  1. You’re right. I’m sorry. I could have sworn I saw it, but I had also just woken up after working 36 hours I. 3 days, so my bad. 😂 CLE does have a TM, but I’m not sure if that is in there or not. It’s been a while since we used it. Many math curricula assume that you have learned things in previous levels and leave out instruction used in lower levels. This isn’t just a CLE thing.
  2. Just an FYI everyone. CLE absolutely teaches to multiply both the top and bottom and why. It was in Light unit 307. The 400 level is assuming you have already even taught that or been through their program. See this sample from 307 to see how it was taught. https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/prod-clp-files/public/documents/2654/original/Math_307.pdf
  3. Yes, we have started doing this actually. I’m just not certain that TT was the right decision for her. 😕
  4. The very first time, she was in Primer. That went fine, but she was very young. The last time we tried she was upset because I bought Gamma and she felt that it was for third graders (this was last year in 5th). She mastered what I was worried about though. I called MUS to see where she would place and they told me to go with Zeta if we switched, but Epsilon seems to have good stuff in it.
  5. I honestly have no clue what I want to use for higher math or what’s out there. I know that Saxon makes me want to vomit in my mouth a little, although it might be good. Lol! What options are out there for high school math??
  6. I’ve got to stop flip flopping. I’ve got to put my foot down and just stick one program. My oldest is almost 12 and is very Math phobic. We’ve been all around the block. Almost everything can lead to wailing and gnashing of teeth. I need something to just get it done. I would love if it worked on developing more number sense-though she is getting there. She has trouble with busy pages and heavy work loads. We tend to do math on the white board honestly. She does better with things that are straightforward, but I’m okay moving to something conceptual. Please help me! Ask away to help me narrow things down. We’ve done pretty much everything, Singapore (last she did was in 2A and it was actually going well-I was just worried about the scope and sequence and her forgetting things), CLE (we did this quite a bit and I swear she hates it-so many pages-it is good though for drill and kill), MUS (very briefly, she found it blah), Math Lessons for a Living Education (this lasted for a bit but level 6 was just more of what we did in level 5 and she started bucking her heels at this). Oh goodness, that’s a lot. We recently tried TT, but I’m not convinced it’s the best for her and level 6 seems to have had nothing new so far. Help please!
  7. Is this really enough to use as your only math curriculum from Fractions on up? I have a child that wants to use Fred as her only curriculum, and I’m struggling to believe that it’s enough. It looks great, don’t get me wrong. I worry about it being enough practice. She is so into it though. She has used only that this week and absolutely loves it. If she was to use just it, we would definitely get the Zillions books. I’m just so torn and wanted opinions from others.
  8. Thank you so much Lori! So I have EIW for both my girls already. They haven’t quite gotten to the writing portion, so we will definitely see how that goes. They are also doing an outlining book mentioned on another post. I think we will look at some of those super sentences books too and see what might help. I’m still curious about Treasured Conversations and am tempted to give it a shot too. I agree that WWS is still too much for her. She struggles with organization and work load in general. She is the poster child of a girl with ADHD. 😂 i’m Really just trying my best to get her to her own best. She’s very bright but definitely lacks in some maturity in many areas. She struggles with handwriting too, so we really need to work on typing.
  9. Do you have any suggestions on programs that are good for helping me guide them through this? I'm a natural writer, and I find that because of that I often have unrealistic expectations on where they should be as far as writing goes. I was writing short stories at 6 years old that were several pages long, so my experience is very much not the norm. I'm not for sure that EIW is the best resource for what we I'm wanting to accomplish. I think my main concern is that it's light in grammar. I'm not completely sure that I'm correct in thinking that though. I think I'm just feeling the time crunch of being so close to those looming high school years.
  10. We need a major overhaul on grammar and writing. I'm just so saddened working with my oldest (almost 12) in Essentials in Writing. I feel like I've literally failed her. She speaks correctly, but it just doesn't translate to her writing at all. Her major issues are fragments and run-on sentences. She also has issues with forming a paragraph properly. She does better when we walk through it, but she really needs to learn how to move through these skills on her own. I'm at the point that I'm not sure what the best approach is. I thought I would get some suggestions before having my youngest actually write in her brand new copy of EIW 4. I really need to figure something out and then just stick with it. I don't have any other options on hand and not a huge budget to work with, so keep that in mind please. I can sell what we have to help fund what I need though. As far as goals, I want to work on proper sentence structure, mechanics, and proper paragraph formation. I feel like we really can't move past that until she can write a proper paragraph on her own. I would rather take our time to get this skill down. Teaching the 5 paragraph essay will be much easier if we can just get paragraph structure and mechanics down. TIA!
  11. She changed the name and it's on her website. https://treasuredconversations.com/product/teaching-writing-through-guided-analysis/
  12. I'll look at these options. I'm not sure what to do for her honestly. At this point in the curriculum, she's hasn't reached the composition point really. She is still in the section going over grammar. EIW goes through grammar first and then composition during the last half or third of the book. This assignment was focused on underlining and using quotations marks for books/stories.
  13. I agree with you. We've worked on grammar every single year. It's just not seeming to translate into her own writing. I agree with thinking the assignment in general is silly. I'm not sure what the best approach is for her. 😕 Writing is our nemesis.
  14. Thoughts on this please? I feel like she tries so hard to make her Writing interesting that she doesn’t pay attention to fragments and run-on sentences (notice the fragment in this paragraph. Does this look like an 11 year old’s assignment? This is from EIW 6 btw.
  15. Hi! I have a few questions about writing and this particular program. I currently have Essentials in Writing 4 & 6. I was curious if Treasured Conversations could be used for both of these ages though. My oldest can write, but she definitely needs help with staying focused on a topic in her paragraphs/sentences. Things tend to run together. Would EIW work better for this or something else?
  16. Hi all! Does anyone have a favorite lit guide for Lightning Thief? My daughter is wanting to do more with this series, so I thought I would check with others. Thanks!
  17. I work in the AM. That is pretty much how we are running out and then I help as needed.
  18. I know there are other moms out there that do this. How do you make it work for you? I’m just in a hard season and am looking to refresh things. I work 25-30 hours a week from home. Normal hours are 6-11. We try to do as much as we can when I am working. I was using Power Homeschool, but am trying to transition back to books with some online resources sprinkled in.
  19. Are there any good step by step resources for teaching my daughter to outline what she reads? I’m wanting to use SOTW with both my girls and add in K12’s Human Odyssey for my 6th grader. I would like to introduce outlining to her, but I’m not sure where to start. Help please? We use EIW for writing, but this isn’t something covered.

  21. My oldest may not be ready for pre-algebra in 7th. She is math phobic and has struggled, but things are starting to click. She just recently started TT, but i’m Just not certain it’s the best option. I think there may be something else out there that could accomplish things in less problems. I don’t know though. She would fit in MM 5 or Singapore 5 to give you an idea. This is a big help. I’m not sure what I want to do with her science wise yet. I’m still trying to figure that out. We have EIW for LA and it only does grammar or writing. We may try AG next year. It was on my list.
  22. Is your child doing TT at grade level? Or a grade up?
