  1. Okay sure I'll pick...what do you like? Indian, Ethiopian, Vietnamese? barbeque? burgers? pizza? Bardstown Road is also filled with great restaurants. btw Lynn's is known for their breakfast!
  2. I've never been to the Mega Cavern. It sounds weird to me too and is very expensive.
  3. Ha I was going to mention Cave Hill Cemetery...but didn't want you to think I am a nut. It is beautiful and many people walk regularly! And the Louisville Nature Center (across from the zoo) is a lovely hike. They have a cool and active bird blind.
  4. I've never been to the Patton Museum...my son has and thought it was awesome. The Louisville Zoo is a pretty good zoo. I've been 7 million times and I still enjoy it. They have some new exhibits and there is a splash park and playground.
  5. here try this. http://www.thehighlandsoflouisville.com/ Lynn's is fun...just kooky fun with good food!!
  6. and Lynn's Paradise Cafe for breakfast or lunch!! http://www.lynnsparadisecafe.com/
  7. The Falls of the Ohio really is a cool place, but we've had so much rain the best part (fossil beds) is under water. When are you coming? That would help me help you. Iroquois and Cherokee are basically just parks ~ beautiful parks for hiking and that kind of thing. Louisville does have good festivals on weekends. Also strolling Bardstown Road in the Highlands is fun for quirky shops and galleries and people watching.
  8. Thank you all for these great suggestions. None of which I have tried yet! I'm going to check out links, so I may have questions. I'm very intrigued by some of these ideas..
  9. Someone, anyone, just tell me what to do and I will do it. I promise!! We just do not "do" it. I want to do it..the kids want to do it....we just don't....please just tell me what to do.:confused::confused::confused: WTM notebooks don't happen. We have such good intentions and we try, but alas, not so much. My children are (in the fall) 7th grade boy (only mildly interested) and 3rd grade girl (VERY clever and VERY highly motivated) I just can't reinvent the wheel, so I would love to combine at least on some level. Secular would be preferable (though we are Christian). I'll do some experiments. I'll buy extra books. I just need a plan!
  10. I have 2 children ages 8 and 12. Both are reaaalllllly enjoying the approach of this program ~ they are actually excited about it. While it is not "for" their ages, it is so refreshing and just a joy here.
  11. We're from Louisville !! We are some of those "Christians, but homeschooling for academic reasons" Any more of us lurking about?!?!
  12. Just wanted to celebrate. I know some have been searching and wanted to jump in to say that is does happen. Prayers are answered. I've been searching for a church home for my children and myself for many, many years. We do have special needs involved, but sometimes I feel like I've been to every church in my not-so-small town. We have been attending one that we all agree feels like home, but I have been slightly hesitant to commit. The recent events among the "Christian" homeschool community had really set my head for a twirl. I sent a note to the pastor saying " if you were to be my pastor, I'd say I needed some pastorin' round abouts now" A long coffee chat later and I am in! Happy dance!!! Praising Him for answered prayer!!!
  13. If anyone wants to sponsor someone to go...I know some ladies in Louisville who would love to go in your place :D
  14. Susan, Thank you. You are kind of a rock star around here. My son and I were just talking about you last week.....well we kind of talk about you in our family all the time. I had ask my son if he credited you with his history-genius abilities. He said "well...mom you get some credit. I remember when you read the first Story of the World to me and you lit a spark...but yeah, Susan Wise Bauer lit the fire". His dream is to be a history professor. And my daughter, as we are going through WWE literature selections, says "Can I get that one to read the whole thing?" She is a book-worm. You are a blessing in our house......a voice of common-sense in a crazy world. You have given me a path to follow of academic excellence...without having to pull my hair out. And thank you for this forum. I have learned much about varying view-points and tolerance here. So thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Cindy
  15. oooh glad to know that Parrothead....you're probably right about that!
  16. I'd probably not wear jeans, but nothing too fancy either. Black pants, lovely top and cute shoes are my go to ensemble!
  17. My kids just pointed out, "hey it's February and mom hasn't had the February freak out yet". There's still time though. I freak out like clockwork. Keeping calm and carrying on.
  18. I think I will call and ask for a coffee talk. I just thought I might be missing something because I was certainly confused....though I do not think it is meant to be confusing. I have been to many, many, many churches at both ends and the middle of the liberal-conservative specturm. Perhaps as the "most conservative of the liberals" and the "most liberal of the conservatives" I am hoping I have found my place :001_smile:
  19. The pastor's words were "progressive, but definately not liberal or humanistic" It seems like a pretty conservative church actually with many older members. I just don't exactly know what those words mean when it comes to church as opposed to politics.
  20. I guess I'm not up on the lingo. What would you think it means if a church calls itself Progressive but Not liberal? They also mention progressive as "open and inclusive love of God." That is "churchspeak" for........?
  21. it's very quiet here.......hmm...so let's say you don't use it in full...what might be your thoughts on it.....would that help make a conversation?
