  1. Oy, I so wish my girl was at this point. If you wouldn’t mind responding to my other thread, that would be awesome. She has a hard time with workload, so I am trying to work her up to these things.
  2. Thank you! That sounds like it would be simple. My oldest is in 6th. She wants to do a unit study we found revolving around the Percy Jackson books, but I also want her to get a sweep through history.
  3. How do you use this for middle school? Just read and narrate?
  4. It’s been a heck of a couple we’ll-intentioned years. I’ve got to figure out what to do to get us back to where we need to be. I have girls in 4th and 6th. My youngest is turning 10 next week and my oldest will be 12 in January. We started this year using MB for about a month and then tried out a public hybrid school. We hated it and pulled right back out. We started using Power Homeschool since we were about to go on vacation and I didn’t have time for any other plans. We went on vacation and then came home to find out my mom is in kidney failure with stage 5 chronic kidney disease. On top of that, I ended up in the ER where they found a softball sized mass on my ovary. I had my surgery about 4 weeks ago and am now getting antsy about school. I feel like they are just on screens so much. It’s not what I wanted for school at all. We’ve always homeschooled minus the 3 days at the hybrid school. Lol! I So here’s what we are doing: 6th grader: Acellus for various subjects (including coding), Teaching Textbooks 6, and Essentials in Writing 6. I do like EIW and I feel like TT works for this child well. She is very math phobic and finally seems to be getting things. 4th grader: Acellus for main subjects and Teaching Textbooks 4 (honestly, TT seems to be way below her level, but she seems to enjoy it. I would be open to be math options for her. She has pretty much done well with any math put in front of her. I do have spelling here that she could use.) Okay, so my initial thoughts were to finish RSO Chemistry with both of them unless Physics would be more suited for my oldest. I have most of the components of SOTW 2. Is there anything I could use to beef that up for my oldest? After that, I need some suggestions on some math and LA please and thank you. Is EIW enough?? If it is, I will gladly buy EIW 4 or 5 for my youngest. She said she will use whatever I buy though. Sidenote: My oldest really struggles with workload. I have to be very careful to not overwhelm her. She is ADHD. CLE would most certainly bring on a crying fit that could be heard around the world. 😂
  5. Is there anything besides WWE that could help prep her for WWS since she is likely in between?
  6. How hard is it to jump into Writing with Skill without having done WWE? My daughter is going into 6th and i’m Looking into this for her. Not a lot of formal writing instruction, but she enjoys writing and understands the basics.
  7. Can you help me understand this program some more? I'm looking for something that doesn't have a lot of busywork. I have a 4th and 6th grader next year and have no clue where I would even begin to put them in this program. What does a typical day look like with MCT? I can't seem to get a feel for it from the samples.
  8. I’ve never heard of Draw the USA! Thanks! I’m going to have to give BYL a look too. We are doing American history as well.
  9. How have I never heard of the Discover 4 Yourself studies?? Thanks for mentioning it!
  10. Masterbooks took and combined the smaller books into 4 volumes of full year science course. They changed the format some and also added a TG with worksheets that accompany the text. They have samples on their website of both the text and TG.
  11. Yes, I didn't realize that it could be used with middle school. I'll have to look at it. I don't think my rising 6th grader would be ready for it yet though.
  12. These are only for the high school courses.
  13. We are using it right now and enjoying it so far. The conversational writing seems to help them retain so much more than they were with other things. We plan to finish out the series and then move on to World's Story whenever we finish. I thought about moving my oldest on already, but I spoke to the author and she is in the process of writing a plan to utilize World's Story for high school with added resources.
  14. I have a 4th and 6th grader coming up for the new school year. I feel like we really need to work on writing. Help me choose please. I like Write Shop, but their level is too teacher intensive for me. I don’t like IEW. They have done some Winning with Writing this year. It’s okay but the way it’s set up get’s o,d after a while. I’ve been looking at EIW and Writing & Rhetoric lately. I have also looked at Treasured Conversations some for my 4th grader. Would it be too young for my 6th grader?? Anything else I need to look at?
  15. My youngest will be starting 4th. Math: Acellus 4th/5th and MLFLE 4th/5th LA: Writing & Rhetoric, not sure on Grammar, Soaring with Spelling, good books History: America’s Story 2 Science: Masterbooks Elementary Anatomy Coding: Acellus Coding PE: Dance i’m sure I have forgotten something. 🤷‍♀️
  16. I couldn’t find a 4th Grade thread, so let’s start one. What are you using for 4th in the new school year!
  17. My oldest is gong into 6th. 😢 She can’t handle a heavy workload so I have to be careful to not overload her. Math: We’re doing a mix of math on Acellus and Math Lessons for a Living Education. I may end up picking just one for 6th. 🤷‍♀️ LA: Writing & Rhetoric, Good Books and undecided on grammar History: America’s Story 2 (with younger sister) along with good books to read Geography: Masterbooks Elementary Geography Science: Masterbooks Elementary Anatomy and Acellus (the girls picked the anatomy course) Coding: Intro to Coding on Acellus we discovered Acellus during a horrible health crisis of mine. The math has been amazing for my oldest. They teach many different methods for one concept. MLFLE is shirt and sweet enough that she has no issue doing both. I guess we’ll see how this year goes.
  18. I have talked to her some. Her advice was to keep plugging away. I’m afraid she will just her further behind at this point though.
  19. What about the issues with remembering the processes for larger problems? I can definitely work on the times tables, but we have been doing that for two years now.
  20. My daughter will be 11 in January and is in 5th grade. Math started getting hard for her in 3rd grade. She does not have dyslexia at all. She does have some severe math anxiety and possible signs of dycalculia though. She can’t seem to memorize her facts at all, so as you can imagine any math we are doing now is just getting harder and harder. I do allow her to use multiplication charts but I’m wonder if there’s a better way. We have tried a ton. We did mostly CLE in the early years after dabbling in Singapore. Singapore methods were just hard for her. After pushing with CLE, I finally gave in and tried Math Lessons for a Living Education. She has definitely come farther using this program than anything. It took away some of the anxiety. Here we are now with multiplication still not memorized two years later. We drill, play Reflex math, play Prodigy and copy the facts. It’s just not sticking. I recently started looking at MUS Gamma and am very much considering taking a break from MLFLE to let her at least go through Gamma and see if it will help the facts stick. It’s such an expensive move though. Any suggestions? Should I give MUS a go for this child???
  21. It is quite schooly. That may be what we need at this point unfortunately. Working from home complicates things. So do the prices of the dvd course options.
  22. I guess I really don’t understand the program style of writing instruction. It looks mor like narration than anything in the early books (and I suppose that’s what it is). I’m just trying to make sure i’m Not missing something when looking at it.
  23. Please explain this program to me? I’m trying to really understand how the instruction works here. I’m super torn on writing for my girls. They are going into 3rd and 5th. I’m not certain that this will be the right program, but it definitely teaches the writing process. CAP just looks more pleasing to the eye. Please help me! What am I missing with CAP? It seems to be popular.
  24. When can I expect to see another sale on their self paced courses?
  25. Yes, I feel the same way when looking at it. Thank you! This helps!
