  1. Our co-op uses it and I am considering it for my dd next year. Thanks!
  2. When we lived in Florida , I took my three ds to the beach and made a sand snowman. I decorated it with coal buttons, eyes, mouth, a hat ,and scarf. Then, I had the kids pose with it for a Christmas card. It turned out great!
  3. We have done the Essay Workshops and have been pleased with them. Does anyone have experience with the Spring semester Comp 3 class? I am considering it and would love to hear opinions. Thanks!
  4. Albert Marrin's book on the American Revolution has a very detailed account of the Boston Massacre and how Adam's defended the British.
  5. We are using Chemistry this year with the DVD's. Mr. Harmon is the teacher, and he is fantastic. I can't imagine using the books alone without the DVD's. We also used Physical Science with the same teacher. The only cons are: 1. It is expensive. 2. It is time consuming (45 minute lectures+ homework), 3. I have heard that the Physics teacher is not very good at all. However, I have also heard that Mr. Harmon is now teaching the Physics course, so the DVD's may become available soon.
  6. for those of you who take 3 semesters to complete CD Pre Calculus...what do you put on the transcript? Thanks!
  7. Thank you so much! I am using a different book and I am trying to match up the concepts.
  8. No, probably not...although I did come VERY close to having a James and Jane. We named her Mary instead.
  9. dd(15) is reading Hamlet and then will start John Adams by David McCullough ds(16) just finished The Alchemist and is beginning a bunch of Poe Tales, then he will read The Scarlett Letter
  10. My dd is in the 10th grade. She is in a co-op English class that she attends once a week. Her teacher requires 3 papers a week. She wants to see 10 pages, not per paper but total. For example, one paper may be 4 pages, one may be 3 pages, and the other 3 pages. Any combination is acceptable as long as 10 pages(typed, font 12) are turned in.
  11. My ds is taking Pre Calculus this year at our local co-op. They use both the BJU text, and the text Chalkdust uses. I am not sure how they will be combined the two, but it will be interesting to see. The teacher began with chapter 2 of the BJU text. I purchased the DVD's and had my son use them. I thought the explanations were very clear and so far,I am very glad I have those DVD's! Chalkdust is very good too. BJU does move a bit slower, but that is not a problem with us whatsoever!
  12. Just finished The Last Lecture and The Tears of a Giraffe. I am staring the next Ladies Detective Agency book (#4) and Angela's Ashes this week.
  13. My twin nephews both graduated from Davidson two years ago. One did the ROTC option and is now in Korea. Both of them have nothing but fond memories and wonderful things to say about their Davidson experience.
  14. I haven't read all the replies, so forgive me if I repeat. I have read quite few this summer. Here are my top five favorites: 1. The Glass Castle ( A memoir by Jeanette Walls) 2. The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan 3. The Help, Kathyrn Stockett 4. The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency, Mcall-Smith 5. The Chosen, Chaim Potok All of these were great reads!!
  15. My ds is a junior at GA Tech right now majoring in Computational Media. He loves the school. The math and science classes have been very rigorous, however they have taught him to work really hard. The required humanities classes such as political science, history, etc. have been just ok, rather easy. He says he hasn't learned a thing in those classes. The math, science, and computer science classes he has taken well make up for that!
  16. Finished What's So Amazing About Grace, by Phillip Yancey last week. I am currently reading The Chosen,by Chaim Potok . Then, it's on to 1066: Year of Conquest.
  17. Just finished The Glass Castle and The Joy Luck Club. I just began What's So Amazing About Grace? by Phillip Yancey
  18. Susan, Thanks for your replies! How was the instructor for BJU Pre Calculus? Were the explanations clear? How many homework problems per night? How were the tests ? Also, I do own the Chalkdust Pre Calculus DVD's. Would it be easy to synchronize them for additional instruction if need be? THanks so much!! Michelle
  19. We used the BJU DVD course and really enjoyed it! Mr. Harmon teaches the course and he is wonderful. Highly recommended!
  20. My oldest ds will be taking a few summer classes at college. My next ds just got his Red Cross Life Guard certification. He will be a CIT(counselor -in-training) at a camp in the NC mountains for a month, where he hopes to get waterfront duties. He will also swim for our neighborhood swim team in June. My dd will also swim for the team and practice driving,as she just get her Learner's Permit.
  21. My ds is just finishing 10th grade. He did: Algebra 2 (Saxon) BJU Biology (both with the DVD's and our co-op) Spanish I (BJU DVD's) Modern World History-Speilvogel & other books World Lit &Comp- books, study guides, & Write@home,plus some grammar&vocab Health- Total Health extras: swim team, guitar, art, piano My dd next year will do: BJU Economics/Notgrass Government Lit&Comp-assorted novels with "government" themes Oxford Latin I Bible class through co-op Chemistry (BJU DVD's) Geometry (TT) extras: piano, drama, art
  22. I married at 19 and had my son 8 months later(yes, do the math:). I am still married to the same man 21 years later and had two more kids before 25. I was in college at the time, and tried hard to finish, but, life just got in the way. Not having a college degree is one of my biggest regrets....especially now that I will most likely have to work after I am finished homeschooling. I love my life and am so grateful for how things worked out, but, I really, really, really, wish I could have had everything I have now but just have waited 3-4 years. And yes, this is a sentiment I have shared and will continue to share with my kids.
  23. My vote would be for either Speilvogel's The Human Odyssey, or BJU World History text.
