring my DS with me. I can't say what a huge blessing this is as I am also a single mom. The schedule can be tough at times, especially when trying to work in our homeschool group activities. You just have to prioritize. I've also come to terms with the fact that I will never be fully caught up on the laundry and the house will never be completely clean all at one time.
  8. I am not the OP, but wanted to thank you for this post!! The timing was perfect. What a wonderful reminder of what is truly important.
  9. Hmmm, I guess I will have to see where were are at that point then. Getting him to read is like pulling teeth. He reads well, just doesn't like to. It might not be a bad idea for us to continue on with the series. Thankful I don't have to figure that out now. :001_smile: Thank you so much for your help!
  10. Thank you so much! So in your experience you didn't feel the need to proceed beyond the 6th book? I haven't even looked at the samples for the 7th and 8th grade levers yet.
  11. With LOE, he does well with the advanced words while we are on each list. However, he sometimes struggles with retention. As we get later in the lessons (he did it when we were using LOE essentials too) all of the different spelling rules start to become overwhelming and he shows more signs of a struggle. I am more than ok with using a curriculum behind "grade level" even, if it means better understanding and retention. I had read a few threads that recommended using R&S Spelling ahead of grade level which is what prompted my question.
  12. I am looking into switching over to R&S spelling. I really like LOE with the advanced lists, but with my current work situation, I need something more independent for DS. He's in 5th. My biggest question would be where to start him? I'm really leaning towards starting him at grade level even though we are half way through the year. I like the workbook for 5th and think he would make the transition easier by using the workbook. I would not speed him through it which means we would still be using the 5th grade book half of next year too. (i know, I know, this is the beauty of homeschooling) However, I have this little nagging doubt about whether to start with the 6th grade book now instead? So, what say the hive?
  13. Did I miss something? Was your post not allowed? I found it extremely helpful and wanted to start this method with ds.
  14. No, no, no.....I don't need another one to look at. I did not know they had a 5-8th grade "general science" set. I will be closely following this thread. I have always liked the looks of their curriculum but the price has always been a deterrent for me.
  15. Thanks for posting this. There seems to be some interesting stuff here...and the fact that it is a 15 year old boy who founded this is awesome.
  16. Oh my goodness, no worries!! I just wanted the OP to know that the shipping fees would be more than a dollar and change in case that changed anything for her. :001_smile:
  17. If you really want to use Fix It, you could do both. The lessons in Fix It are short and it is completely different than R&S.
  18. Actually, this is their shipping rates........ Regular orders up to $45.00 are charged $4.95 for shipping. Orders from $45.01-$200.00 are charged 11% of the order subtotal. Orders from $200.01-$500.00 are charged 10% of the order subtotal. Orders over $500.00 are charged 8% of the subtotal.
  19. Okay totally thought the last question was asked by the original poster, hence my strange answer that I just deleted. Oh my word, not feeling well today and should probably not be trying to answer questions. Especially those that weren't posed to me. Agreeing with OneStepAtATime, going with someone can be fun.
  20. If you're homeschooling in the state that I am in, and it sounds like you are :001_smile:, I would make time to hear Heidi St. John. She is very encouraging. Here's how I tackle the convention...... Look over each lecture and see if there are any that stand out as something we would benefit from. For example I look for encouraging lectures, lectures on methods or curriculum that I might be interested in, lectures on learning differences... you get the picture. If the lecture is being given by someone I am unfamiliar with, I always check to see if they have a website and check them out there. Then I see when each of these lectures are taking place. Are there any that might be in the same hour? If so, do either have a booth in the exhibit hall? I try to figure out which one would I benefit more from by sitting in on the lecture and which I could gain information on by swinging by their booth. Of course there is always the option of buying the audio of one of the lectures. (sometimes you can find the lecture on the speakers website) As far as the exhibit hall, I always go through and make a list of who I need to hit because I am going to buy curriculum there to save on shipping and which vendors I really want to learn more about. (Rainbow Resource is a booth I always hit as early as I can. They have the biggest selection of many different things and sometimes sell out quickly) After I have gone to the vendors that I need to go to, then I just wander when I have time in between lectures. I love to look at and learn about new curriculum. Even if it's something that we won't use, someone I know might benefit from it. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it... ) I ALWAYS go knowing what I NEED to spend on curriculum while I'm there. If there is room in the budget for any extras, then I have a set dollar amount for that and never make an impulse buy. This will be the first year that I haven't gone to convention in about 5+ years. :crying: It is always a time of encouragement for me. Enjoy yourself!!
  21. The Companion Guide does have suggestions on other books for younger students. But like a pp mentioned, the yahoo group is a great source for information. Highly recommend joining it if you haven't already.
  22. I just discovered this one. America from the Beginning. If you click on the individual books you can see a sample. Not sure if it's interesting enough, but definitely from a Christian perspective. And it's on sale right now. lol
