  1. My friend and I started talking about starting a book group as a way to get together regularly and read some books together. We decided to ask some girls/women from college (back in the day) to join us.... so it will be a multi-tasking kind of girl's night out/potluck/margaritas kind of book group. So does anyone have any great book suggestions?? Nothing too heavy or heady (though a little heavy and heady could be okay) ~ really just good, fun, and discussable??
  2. My bathtub had that $ame $ituation, but I think the sinks were newly installed (just 20 or so years old). The faucet is pretty standard, low-range and now gross and there are the shut off valves under that sink. So I think I am good to go! I think I can, I think I can, I think I can!!!
  3. tee hee...don't run away!!! But it is indeed very, very, very ugly.
  4. You are so right!! The home improvement guys with their wonky ideas may have been more than partially responsible for my "I can do this!" past failures. Oh I am so excited!!
  5. replace a standard bathroom sink faucet by myself? My dh doesn't do much handy-business around the house and would probably call a plumber eventually. We can't afford that, so here I am staring at a horribly hideous, drippy faucet. ( I mean it is really hideous!!) I think more along the DIY way, but there may have been a time or two (or 18) where I have attempted more than I could manage....but I really think I could do it!
  6. Looks like I need to visit my parents again....soon!!
  7. I have been looking over the 3rd edition to see if it could be a fit for my son. The only hesitation I have is that he would be so very, very frustrated with having to copy the problems. My question ~ is the 4th edition student text meant to be more like a workbook?
  8. I do realize the age range, but was just trying to simplify for sanity and $ sake. What sort of more independent thing might you have in mind?:bigear:
  9. So if I have an "enthusiastic" 2nd grader and a "not-so-much" 6th grader would you reccomend I use a Level 1 and have my 6th grader go deeper or a Level 2 and have my 2nd grader just do what she is able??
  10. Whew... I am so happy to come back to your replies! Thanks for the great ideas. I'm not quite as lost as I thought I was. With these suggestions and directions I think I will be able to find my way again. I sat down with the WTM today and it really helped me clarify the plan. @zaichiki...tee hee...
  11. Thanks Karen for your calm thinking.... the whole history plan gone wrong is starting to freak me out. :tongue_smilie: Does anyone know of any free or cheap SOTW 3 and 4 resources online? I just can't face another activity guide. I love them ~ they just make me feel bad.
  12. To begin I have a history-loving 6th grade son and a history-tolerant, but not that interested 2nd grade daughter. My son has "done" SOTW 1 full-tilt , SOTW 2 a little less tilt , and is now reading SOTW 3 for pleasure. We stopped with the emphasis on world history and began to focus on American history in order to bring in my daughter using ondreeuh's plans (most grateful ). I guess I am wondering if "y'all" think I should just let SOTW be pleasure reading or if I should require something "schoolish" from my son. And if so, what ideas do you have? And to add complication, I wanted to start Ancient Egypt ( probably more unit study style ) with my daughter in late fall.:confused::confused::confused::confused:
  13. WOW! I made frozen lemonade in the ice cream maker ... My kids think I am a genius!
  14. You are a very skilled plugger-inner............and you have frozen coke at the plug of a plug... don't be embarrassed. Now I want a Cuisinart!
  15. Does the Cuisinart freeze the stuff? Mine is old-school so I suppose I could try with ice and rock salt as if making ice cream....I'm gonna do IT!!!!
  16. oh I definately need details~frozen coke and lemonade sound so delicious! I bought an icecream maker on clearance last year and haven't used it. I was going to make rice cream, but haven't done that either.
  17. There's one I drive by called Havalock ..... doesn't sound like a very safe place to me... but it always makes me giggle.
  18. I think that sounds like my kind of meeting! We shall meet.... oh whenever ...
  19. We live very near Churchill Downs. This town goes a little looney for 2 weeks:001_smile: There are parties, parties, parties all over town, celebrities everywhere.............. we leave town :tongue_smilie:
