  1. Put me down in the "love" camp too! My son went from kicking/screaming/crying (and that was me!) our way thru Book 1 of Horizons 4 to TT6. He "got" the concepts and didn't really have any trouble "doing" the math. He was just overwhelmed with all the problems not only on the page and the lesson for the day, but also what was 5, 10, or 20 lessons away. I like that in TT all he has to focus on is the one problem at a time. He can't look ahead 30 lessons and say "ahh that's too hard, I don't know how to do that!!" Also "Math 6" has given him the confidence that he can be "good" at math. I find that no more confusing than 5/4 or 6/5. And while I wouldn't say he loves math, there usually isn't a drudge report! I smile when I walk by and hear DS with his cool "tutor". Now I have the time to figure out how the heck this Miquon works for my dd :tongue_smilie:
  2. Are these a "good thing"? I can't really find any samples other than a worksheet on Rainbow Resource. I am just wondering what kind of guidance or activities are included. I am looking at Explorers - 1815 with my 6th and 2nd graders.
  3. Another good reading suggestion is "The Out of Sync Child". This was THE real eye-opener on our path with our quirky puppy/boy. :001_smile:
  4. Jennifer ohpleaseohpleaseohplease let me come to the corner! I'm a super fun square peg . I was telling my sister how irritated I was with the "left-wing liberal""right-wing republican" either/or of the world.... I decided I am a "chicken-wing vegetarian"
  5. Bless you!! Bless you one and all!! Thank you for letting me feel normal again!! I am often left thinking 'how do I seem like the crazy person now'? (Not saying anyone else in particular is particularly crazy... but just so opposite and adamant.... and loud) I am a moderate/ wishy-washy/ wine-drinking/ chocolate-eating / can't we all just get along / what's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding really, really nice person! So indeed ,a beach with you ladies sounds lovely... so instead of my head in the sand it would be "toes in the water, @#$ in the sand, not a worry in the world , cold beer in my hand...."
  6. DH & I are in the "talking about it" phase, but I am pretty sure we are getting close to the "starting it" phase. I heard it was good for people with type II diabetes ( which my DH is newly diagnosed) . I just need to break my addiction to carbs and lose some weight. What books do you all think I need? I was going to order some stuff from half.com, so I wanted to go ahead and get what I need for a go(combined shipping) deal. There's The South Beach Diet a cook book a dining guide and a good carbs, bad carbs guide..... Any advice as to what I should purchase??
  7. Just another tidbit.... if you decide to just let her sit in limbo instead of blocking or ignoring, make sure you have your privacy settings so that your wall is not visible or she would be able to "see" your updates and that you commented here and there....in case she is a little "stalker-ish"
  8. I really don't think they would know. I have never ever ever received any notice that so and so checked your profile. If they have requested you, their page will be available/not private. You could not do anything... just leave them in facebook limbo (when they look for you it will say "awaiting friendship request").
  9. Can you just open and listen on your computer? I just did..... and I am giddy with delight!!! I am so behind the times! I don't have an mp3 player, ipod, whatever, and I've never burned a cd. So, I'm just SOL on this? What is the cheapest way I can get "with it", if I want access to this kind of stuff???
  10. Is there anything out there ( a schedule, a plan?) like Biblioplan.... except free? I am looking for something to combine my 5th and 1st grader.
  11. I just want to thank each and every one of you ladies who took the time to respond!!! The information is so appreciated. We are very excited about exploring your city!
  12. MY ds says she needs to hold down the R button while moving the control stick (the little gray thingy) left or right. "It is the key to winning the Dragon Roost Cavern level".......... I have no idea what I just typed, but that's what the expert says..........
  13. WOW! thank you all so much for all of this advice. I knew this was the place to ask! I appreciate it so much. I know my parents.... if I don't have a plan when we get there, we won't do anything at all. It is actually the first time my children have ever "been" anywhere, so it is not only a family visit, but also a grand vacation adventure for us. I thought 2 weeks sounded like a long time when I planned the trip, now I am not so sure! We will definately make it to Galveston, or elsewhere, for a beach walk, as well!
  14. I saw Moody Gardens ~ I couldn't quite figure it out. It seems reallyreallyreally big! I'll see if we can just visit the aquarium bit. Otherwise, do you all think the Kipp Aquarium at the Zoo has enough "aquarium" to call it a day? Or is it just a minimal exhibit?
  15. well okay then Joanne! Do tell about the homeschool store ~ do you have the name or an address?
  16. We are coming to Houston next week to visit my parents. My children are 11yo ds and 6 yodd. So what should we do?!?!?!? There seems like sososo much to do. We certainly can't afford the time or the $ to do it all, so I'd love some advice. ( I know about the CityPass, but that seems like too much pressure to do everything) I'm thinking the Space Center, the zoo, and the Children's Museum(we have reciprocal zoo and museum membership, so that would save $$) . My dd would love an aquarium as well ~ what about that Downtown Aquarium? I read somewhere it is a restaurant? Oh and Ikea~ I must go to Ikea!
  17. I have this one http://www.amazon.com/West-Bend-6-Quart-Electric-Popcorn/dp/B00004RC6R
  18. I have a Stir Crazy popper. I use olive oil and sea salt and it is the best popcorn ever! Clean up is very easy. It's probably my most used kitchen do-dad. I use it a couple-several-many times a week. :lurk5::lurk5::lurk5: Cindy
  19. Is it someone from that past that may have "friended" you to check out what was going on in your life and then "unfriended" you? hmmm... no you said You are on their friend list? hmmmm.... maybe try to "refriend" and see what it says?
  20. I don't think they can hide themselves from you, but maybe you accidently hid them. Go down to the very bottom of your News Feed ~ click there where it says Edit Options ~ there you can see who you have hidden. I still think they should be on your Friends List though.
  21. We read a story from the St. Nicholas Center website. The children leave their shoes on the porch and when they awake, they find a little package ~ contains a small gift, clementines, nuts, and chocolate gold coins. This year we added that the children leave a bag of unwanted toys on the porch as well ( which my husband picks up on the way to work and takes to Goodwill) .
  22. We've just started reading her Jesse Tree. I haven't seen anything inappropriate for children yet....but it is still early. I'll be more on the look out now!
  23. We recognized Martinmas... but just a little. We read Matthew 25:31-40 and then read St. Martin's story in the Children's Book of Virtues . We meant to make lanterns, but didn't quite get there, so we lit last year's lanterns at dinner. Also pulling out last years coats to donate to the shelter for women and families is an important part of the tradition. I love Martinmas, but it is still new to us. Each year I get a little better at recognizing it....at least this year I remembered!!
