Mine is up and in my sig! I love spring!!

I think our boys (6 and almost 8) would love to start to study and do some robotics. Any ideas where I could start with them as I have no idea and I'm a bit overwhelmed with all of the choices out there, not to mention the prices!!

We haven't made them yet, but I will certainly show them to you when we do! Thanks so much for your help!

Mine is up, and my address is in my sig.
I am still recovering from surgery but I wanted to play. I thought about this one. It is almost two years old but it always makes me happy.

My boys want t-shirts made up for the next chess season. I asked them what they wanted to name their team and they said "Checkmate in Latin". I've been doing this great job on marketing and getting the boys excited about learning latin. They are so excited to start Latin they can hardly stand themselves!!

The first song in the Lyrical Life Science General Science curriculum is a great song on scientific method. My 4 year old can sing it. Even though she can't apply it, she can sing the whole process. You might want to use something like that as a supplement while you teach the "nuts and bolts".

This is a nice unit study book. I have it since we live on the coast. Most of the material is well above my kids but you might want to give it a try. There are no color photos, all illustrations. There is certainly more material for the Atlantic coast.

Barb,
My mind was working faster than my typing! I am thrilled with your Green Hour and see it as a way we can really start doing nature study. I am overwhelmed by nature study in general. Thank you for helping to make it more manageable.

Thank you everyone so much for the responses. I will join the weekly green blog. It is for some reason very overwhelming to me! I am going to start reading and see where it goes.

I'm sure there have to be some good suggestions for references for nature study. I was thinking that I would get the Comstock book, but what about others? What field guides are good for elementary? We are just starting with nature study and I need some guidance.

We have a bit of cabin fever and we are ready for summer!!

Thank you for the site. I will have to check it out soon. I know we are a while from doing dissections but I enjoy them and I think they will be a lot of fun with the kids.

That's great! Where did you get the cow's eye?

I just love listening to the monolouges from Prairie Home Companion. I never seem to catch the show on the radio, so I love listening to these. It is rare that one doesn't make me smile, laugh, cry, or all of the above.

We live in a small town and it's hard to find a lot of items. We have the amazon prime service so we can order with free two day shipping for many items. I don't order a lot of items from them but there are some things that I just can't get locally. The nearest big towns are at least an hour away and with gas so expensive, it works out well for us.

Ours is up, such as it is. The kids were sick most of the week. I'm not on the list here but I would like to be added.

We use Saxon and I am wondering how or why I should supplement with Singapore. I have read that this is something that a number of people do. My guess is that it is just a different way for them to "look" at math and therefore a different way to "think". Is this correct?
So, what do you use to supplement and how do you fit it into your schedule?

I left a comment on your blog. It is just amazing! Please post when you have more pictures.
Working and hsing? How do you manage?

Well this is how we do it...
My dh works full-time (7:30 am to 4:00 pm). Our children wake very early. We start "school" by 7 or 7:30. I give them assignments while I get breakfast ready and shower. We get Bible done during breakfast and then the boys practice music while I do the dishes and start supper. I cook a lot in the crock pot or things I can make ahead...and I LOVE my rice cooker!!
We get the rest of whatever done by about 12:15 to 12:30. The kids are still young so that is usually about all the time we need. We have activities almost every afternoon (music lessons, dance, karate, wrestling, chess lessons, soccer, you name it), so we break for lunch and that is usually (but not always) it for the academics. My dh comes home for lunch every day and by the time he leaves we are usually heading out the door. While we go from activity to activity, I play the SOTW CD's or our poerty memorization or some other something.
My dh gets off at 4 and can usually meet us by 4:15 or 4:30. I work every afternoon so he meets us wherever we are and takes the kids. I don't work a set number of hours, I just have to do what needs to be done and I never know what that is going to be until the last minute. I let dh know what needs to be done to finish supper and what, if any, things the kids need to finish up that afternoon.
I often miss dinner but we have eaten together as a family at lunch and I usually get home beofre the kids go to bed at 8:00 pm.
Then we just get up and do it all over again the next day! HTH
