  1. It would depend on the age of the child. I think it would be difficult to do it without purchasing anything. I would do a lot of field trips and spend time in the library. Bonnie
  2. Remember that food is fuel for your body. Just like you wouldn't go on a road trip without gas in your car, you wouldn't want to exercise without food in your body. I usually eat both protein and carbs before a workout, and eat a little more protein after, with plenty of water before, during and after. I notice a difference in energy if i don't eat enough before i exercise. One hour before is a good rule of thumb. Bonnie
  3. http://www.half.com is another place I check. Locally, I like Half Price Books Bonnie
  4. Dried beans are a good choice, you can cook them in a crock pot then add rice and some cornbread to it for a great meal. Fresh fruits and veggies are inexpensive, and buying meat on sale is a good idea too. Bonnie
  5. WOW, those are expensive gifts, We usually budget $15 or under for friends birthdays and we don't try to go to them all. I think this is a good teaching time that friendship is not about buying expensive things for each other. It's about caring for the other person and showing them you love them. Bonnie
  6. For our first year of TOG, using Dialetic, we did the Core History reading only, supplemented with Story of the WOrld, because I had it on my shelf. We also did the maps, Bible and Literature. THe next year we added some Worldview and at time the in depth History reading. What we do is look at the Thinking and Accountability questions and also the treads for each week. From there, we pick where we will read from. SOmetimes I read to her from the teachers notes if we don't have a book that can answer the questions she needs. Your library will also have books on the subject , time period, or person in history and you can read from those to get the information. Tapestry is an AMAZING curriculum. Take your time and know that you know what is best for your child. There is SO Much in a week, you couldn't possibly do it all, NO ONE DOES! Blessings, Bonnie
  7. Tapestry of Grace is great for teaching several different grade levels at the same time. It is a FAVORITE for us. We also used Learning Adventures and My Fathers World. Bonnie
  8. For something fun, you could have him tell you his story and you write it down, or type it for him. Then you could go over it together and work on grammar, etc. Also, having him record his story on a tape recorder. Bonnie
  9. I think it's a good idea to teach them cursive, so that they can write their name but also so they can read cursive. With all of the word processing we do now, there is not a lot of cursive that they will use as adults, except for their signature. Bonnie
  10. My daughter has learning differences and I've only had a formal academic testing one time, and that was at the start of her 9th g. year. B
  11. You might want to take a look at Write Shop. It teaches all the writing elements. My daughter has improved so much in her writing since we've been using it.
