  1. My dd will use:

Heart of Dakota~Res. to Ref. This includes Bible, History, Science, Dictation, Copywork, Shakespeare Study, Art, and Writing.

    English~Rod and Staff English 6

    Physical Education~Family Time Fitness

    Literature~Lightning Literature 7

    Latin~Latin Road

Logic~from Critical Thinking, can't remember the name, but she requested to use them. I think it was Mind Benders :D

    Math~MUS~Zeta

    I think that's about it :)

  2. I know you mentioned both history and literature together but just thought I'd mention Lightning Literature. My dd who will be in 7th grade or I guess is a 7th grader now :001_huh: will use it once we start school.

Have you looked at My Father's World or Heart of Dakota? Those both provide history/literature. Easy Classical is another and America the Beautiful from Notgrass.

Again, dd us using HOD but not DITHOR since we have Lightning Literature.

    Blessings,

    Linda<><

  3. I would like to use Latin Road with my 14 year old ds but he still has trouble with grammar. Would this be too hard for him? He would use it with his younget 13 yr. old sister with me teaching it.

Another question, would they be able to watch the DVD with me and hopefully do the workbook pages without me?

I'm trying to figure out how to teach 6 children, 4 are struggling readers, so I'm needed a lot :tongue_smilie:

  4. With Ethan who will start Bigger in Sept. I decided to use Standard Based Grammar 3. There is also a Homeschool Edition too. Standards Based Grammar Homeschool Edition.I went with the 3rd grade one because Ethan hasn't really had any grammar yet.

There is no diagramming though but I don't want to start that with him right now. If you want diagramming Gowing with Grammar had Digging Into Diagramming.

Another option would be to use a higher level of R&S.

  5. Nope, with that being said, I do add things as I'm a part of the Schoolhouse Review Crew. For instance, when I was reviewing a Bible program, I stopped using HOD's Bible portion/box. If it wasn't for the reviews I wouldn't add a thing. Preparing is pretty full.

Before I was a reviewing I did use it as is (although I did add AAS because my boys are late readers and I wanted to make sure they had extra learning in that area)

  6. If you have used the TWSS syllabus in the past and/or viewed the DVDs, you most likely could do well with the theme-based material. The student guide and Student Resource Notebook (free download with purchase) are detailed about each dress-up or sentence opener.

I viewed them but it was five years ago. I have also used a few other programs that spring from IEW, so I'm really hoping that will be enough. I have some of his cds or mp3 and such.

  7. I am interested in using some of IEW's history and/or themed based writing programs this fall. I'm wondering if I can without purchasing the Teaching Writing: Structure Style set. I have owned the Structure and Style program in the past and I really don't want to purchase them again.

I know some-what about IEW style. I understand adding -ly words, dress-ups, keyword outlining and rewriting/telling from the KWO, banned words etc.

Would you attempt to use IEW's other products if not interested in the DVDs? Has anyone used some of their themed based programs this way?

  8. Really wish the science programs had ebooks, though! Oh well!

It looks like in the future they may.

Timeline and mapping resources, math, science programs, chess, as well as language arts for young learners and grades 7 and up are not available in an ebook format at this time. We will continue to add more ebook collections in the future.

I think this is a great step forward for the company.

  9. Here is my block schedule.

6:30~Mom wakes, showers, dresses, get coffee going.

7:00~wake children, they dress, eat, brush teeth etc.

8:00~I work with my Preparing boys, rotating box, storytime, history, Bible, and dictation if schedules. Get them started on their independent work.

9:00~work with my oldest son Josh, English and Math

Here is where it gets tricky, just depends on how long Joshua's 1-on-1 takes. Sometimes it's 30min. other days 40. So I'm going to use an hour. If we finish earlier, great, I'll move on or take a mini break.

    10:00~work with Ethan using Beyond

11:00~work with Lance using Little Hearts and see if I can fit in phonics and math

    12:00~lunch

1:00~Finish with my Preparing boys, usually at this time all they have left is English and spelling.

2:00~Quiet time icon_mrgreen.gif We have a two hour quiet time five days a week.

4:00~Play outside, finish any school work or find a comfy spot to read
