  1. I also purchased something from her and haven't received my books, nor have I heard back from her. I PM'd her at the end of February, so it was well before the last time she logged in. Thankfully I didn't use the personal tab, so if I don't get my books soon, I'm filing a complaint. I do want to give her the benefit of the doubt, but the OP spoke with someone that was scammed a while back, but didn't leave negative feedback because she was scared it would be reciprocated. How does that work, btw? If I paid, can she leave negative feedback for me?

     

    Three years ago I left negative feedback here because the person didn't send my stuff, she kept saying she would. I knew that most likely she was going to come right back at me and leave me negative feedback as well (even though I paid her promptly) and she did. But I left the feedback anyway because I didn't want anyone else to go through what I did.

  2. I love MFW but so far haven't been able to make it work here at Homeschooling6. I have owned every, single, program from the Pre-K, K, 1st and Grades 2-8. I did complete Adventures and ECC and part of K & 1st with some of my dc.

     

    I still plan to use MFW for high school with Annette :blush:. Not sure about the boys, since what we are using now is working with them.

  3. My dd ( she is 12, in 6th grade) has finished Season 1 of Analytical Grammar and has started Season 2. She will continue with Season 3 through the summer. With Season 1 on the test she would score anywhere from a B- to an A. Season 2 so far she is scoring between a B- and a solid B.

     

    I'm wondering since she will have completed all three seasons of Analytical Grammar by Sept. when we she will start 7th grade, which R&S English should I place her? Level 5 or 6? She does well in grammar and enjoys all the diagramming. Before deciding on R&S I was going to have her use Shurley along with her brothers and she would have placed in Shurley English 6 or 7. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case it helps with my situation.

  4. Ah...gotcha! Well, HOD would provide the opportunity for "some" of your kids to work together. A 9th grader using RtR (if you went with CtC in 8th) would require some "beefing" to make it credit worthy but the HOD message board has some wonderful ideas on how to do that if you decided to go that route. Personally, I would find it difficult to keep my dc together once they reach high school. It's a whole different ball game. I'm sure it is possible, but for me it sounds difficult. ;) That being said (just to make your decision that much harder)...I really, really LOVE MFW for high school! My 10th grader used AHL last year and is in WHL this year and I have already purchased US1 for next year. She does everything almost 100% independently, but we do meet regularly to discuss the books, check her work in math, science, etc. and help with writing assignments. She LOVES having separate work from your "little siblings" (even though my next oldest will be in high school next year, too ;)), I don't look high school as when I have worked myself out of a job...rather that my "job" has changed. I am now "coach" or "mentor" rather than "teacher" and "instructor" (or drill sargent as my kids might think sometimes :tongue_smilie:). I'm not trying to dissuade you from trying to combine through high school, but I would encourage you to take a look at MFW high school programs. :)

     

    Sue, I am glad to hear that you are very happy with MFW for high schol. My dd Annette, will use Res. to Ref. next year for 7th grade and Rev. to Rev. for 8th. My plan is to then switch to MFW for high school because I don't want to beef up the latest guide (MtMM). I just want the easiest route :tongue_smilie: where everything is laid out for me. I don't have the energy to beef a guide. Besides MFW's high school programs look so good. I want at least one of my children to use it:D

  5. As a previous poster stated, I'd check the placement chart. With the three year old and and K student, would Little Hand to Heaven be an option for you? It states the ages from 2-5.

     

    With Little Hearts I've read that some will use it two years in a row because there are options to use it as K or 1st.

     

    Currently I am using Little Hearts with my 7yr., Beyond with my 9yr., and Preparing with my 10 and 11 year old boys. What I did to make it not so *overwhelming for me, I started Beyond in December, Preparing in January and just added in Little Hearts last week.

    Your schedule looks GREAT. It hasn't worked for me yet. Admittedly, I think the main reason has been that we are spending a lot of time on character issues and child training this year. My 2-year-old wrecks the day quite often as well :D. Bless his little heart....he won't always be two and I will MISS having a little tornado underfoot. I also don't arise as early as I used to and I am s - l - o - w - l - y working my way back to an earlier schedule. I've needed to sleep in this school year as my energy levels have been working their way back to "normal" ( I was severely anemic at the beginning of the school year and I felt awful for months. It really wrecked the summer and first half of the school year...still haven't recovered from the wreckage :D).

     

    Blah blah blah. I need to get off of here and hang out with my hubby. :) It will be fun to hear if LHFHG goes well for you. It's not my cup of tea although my daughter did LOVE the Rhymes in Motion and the crafts :001_smile:. I hope your little guy just loves it and that it flows for you!

     

    I do miss those little tornado years. Can't believe my baby is 7 years old.

     

    I normally get up at 7:00, so we'll see how that goes. My problem is taking the time to eat a huge breakfast. Pancakes, cereal or even oatmeal doesn't keep me going. I know this sounds weird but when I eat some leftovers from supper, those are the days that go so much smoother. Mamas not a grump. Dinner for breakfast keeps me going until lunch.

     

    Katrina, I'll keep you in my prayers. I know from being very anemic one year how tiring it can be. It would be so hard to just get out of bed. My kids ate a lot of cheerios that year. Thankfully I wasn't homeschooling at the time. I had 4 kids under the age of 4 and was prego with Ethan. Going from one couch to the other was a lot of work :blush:.

    I wish I could run HOD the way you are doing and with all of the "extras" like Latin and AAS/AAR. Way to go Mama! :001_smile:

     

    Hi, Katrina, now that Lance, will have his own guide, I did have to change things up a bit. I pulled Brent and Caleb from their Latin class:tongue_smilie:, so I can start Preparing with them first thing at 8:00 a.m.

     

    Josh and Annette, will have to continue with Latin on their own. At 8:00 they meet and do it together.

     

    Hopefully in the summer or next school year Brent and Caleb can pick it up again. I am going to have them practice the Latin that they have learned, so they won't forget and can pick-up where they left off.

     

    As far as Little Hearts goes, I'm going to do what I can. If I don't finish everything in a day, I'll just pick-up where we left off. I may try to fit two days into one at least once a week. Maybe I can read and do some Bible on Sat. I'll have to see once I get started.

     

    Here is my block schedule;

    6:30~Mom wakes, showers, dresses, get coffee going.

    7:00~wake children, they dress, eat, brush teeth etc.

    8:00~I work with my Preparing boys, rotating box, storytime, history, Bible, and dictation if schedules. Get them started on their independent work.

    9:00~work with my oldest son Josh, English and Math

    Here is where it gets tricky, just depends on how long Joshua's 1-on-1 takes. Sometimes it's 30min. other days 40. So I'm going to use an hour. If we finish earlier, great, I'll move on or take a mini break.

    10:00~work with Ethan using Beyond

    11:00~work with Lance using Little Hearts and see if I can fit in phonics and math

    12:00~lunch

    1:00~Finish with my Preparing boys, usually at this time all they have left is English and spelling.

    2:00~Quiet time icon_mrgreen.gif We have a two hour quiet time five days a week.

    4:00~Play outside, finish any school work or find a comy spot to read.

     

    Block scheduling has really been a big hit with me this year. The above schedule is pretty much what it was before, excpet I am now starting with Preparing, and I put Little Hearts where Lance's phonics use to be (yikes). I'm going to see if I can do some of Little Hearts and AAR in that time slot.

  8. My 5th grader;

     

    HOD~Finish Preparing and start CtC. This includes, Bible, History, Science, Vocab., dictation, spelling.

     

    English~either continue with Shurley or start R&S. I'm not sure which route to go. We like Shurley but I would also like to use R&S jut to make using HOD that much easier.

     

    Math~TT6

     

    Spelling~AAS if we continue. This year I hope to finish level 3 and do level 4 over the summer.

     

    Latin~finish Latin Primer A.

  9. A few weeks or a month ago, I commented on a HOD thread that I didn't really care for the programs before Beyond (I had owned the guide at one time but didn't use it). Well, I'm here to update you all. I'll be starting Little Hearts on Monday with Lance :tongue_smilie:.

     

    I'm finding for my little guy that although Beyond was okay in the history and science department, his writing is not. He hasn't done any of the copywork so far. My main concern was having him start Bigger next school year and it being too difficult and frustrating for him.

     

    Now that I have the guide in front of me (again) I'm finding that I like it. I'm even looking forward to the Rhymes in Motion, I can't wait to start the Thornton Burgess books and the Bible portion look perfect for Lance.

     

    Lance, will continue with AAR and his own math. He is starting Little Hearts so late this year, that at least part of his 2nd grade year he'll still be using it. Because I will continue using Beyond and Preparing, I may use Little Hearts 4 days a week which will make it last longer (unless I can condense two days into one for some weeks). I plan to start him on R&S English 2 next year to continue challenging him.

  10. Here is what is covered in Bigger. We are in Week 27 of it. I would recommended Bigger over Preparing with a 2nd and 4th grader.

    This is what I'm doing. This year I'm using Beyond with my 7.5yr. 1st grader and 9.1yr. 3rd grader, so next year they will use Bigger, 2nd and 4th grade.

     

    With a new little one due and a toddler combining your dc in Bigger might be less stressful than running two guides. With the extensions you would have your 4th grader orally narrate to you, write a one paragraph summary, draw a picture with captions. You would choose a different one a few times a week.

    There is a schedule written in the apendix that you can copy.

    4 days a week they read about history and the 5th day about science.

  11. Can't believe my 2nd child is going to in 7th grade. Here is what I plan. A few things may change because I'm still up-in-the air about a few subjects. Depends if I can get the DVDs for BJ on those ones.

     

    History/Geography/Science/Vocab/~HOD Res. to Ref.

    Poetry/Dictation/Copywork/~HOD

    Literature~either DITHOR or Bob Jones (*depends if I can afford the DVDs for BJ)

    Writing~HOD IEW Medieval History-Based Writing Lessons

    Math~MUS or *Bob Jones 7th

    Grammar~either HOD via R&S/Shurley or *Bob Jones :tongue_smilie:.

    Latin~Latin Road

  12. I agree with Heart_Mom. I have read that Carrie has mentioned one can choose their own LA but from what I have read and seen of the upper guides (from samples, I only have Preparing) it looks like it would be hard to separate HOD's writing.

     

    Next year I plan to put my dd in Res. to Ref. and would have liked to continue using WWS but I'm going to let it go and use what HOD recommends. I think because HOD weaves the writing across the curriculum it just seems easier for me (Homeschooling6 mom:001_smile:) to use what is scheduled.

     

    One can always try it and see how it goes.

     

    I am currently using Preparing, the only thing I am adding to it is All About Spelling (and our own math). I think with Preparing you'd be able to get away with it though, just not sure with the upper levels after that.
