  1. I just don't know what to do. My daughter, who is 12 (6th grade), is on week 12 of WWS. Yesterday, she broke down crying and said, " I don't even know what I'm doing." I felt so bad for her, because she is such a good girl and always tries hard at school. I think she feels like she is "dumb" because she doesn't get it. I know that when she gets like this, the best thing to do is to put the book away for the day. But now, I don't know what to do. Should I make her struggle through it, or should I do something else? I was thinking of at least putting it away for the rest of the year, but what should she do till next year? Has this happened to any of you? Any suggestions for me? I am so amazed that some of you have 5th graders doing this curriculum. Thank you so much! Renee
  2. And how does it compare to MFW highschool LA. I'm mostly interested in the writing instruction. What are your thoughts? Thanks so much, Renee
  3. I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but will the second WWS book be available for the fall? Thanks so much! Renee
  4. I think this is AWESOME! Thanks so much for the link :) We will definitely be using this along with AAS. Renee
  5. Wow....I thought I was the only one who went through this every year.....I feel your pain! It takes some of the joy out of home schooling for me. Renee
  6. OK, I'm a little confused. If we use the 1st level this year and the next level does not come out next year, what are we supposed to use? The thing is, we really like it. The thought of switching curr. again next year....well, not so appealing. What to do, what to do......
  7. I didn't read all of the replies, so I am sorry if this is redundant. I never let them turn in sloppy work. Careless, sloppy work says a lot about the attitude and effort that went into the assignment. I'm not talking about when they are little and are just learning to write. I'll even make them erase a single letter or number if it is sloppy. They learn to take pride in their work and that it is important to always do your best. One thing I found that helped with this is cursive writing. It forces them to slow down and not rush through things. Just my 2 cents :) Renee
  8. Thank you all for your help. I never thought of You Tube! What a great idea. I am relieved :001_smile: Renee
  9. My son is doing Apologia Biology this year and we do not have the money to buy a microscope etc. for the experiments. What should I do? Anyone in the same boat? Renee
  10. Thank you OhElizabeth! I didn't think to look there :001_smile:
  11. My daughter has an assignment due tomorrow. Her book is not here yet, so the teacher copied off the pages she had to read etc. However, she lost the last page which had the questions she needs to have answered. Does any one have that book, and would you mind posting the questions for me? I don't know it this is against copyright laws etc.. so if it is....nevermind :001_smile: Here is her assignment: "Please read Chapter 1 in your textbooks, complete the Section Reviews on pages 9 & 16, and answer the Chapter Review-Content Questions on page 17." Thank you very much, Renee
  12. I know EXACTLY how you are feeling. :grouphug: This is the attitude I get from my 16yo. We did end up putting her into a Christian High school in 9th grade, and the truth is, it's better for her. She thrives on competition from the other students and does really well in this environment. This past year we moved in the middle of the school year and she had to be homeschooled. She was miserable. :glare: It makes me feel like a failure because I really wanted to be able to homeschool my kids all the way through high school. Now, we are paying a lot of money for her to take 3 classes at a local University Model School. We can't afford to send her full time, but this will take care of Math, Science, and English. With so many other children that need my attention, deep down inside I know that I can't give her what this school can. That is hard for me to accept. I'm not saying this is your situation, I'm just sharing with you my experience. I know very well what it is to feel "bad, and angry, and unappreciated, and frustrated." My heart goes out to you.
  13. I have a 5th grader that is on the young side. Could the first level of ALL be spread out over 5th and 6th grade if level two isn't done by next year? Or should I use the first level this year for 5th and do R&S for 6th? Thanks, Renee
  14. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer our questions. I'm really excited to start using the material. I just told DS I was writing to the author of "The Well Trained Mind" to which he replied, "Oh wow....you're talking to someone famous!" :D Thought you'd get a kick out of that. Renee
  15. Thank you, thank you, thank you.....That is what my "gut" was telling me after reading through the sample, but hearing you say that really gives me the confidence to go ahead and do it. :001_smile: One more thing: I have a 6th grader that I'm going to use it with too..... How would you explain to your 9th grader that he is doing the same writing as his sister in 6th grade? I mean, he is not "behind" or anything, actually he is pretty smart. How do I present this to him? Renee
  16. I know you said this is for 5th grade and up. What about a bright 9th grader who is VERY self directed, but who has not had a lot of writing practice. I could see him doing great with something like this because it is written to the student and very well explained ( I have the 20 week sample). However, is it too little too late? Or would it still benefit him to do the 4 levels (along with other writing) before college? Thank you so much! Renee
  17. I have these and can't decide which one to do......Have any of you done them both? How would you schedule it? Would that be way too much? What are your thoughts?
