  1. Just finished a great training session at the gym - reached my goal of being able to deadlift 200 lbs! I'm supposed to run tonight, but the roads are terrible - there was a bunch of snow and then frozen rain and then more snow - so, we'll see what happens, probably depends on how well the snow clearing goes today.
  2. I didn't want to go out for a run today, but I did anyway. It was pretty cold and the wind froze my face, but I managed just over 8 km. Now I'm sitting in front of the fire.
  3. I had no idea, either, until I moved to the UK and couldn't find Nanaimo bars or butter tarts - I ended up making them both. My mom did a lot of baking when I was growing up, but for some reason butter tarts were always something we bought at the bakery, not something we made at home.
  4. If I'm in a nice restaurant and I'm ordering a cocktail, I'll have a cosmo. I also really like gin and tonic. I wonder if a gin and tonic would be easy on the stomach?
  5. Is there a big difference from just regular ear plugs? Now that I have teen boys who want to stay up much later than I do, I wear ear plugs every night.
  6. I ran 10km this morning and felt great! I was able to keep up better with my group, so that was nice. It was 11 degrees celsius here so a big change from the sub-zero temperatures we've been having. It was nice to run without a jacket. I am really struggling with weight loss still. Only down half a pound from last week. It's hard to wrap my head around. I know I am in the last stretch - I probably have about 13lbs to lose - something like that, anyway. I understand it's going to be slow. It just feels unreasonably slow.
  7. All of your meals sound excellent! I frequently make chicken taco salad bowls - my boys have their chicken tacos wrapped in actual tortilla and dh and I have ours over salad. Spices are great - garlic is great. The whole things sound so good! Avocado will give them the added fat. The salmon salad also sounds amazing. Roasted cauliflower would be awesome. I wouldn't eat fat free yogurt. But everything else you are talking about here sounds great. It's so thoughtful of you to put so much effort into supporting their diet! It will mean a lot to them to be able to spend time with you and eat well without compromising :)
  8. Weird - I get asked about my liquids every time I fly. They have to be outside the carry-on and in their plastic bag. I know how much I'm allowed, so I've never gone over, but I've seen other people have to throw out their liquids - oh, and I've been "caught" twice with a water bottle that I forgot was in my bag - they just throw it out.
  9. I have a gas stove with a centre griddle, but I've never used it! Time to dig it out - clearly I had no idea what I was missing.
  10. Did hill training with my running group last night and then hit the gym this morning. My trainer has me doing more lifting and I'm really enjoying it. I've still been successful with my 48 hour fasts twice a week. I'm really happy that I've found something manageable and something that can just be the same every single week. Looking forward to dinner tonight - stuffed mushrooms and shrimp as an appie and then burgers (I make buns that are 2 grams of carbs each) and caesar salad. I may pull out my last piece of Keto cheesecake from the freezer.
  11. I can't help it - I love Lululemon. It seems to last forever and I think they've got really cute stuff. I had one pair of pants that was fraying a bit at the seam after about a year and I took it back - no receipt - and they exchanged it for a similar pair of new pants. Customer service is wonderful. I have pants that are ten years old that I can still wear. My pants stay in place - I can't stand pants that I'm constantly pulling up or worrying about. My exercise bras are comfortable and keep everything where it's supposed to be. I don't buy many shirts from Lululemon, but maybe that's because I'm not as worried about shirts doing what they're supposed to be doing. My favourite hoodie is over 10 years old and still going strong.
  12. I'm pretty sure it depends on the hot tub. Our tub in our last place had a bromine generator. So easy and wonderful. I didn't have to do much to it. The one we have now needs chlorine every week. The hot tub has been fantastic for dh and the boys. He is in it probably 2 or 3 times a week and there's always at least one of the kids in with him. He says they just talk and talk - it's an opportunity to be away from screens and just have some relaxing one-on-one time. I get in about twice a year ;) The biggest pain is emptying it out and putting all new water in.
  13. Absolutely! The way I look at it, running shoes are expensive and they don't last that long. So I want to get as many running miles as possible out of a shoe, which means I save it for only running. Once it wears out, it doesn't provide enough support for running, but it's fine for walking around town, so it becomes a walking shoe. And gym shoes are cheaper than running shoes because I can wear pretty much anything to lift weights. I need separate indoor and outdoor shoes because the track only allows indoor shoes. Plus, it's horrible outside - you should see my outdoor shoes - they're supposed to be white, but they're brown. My feet were soaked in slush on Tuesday. Plus, all the road salt. They definitely can't be worn indoors. I haven't figured out if it makes sense to have a different kind of shoe for the track vs. outside - definitely something to think about.
  14. I keep my shoes separate. I have shoes for the gym that are flatter than my running shoes because I'm lifting weights in them. My gym shoes are only worn indoors and are kept in my gym bag. I do run in them a little - on the treadmill as a warm-up, but not for longer than fifteen or twenty minutes at a time. I also have indoor running shoes. These are for the track. Then I have outdoor running shoes. When I wear out a running shoe it becomes a walking shoe. I don't mix them up.
  15. Oh, yeah - I forgot. Yesterday I bought OPI base coat and top coat and a bottle of Essie polish.
  16. My Dyson vacuum (about 15 years ago), my instant pot (last year) and I'm sure there's been a ton in between.
  17. No kidding! I was trying to figure out what the other poster could possibly have against him. I think he's absolutely brilliant. I am so glad I got to see Hamilton while he was acting in it. He's amazing.
  18. I ran last night with my training group. It had snowed for most of the afternoon and then warmed up to the point where we were running through a lot of slush. Since it was slippery, we didn't do tempo drills (which is normally what we do on Tuesdays), instead we just went for a longer run - about 8km through the slush. My feet were soaked by the end of it. It's cold and windy today so I'm not going anywhere today.
  19. My 17 year old does this, too. He volunteers at two places with friends and one place without friends. He and his friends are pretty serious about their marks, so they study together before tests and exams - either here at our house or at the university library. They also like to have fun - they go to movies, out for dinner, to parties, and (once) bowling. They'll grab our dog and go out for a walk. Sometimes they just hang out here and play video games and eat things.
  20. That's awesome! I can't imagine rowing for an hour - well done! And that's great about the weight milestone, too.
  21. I just got back from the gym. My trainer has me doing more weights and no more circuit-type stuff. I find I'm really enjoying the challenge of lifting, plus, he was playing 90's hip hop and rap, so it was all music from my teen years. Very motivating. I stayed in yesterday. I was supposed to get out for a 5km run, but it was so cold and windy and I just didn't want to. I have a training run with my running group tonight and then I'll break my fast. I feel like I'm doing a lot, which makes me think I should be seeing a faster drop in pounds, but I have to keep reminding myself that it's difficult to actually get the pounds off and I need to just keep doing the right things day after day after day. All those days finally do add up.
  22. I did the same thing - read a lot of reviews and watched a bunch of YouTube videos and I settled on the Erin Condren, too. It's new to me as of Jan 1, so I haven't used it for long, but I love having three sections for each day (I use the vertical layout). I also like the note pages in the back. So far I have used one page to track books I read this year, one to track things I want to do in my province, one related to weight and exercise, and one for vacation planning. I did my monthly meal planning in it and am able to break that monthly plan into my weekly plans as well. I feel way more organized already. I've also incorporated some memory keeping in it by journalling in any blank spots and sticking in pictures (I have the HP Sprocket, so I can print out little picture stickers).
