  1. Thank you so much. Newbie HS'er here & the idea of putting together the timeline was making me a little nervous. This is such a tremendous help. I will be following your blog too:D
  2. Just wondering if anyone was able to successfully use noeo bio level 2 for a second grader (age 7/8). My son will be in 4th and level 1 would not challenge him. .I really only want to buy one level. Would it be easy enough to simplify down to her level? She is a fairly strong reader. Thanks for any tips or suggestions:001_smile:
  3. I will be using the Baltimore Catechism, books on the saints and teach Salvation History by using the bible. Have you read Laura Berquist's Designing Your Own Classic Curriculum? You may be familiar with her, I wasn't until I started researching homeschooling options this year. But she designed the curriculum and founded Mother Of Divine Grace Homeschooling program. Her approach is Catholic and classical. If you get on their website you can find the complete booklists that she uses for each grade for all classes. And you can also buy her lesson plans, even if you are not enrolled in the school program. For 4th grade religion she uses what I have above. She talks about how to use them in her book, which I bought used for $4. Emmanuel Books is a great catalog/website for her recommendations too.
  4. I will be using WWE with my 2nd grader in the fall.
  5. Thank you, I've been looking for my lefty son, I'm going to check this out. Just curious, does she use a pencil grip?
  6. Thank you so much for the suggestions & advice. I think in all my research to find the perfect curriuc, I kind of lost sight of the reason I'm homeschooling...I think I got a bit obsessive. I want my kids to enjoy this. As many of you suggested, I think I'm going to start with the basics in the fall & just try to make this summer about some fun learning experiences and good books.
  7. No, I guess i wrote that wrong in my siggie, those will be their grades when we begin this summer/fall. So, they will be 2nd, 4th & 8th when we start. I think MODG will have oldest doing medieval in 8th but she is a very independent learner. So I am hoping to still do ancients with 2nd & 4th graders. I've even read here that some people do SOTW 3 & 4 in one year. I think your right that I need to not worry about american history so much, I'm a product of the public schools too. I will look into Analytical Grammar for my oldest, thanks for the suggestion & all your help. So happy I found you all.:)
  8. Thank you so much. So, by "deschooling" do you mean getting them into a different frame of mind about school? Letting them discover there is a different way to learn and that it can be fun? Maybe if I do some american history this summer it will be read alouds, colorful encyclopedias, talking about it, some fun ipad apps etc.
  9. I'm new here & to homeschooling, we will be starting this summer. I've read TWTM on starting in the middle but still have this anxiety about not being caught up. I will mostly be following TWTM for my 9 & 7 year olds. For example I want to start history in the ancients using SOTW but then it will be 3-4 years before dc learn american history. So, my plan was to do a quick american history this summer, just covering the basics. Would this be over-kill? Any advice on a easy/basic american history book/program? Oldest DD will be using Mother of Divine Grace entirely, so she will be doing her "own thing" because I need the tutor & transcript support. I know she will be behind in grammar & writing, should I try to some extra this summer to get her caught up? or again is it over-kill? Maybe Latin this summer? Any advice would be awesome! Thank you.
  10. Thank you, I just bought the Greeks & Romans.:D
  11. My plan is very similar :001_smile: Math- Saxon 2 Grammar- PLL Writing-WWE 2 Phonics-Rod & Staff phonics. Reading-I wasn't going to do a formal reading lesson since we are doing PLL and literature along with our history study. Do you think that's ok? Handwriting- Have not decide yet. Prima Latina Spelling Workout- I noticed you don't have a spelling program, is it included with one of your R & S programs? This is my first year so I'm still learning.:) History- SOTW ancients along with Bible/Salvation history Science- no formal program- biology through living books, nature studies and science notebook. I love Usborne books for science at this age. I'd love any advice or suggestions. I'm so gratful found this forum.
