  1. It would be an acceptance deposit then a housing deposit. Both of which are refundable.
  2. My dd has a few acceptances, but has to wait until mid February for one of her top choices. She would like to deposit on another school before she hears in February to get a good choice for housing. The deposit is refundable at school B. Is there any problems that can occur by depositing on a school that she may not attend? Thanks for your insights!
  3. Mrs. Stublen is not using the same text from her previous school. She used Forester's with VP for Algebra II.
  4. My dd had Mrs. Stublen last year for Algebra II and it was her favorite class. She is following her to Wilson Hill for Trig/Pre-Calc this fall. I have met her personally and feel she is very in-tune with the student's strengths and weaknesses. She holds study sessions before tests and provides study guides that are submitted, but not graded. This holds the student accountable for studying. My daughter excelled in math with her.
  5. I do not know why there was a mass exodus of the favorite teachers. The cost is the same for math. The Omnibus material is being handled differently and will cost less than VP.
  6. My Dd took Algebra II with Mrs. Stublen this year at VP Scholars Academy on-line. Mrs. Stublen is fantastic and math is now my daughter's favorite subject. Mrs. Stublen is moving to Wilson Hill Academy for next year. She will be teaching Algebra II, Trig/Pre-Calc and Adv Calculus next year. My Dd is taking three of her classes at Wilson Hill next year due the teachers that have moved from VP to Wilson Hill.
  7. Foersters Algebra and Trigonometry would be a good follow-up to someone who liked Jacob's Algebra I. Foerester was a student of Jacob's. This follow-up can be used for 1 or 2 years of high school math. Algebra 2 and Trig/Pre-Calc. My dd is using this book with an online school and really likes it.
  8. My dh and I were there last Thanksgiving and had a great time. We were unsure due to the news reports from the US, but when we got there it was business as usual. A group trip is the best way. The tour guide was watching out for us. It was a trip of a lifetime and really brought the Bible to life. Israel watches out for its tourist, which is a big business for them. There are about 100,000 tourists in the country at all times. I would take clothing for a variety of weather conditions. I recommend travel insurance, but the only way you can use it is if the commercial airlines stop flying in to Israel or the State Department issues a travel warning.
  9. We have used/using Veritas and Potter's. Our past year at Potter's school, my dd took geometry and did not care for the teacher or their classroom environment. She felt like she had to self teach all the material and learned very little in class. We are using Potter's again for Advanced Chemistry due to few options available. We are hoping that the teacher is better. Others in our community are quite satisfied with Potter's. My daughter LOVES Veritas classes. She took just Omnibus I primary and secondary this past year. This coming year she is taking 5 classes through Veritas. She likes the classroom environment and the teachers so far. Their classes are challenging, but the teachers try to make it fun. We attended their end of year gathering and met many of the teachers. The students who received their diplomas through Veritas were accepted to selective colleges. Veritas twice a week format works much better than once a week at Potter's and for about the same money. Hope you find this helpful
  10. What is your opinion about including the essay with the ACT? Also, What type of child does better with the ACT vs SAT? Thanks Ellen
  11. A little off subject, but would you consider this math mastery or spiral? Thanks
  12. You do need the teacher's manual along with student materials. I have a downloaded form of the homophone book and plan to use it this fall. It looks good and easy to implement.
  13. I used Saxon 1 through 8/7 with dd. Saxon is a thorough program that covers money, time, calendar, facts, etc daily. My dd scored great on standardized tests. Math concepts/terminology is also included. It has a spiral approach.
  14. Rainbow resource has them for $14, but you need a $150 order for free shipping. I almost ordered them last week, but decided to use Runkle's for now.
