  1. Wow is all I can say! Thank you so much for all of the hard work that went into creating this. It is much appreciated. I can't wait to implement this with my sons. I pray it will be the answer we are looking for when it comes to writing.
  2. Could you tell me more about the free DVD option for Saxon? I haven't come a crossed it yet in my research. Thanks!
  3. Thank you all for the replies. I was just curious if it was something that could be done,
  4. Has anyone ever taken their son's boy scout merit badges and turned it into an elective on their transcripts? I was just curious if this was possible and if so how did you assign it? Teresa

  6. Thanks for your reply EKS. I will keep this in mind.
  7. I am really quite impressed with The American Odyssey textbook. We are using it for my 9th grade son. I have browsed the forums and found where a previous poster had come up with additional resources to use alongside the text. My question is for those that have used the text, how do you assess what your student has learned? I have tried googling American History questions but I seem to keep coming up empty handed. Right now I am reading the text myself and coming up with questions, but I was hoping to find an easier route. Anyone have any suggestions on what they have used? Thanks in advance!
  8. I can't say enough good things about this book. It truly will make you stop and think about our greatest generation and their experience in the war. Both of my boys and I absolutely loved this book. We plan to see the movie when it comes out at Christmas. I know it can't compare to the book but still it looks really good.
  9. My 9th grade son would really like a more hands-on biology/anatomy type of science, one preferably with lots of dissection. We are in the process of pulling him out of online public school where he has grown to absolutely hate science. Any suggestions of a curriculum with lots of hands-on experiments? Thank you!
  10. We are in the process of pulling our sons out of online public school where they have grown to hate science. I am looking for suggestions for a really hands-on science curriculum for my 6th grade son. I asked him what type of science he would enjoy learning and his suggestion is any that he could "blow things up" :001_rolleyes: So I am thinking a chemistry curriculum would be the direction I need to look. Any suggestions?
  11. I get the same feelings sometimes. I keep getting myself bog down in curriculum choices. Then when I finally make a choice I seem to always find something that just doesn't feel right with it. I find myself thinking about how people taught their students in the days of one room schoolhouses. The days when teachers may not have much formal education or curriculum to teach with but were still able to get the job done. If they could do it then, surely I could do it now. Sometimes I think having so many choices is detrimental to a mother's psyche!
  12. Well what do you know, I can save as a pdf in Word. Thanks dmmetler! I never would have even thought to check see if I could do that. Thanks to everyone else too who gave me suggestions. :)
  13. What is a safe Word to Pdf converter that is virus free? I have googled and tried to download 2 different versions but my anti-virus stops it because it contains malware or a virus. Any suggestions?
  14. Thanks again for more advice. Today was a good day with his writing. We did mixed up sentences. He liked putting the sentences in order and then copying them. We also did sentences that were missing either a subject or verb and he had to come up with his own to fill in the blank. Then he would copy those. Not nearly as stressful and he actually said they were fun. Maybe I am on to something for now. I have bookmarked all the links that everyone suggested for later reading.
  15. Thanks everyone for the advice. Maybe I didn't quite make myself as clear as I wanted too. I am really not expecting him to write stories per say but to just write. Just getting him to write a sentence naming his favorite tv show or writing the name of his pet sends him into a tailspin. I guess I am not looking for a writing curriculum as much as ways to just get him comfortable writing anything. He literally freaks out when I say lets make up a sentence using that spelling word.
  16. Does anyone have a curriculum suggestion for a reluctant to write 9 year old boy? My son hates to write. It is almost like he freezes up when I have him work on making up a story. I try to give him prompts and ideas but he just won't write. I tell him that it does not matter about spelling just write the words the way he thinks they sound. (His spelling is a whole other story that we are tackling with AAS and lots of sight word spelling practice). I just want him to begin to write for enjoyment not even as school work. Anyone have any suggestions? Is there any type of free curriculum online for writing help? I have been googling but have not been able to find very much. TIA!
  17. Thank you thank you thank you!!! I just logged on to the boards to search for more information about ACS Middle School Chemistry. I just heard of it last night and checked it out. It looks AWESOME! I was curious to see how much it would cost to get it printed out through Staples - $65 and that was only with getting it hole punched and nothing else. When I saw your link for where you got it printed I about did cartwheels! I can stomach that price a lot better!:001_smile: Teresa
  18. Thank you so much for starting this thread. It has some really interesting ideas that I am hoping to implement. I hope others will chime in with more ideas.
  19. I would really like to hear opinions on this program. My son is 9 and struggling to read and spell. We have worked with Phonics Pathways but he is not a big fan of "the book". We have worked with Explode the Code (level 3 1/2 right now) and he has done well with those but I am looking for something more. I am beginning to feel like there might be an underlying learning disability. We have had his eyes checked by a pediatric opthamologist and everything was fine. My head is swimming looking at all of the reading curriculums available. I want a daily lesson plan that will tell me how to work with him each day. Something about Phonics Road caught my eye and I was hoping that this would be what I am looking for. If anyone has other suggestions I would love to hear those too! Thank you! Teresa
  20. Thank you to the original poster for posting this question. This is exactly why I came to this forum. I would like a curriculum like Sonlight that tells me what to do each day. I get so caught up in planning and trying to come up with new ideas I get flat out overwhelmed!
