Thanks! Do you have any suggestions or experiences with any other high school programs that aren't too pricey? -
K12 Users - Please Advise
Nelko26 replied to Nelko26's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Thanks Kai, I appreciate the feedback :-) At this point, I between a rock and a hard place.... My husband doesn't think we can do high school without a structured program and a bm school is out of the question, but I'm so fed up - I don't know what to do. -
Hey everyone, my son is currently in 9th grade Connections Academy. Our problem is that there seems to be a mojor disconnect between the materila presented and the assessments. My son studys very hard, understands the material, but when it comes to the quizzes and tests - he gets so frusterated. His teachers have even admitted that many of the questions are unrelated or strangley worded. My question to K12 users, Are the assessments clear and do they match the material being taught? I am really worried about the amount of stress that he is going through.....Thanks for reading!

Hi Simka, The best way is to Google a soap recipe with easy on hand oils such as olive, palm, etc. You Tube also has a few videos for beginners which I found very helpful. You will need lye which can be found at any home improvement store (sold as drain cleaner), a thermometer, a scale, a mold (nearly anything can be used as long as it's lined with wax paper) and some kind of fragrance. It's really fun to do, I turned my hobby into a small business: www.sea9soap.com (just to give you some ideas). Let me know if you have any questions, I'd be more than happy to help :001_smile:

I got a free prime membership by joining the Amazon "mom" club (it's free). Every time you spend $25 in baby items you get 1 month of prime free. I get a really good deal on diapers through their subscribe and save program and have gotten 8 months of free prime membership. Hopefully the offer is still the same now :001_smile: http://www.amazon.com/gp/mom/signup/welcome -

Wow, thanks for the heads up! I'm glad everything turned out well for your DS.

I never knew that could be a possible cause. After all the great advise, I think I will take him to the MD to rule out any underlying causes and then decide from there. Thanks!

My almost 11 year old DS still wets the bed at night. What would you do? Thanks!

How Long to Exclusively Breastfeed?
Nelko26 replied to Nelko26's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks for all the feedback :001_smile: My DD is almost 4 months and I really wanted to hold off until at least 7-8 months - I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy, LOL. I'll just pay attention to her cues and not feel rushed because her pediatrician suggests 6 months . Thanks again! -
I was just wondering, those of you who breastfed/feed - How long did you exclusively breastfeed for?

I'm going to go out on my own here and vote for physical therapy. My husband has his doctoral in physical therapy and says many of his patients go through chiropractors before going to physical therapy because they only feel better for the short run - no long term relief. Generally, chiropractors treat symptoms while therapists treat the cause. Again, this is my husband's own personal experience - not trying to bash any chiropractors out there :-)

My two boys are currently enrolled in K12 in SC and I am seriously considering pulling them out - more for the politics than curriculum. There are a lot of hoops to jump through to meet state requirements. There is very little flexibility here, if you don't move at the expected pace - your grade drops. Grades are based on completion and study island grades. Online classes are required twice a week at specific times. Attendance of 6 hours per day must be reported daily. It is very stressful to say the least. After homeschooling on my own for 5 years, its very hard to beat to the drum of another :-) Please keep in mind, all these technicalities depend on the state.

Thanks for all the replies :)

Hi Everyone! I have been told many times that being part of a charter/online school (K12, Connections, etc) makes it easier to get scholarships, get into a good college/university, etc. I'd love to hear your opinions & advice :-) Thanks! BTW, my boys are currently enrolled in K12 public charter school (first year) and I am very tempted to pull them out because of the politics and some other issues I have with the school. After homeschooling on my own for so many years it so hard to be a part of something so rigid!
