  1. Yes, that’s why I’m looking into WWW as well. I work from home and sometimes need them to be able to get some work done on their own. I have Write Shop that we are going to use in between those times. Thank you for mentioning that!
  2. I need a straightforward, easy to get done writing program this year. I love Write Shop but our schedule is just too jam packed with me working from home. I thought we would go with Winning with Writing. It's basic and get it done. I'm not sure my girls' stamina will be up for the paragraph count in it this year. Thoughts on this vs. Writing & Rhetoric? I know I would start my 3rd grader in the first book. Where would I start my 5th grader though?
  3. What are you doing with these ages for Bible Study? We have done BSGFAA. It just takes so much time out of our day. Thoughts?
  4. Bible: VP Self paced Math: MLFLE 3 & 4 LA: Growing with Grammar 3, Winning with Writing 3, Write Shop units in between, Soaring with Spelling 3 History: VP Self Paced Greece & Rome or Middle Ages Science: RSO Chemistry Foreign Language: Song School Spanish Lots of reading, ballet and karate.
  5. Thank you! I’ll give that a look to go along with it!
  6. Well, isn’t this a loaded question. ? DD 10 will be doing: Math- MLFLE 5 and probably part of 6 Grammar- Growing with Grammar 5 Spelling - Soaring with Spelling 5 Writing - Winning with Writing 3 with some units from Write Shop D thrown in. We have so net, ected writing. She struggle some with writing and math anyway. Bible - BSGFAA or VP self paced History- America’s Story 1 or VP self paced Science - RSO Chemistry or Sassafras (they love the books) Foreign Language - learning towards Latin for Children but not sure.
  7. I have tried several math programs. We started with Singapore (and maybe we should have stuck with it). My daughter seems to have issues with abstract thinking. She is currently 10 and going into 5th. She was doing CLE a year behind until it just got to be too much. Too much drill and kill. It was taking forever and induced tears daily. I couldn’t do it. In Feb, I bought MLFLE for her to work through. She has about 10 lessons (weeks) worth of material to finish up any new information. I’m seriously worried that it won’t be enough. I think if we use Principles of Mathematics it would be plenty, but I just don’t know. I’m not sure where to look from here. She does well with MLFLE. For the first time, math is not a fight. I see so many people saying it’s not enough though. I’m so worried that I’m messing her up in math. My youngest is also using it about a grade ahead. She is finishing 2nd and about halfway through level 3. What should we do? Stick with MLFLE? I’m not sure going back to CLE or Singapore is a good idea. This homeschooling thing is hard guys. Some more info-My 10 year old is very literal. Things have to be black and white in approach. She doesn’t do welll with the way conceptual programs teach for the most part. I guess we could always try again, but I’m afraid we will lose more ground at this point.
  8. What do you all think of VP self-paced for elementary? We have tried and failed with both SOTW and HO. We did about half of HO last year. I work from home part time, so I get busy and burned out some weeks. They both enjoyed the sample lessons for VP. What age did you move your child into the next level of VP? I think the next one is Omnibus.
  9. I’m trying to finish narrowing down our curriculum lineup for next year. I already own RSO Chemistry 1 and also a few volumes of Sassafras. I’m not sure I can truly implement Sassafras like I would want to. I’m also not sure if it’s meaty enough for their ages. From what I understand RSO Chem 1 should be plenty meaty for their ages. Is this correct? Are there any other easy to implement science programs? Am I missing any other options?
  10. It sounds like you could have skipped volume 1 and gone on to volume 2 in that case. Some kids can. Others need that extra year of review before they are ready for volume 2. This is what I have heard at least.
  11. I haven’t looked at that. I’ll give it a glance.
  12. Sassafras is written for K-6. We are going to give it a shot and see how it goes. They have added a bit of notebooking and lapbooking since I last looked at it. They also have chemistry and and physics in the works as well. We have done SOTW a bit. We ended up liking History Odyssey a bit better. We may just end up sticking with that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing any possibilities.
  13. Which do you prefer: SOTW or History Odyssey? What do your kids find more fun for level 1? Also, my girls are going into 5th and 3rd. SOTW and Level 1 are fine for now, but where do we go next? I don't love level 2 of HO and SWB's next series is for high school Thoughts?
  14. I have an upcoming 3rd and 5th grader. They are very close in skill and I want to keep them combined. We have decided on Guest Hollow Language Arts w/ Beowulf's Grammar, Math Lessons for a Living Education, Beast Academy for challenge, Sassafras Science and BSGFAA. I'm not sure what I want to do for history. We have a very busy schedule and I work from home. I want something for history that can be split up to do history 2-3 days a week and something that is fun. History is not their favorite. They much prefer science. We are using History Odyssey for now. If I can't find something else, we will likely just stick with it. I prefer mostly secular for history.
  15. So far, HO has worked better for my family. I'm doing level 1 ancients with my 4th and 2nd grader. There are quite a few hands on activities. The history pockets are fun too. It just depends on if you're kids will like the history pockets and such. :)
  16. This is exactly why I asked. I just don't get how it is a full curriculum.
  17. That I would use mainly workbook curricula for the 3 R's. We switched math, reading and language arts to CLE due to me working from home for a short time. For now, it's working wonderfully. My 4th and 2nd grader both work on these subjects during my work hours each morning. They come to me with any questions and for help. This leaves us free to use more hands on options for history, science and geography. It wouldn't all get done any other way. All this to say, don't count anything out until you've tried it. :)
  18. Can anyone tell me how this curriculum works? I can't seem to get a feel for what a day looks like. Do you enjoy it? I would be looking at it for a 2nd and 4th grader.
