  1. Liberty's Kids on Netflix streaming Families of the World series (found lots of them at my library and picked them up today...Families of China, " of Brazil, " of Ghana, " of Mexico, etc...) Both of these I read about here.
  2. Heh. We'd have a problem, then. Dh and I are both over that. Plus kids. Plus luggage. You'd have to add the weight of all your camping gear, not just the original weight of the camper.
  3. :001_huh: No fun. I would never rinse in bleach water and then air dry. When I do soak in bleach water (it's just a little bit of bleach to a lot of water), I wash with fresh water and dish soap, and rinse in fresh water.
  4. We don't have a pop-up, but I'd like to get one someday (we use tents). We have a 2007 Odyssey. Looks like I'd have to talk dh into a extended cab truck, probably. I still have to talk him into the pop-up. :)
  5. I have no idea what book is actually being talked about here. Does this Jamie wear a kilt? :001_tt1:
  6. I would try to get it repaired, unless the old one is really old already. I'd check into repair on this, too. Look online for websites and videos about repairing the soap dispenser on your model or brand of dishwasher. Have a truckload of topsoil delivered. Fill in low areas. Raise the surface of your yard so that water runs off rather than stands. Make sure it runs away from the house. Do you have any scratch and dent stores near you? We went to a Sears Outlet store and bought our french door/bottom freezer fridge for about $600. It was dented in the back. It did need a repair after we had it for a couple of days, but it was covered 100%. I figured that if anything was wrong with the fridge as a result of the dent would show itself pretty quickly, and it did (it was the ice maker). The only dishwashers we've ever had were GE Profile and Profile Performance--they were both already in the houses we bought. I love them. The one in this house (the Profile) had a warranty recall, which involved a free repair. It was either that or we could receive a $150 credit toward a cheap GE dishwasher or a $300 credit toward a Profile or Profile Performance. Either way it would have cost us too much for a new dishwasher, so we opted to just get it fixed. The fix was to remove the insulation in the door, so it's noisier now, but works the same.
  7. I know I've read that somewhere, but not any of the books that have been mentioned so far. It was probably a bodice ripper. :tongue_smilie:
  8. In person? I know someone who wears overalls, but haven't seen it in person. She lives in MN and posts pictures occasionally on facebook. She farms.
  9. I'm 37 and I can hear it. I sometimes think I have hearing loss and would like to get my hearing checked. Maybe it's low sounds I have a problem with?
  10. Is it a cake mix, or from scratch? Are you putting the whole batch in one 8" pan? (I think I split a batch between 2 8" pans). How long and at what temp are you baking it?
  11. That would really depend on your kids and pets. My kids don't get into the dishwater. If I had a separate tub of bleach water that I didn't keep in the sink, it would still be up on a counter. When we had cats, they didn't get into our sinks. We did have one instance when dh was cleaning the jacuzzi tub at our previous house, and he had it about 1/3 full of bleach water. One of our cats jumped in--he couldn't see before he jumped that it had water in it. We rarely used the tub, so it was usually dry. The cat jumped back out and raced away. We called the vet and said the cat would be fine, just give him a rinse in a plain water bath. Which we did. And he didn't like.
  12. I've never heard of it, but I do use a bit of bleach in my dishwater if I'm washing dishes from something that went moldy in the fridge.
  13. Craft/sewing/school/office desk. I'd put all of that in.
  14. My mom got back to me, then I needed clarification, so it's taken a few days, but here's what she said. She said great grandma grated a raw potato into the sauerkraut before cooking it with sausage. She served it with potatoes, meat (don't know what kind--pork chops?) and a veggie on the side.
  15. Sounds great! I need to do that in my house too. We just finished a 2-day yard sale. Got a lot of stuff out of the house, made some money, and then took a van load of leftovers to the Goodwill truck. So glad it's gone! Still have a lot more work to do here, though.
  16. I would go if I thought the money was worth it. I sometimes turn down studies that I qualify for because it's too far to go for too little money (more often it's a study that involves going every day for 5 days and pays $10 a visit, or something like that. I'd rather get it all done in one shot, but some studies involve testing a product--I did a hair care one where I had to wash with a certain shampoo every day and go in to their office a couple of times).
  17. Dh and I signed up with 2-3 market research companies. When they contact us, it's because we're already in their database. These types of focus groups (small group--anywhere from 8-30 people), do sound like what you describe. The only way I can think of that this company got your name & number was from a friend or relative of yours who does studies with the company and gave your name. They sometimes are looking for a particular demographic and will ask us if we know any--for example--males age 24 to 35 who use such-and-such type of product.
  18. :iagree: The worst makeup advice I ever heard was at an Avon Beauty Consultant class where the instructor gave the opposite advice! :banghead: This book explains (and pictures) it well: Color Me Beautiful by Carole Jackson. The book is from 1987, so you'll see outdated clothing, but it gives accurate color advice. I don't see an updated edition of the book. ETA: I guess the update would be this one, different author, but same company, I guess.
  19. This is what we usually do. (manually, not with a program) This is what we do when it's not an important item for us, or it's not a super great deal.
  20. But apparently your idea of threatening is not the same as her idea of threatening.
  21. This is coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't have a dog (except from about K-6th grade), so I don't know if this will help: Do you have a "beware of dog" sign at your door? If not, I'd put one up (close to the doorbell or door knocker). Put some sort of hook-thingy in the wall near your door (even inside a coat closet), with a chain or leash attached to it. The other end of the leash would be used when someone comes to the door--the dog runs to the door, and you put her on the leash before opening the door. Make the chain/leash short enough to keep the dog from being able to get out the door.
