  1. You may only bring good things with you, such as nice bread, good cheese, a joke, some flowers (even if you picked them from the ditch - I don't care), a smile, even a half bottle of wine. You may stay out if you only have crap to offer to my happy place gathering. In my happy place you will find soothing colors like pale blues and greens, maybe some yellow (which I don't love, but it is pleasant). The air smells of lavender and roses, but not so much so it overwhelms. And I have really great, fluffy pillows. And fun jazz is softly playing in the background. Will you join me? Take a breath after the hectic holidays and relax...
  2. I'm sorry to hear that Elizabeth in MN is troubled. I missed the thread, so if anyone would like to fill me in, I would very much like to know what is going on with her. Thanks.
  3. I am so sorry. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  4. Maybe that's what I need to get me in the spirit - we've watched it every year and it always made me happy. The kids are queuing it up as we speak... Thanks!
  5. Of course I believe it is real. Mental illness is not a cookie cutter sort of thing. It's terribly unfortunate that the person who penned that particular book was a liar. The fact that the whole book/Hollywood thing has warped a legitimate issue is not a new thing, regardless of how rare that particular issue may be. No, I feel pretty positive it is an actual disorder.
  6. Family of 7 here (5 adults, 2 kids) and I can't even do that for a week (and the cook is vegetarian), and I live in a mid-range food cost area. Heading back to read the adivice...
  7. What will you be eating? Do you have a preference for sweet beverages? Without knowing those things, I would think a mixture would be a good place to start (Cab, Merlot, Syrah). Apothic is good as a pp suggested. So is Primal Roots.
  8. So far, so is the book. The kind where I'm waiting for the redemption of the characters so far introduced...and waiting...and waiting...
  9. So it doesn't get any better? Good grief; I'm only at Lillian Reardon's anniversary party and I want to beat the snot out of Dr. Pritchett for making me yawn, and Dagney for being such a pompous tool - is there saving grace somewhere in this big fat book for her?
  10. What do you think your dog is capable of doing? Do you think a bite is possible if provoked? When we had our Golden, if anyone had suggested something like that, it would have been absolutely laughable. However, I have learned since then that many Goldens have been inbred to a disgusting level (ours died from hip displaysia and genrally shotty bones at 5 years old), and that, sadly, territorial anger issues have been one of many noted results. While I don't have experience with that personally, it's something I wanted to share (I love Goldens - they are my favorite breed). With my own current dog, who is not a Golden, but where I can see the scenario you describe being a possibility, I might believe it, but I would need proof and I would need to know exactly what provoked her because I know she wouldn't bite anyone just for the sake of wanting something to bite.
  11. :lol: Dd is a giant fan of those two. Her fav of the mistranslations is
  12. I agree that you did the right thing. While I know that your dog shouldn't have bitten him (because he's *just* a dog and all), I do think that given his state of comfort and mind, he was just saying what he needed to say in the only way he knew to say it. I have been ill (headache, flu, whatever) and wanted to silence the nearest loud, boisterous individual - I would have to say it's probably a similar case with the dog; while I would use my angry voice, the dog used his own understood method to convey the same message. Sorry for your ds, though. I think it's sweet that he understands and apologized. :grouphug:
  13. :iagree: Don't feed the beasties - it only makes them grow. But, d@mn, I sure would like to say a whole bunch of things. :glare: Have a good, long heart to heart with your son - the kind that makes him understand what sort of person says such stupid, juvenile, pointless things. :grouphug:
  14. I have tried to watch that move three times over the past 25 years, and each time I have fallen asleep. But the pea soup bit I vividly remember - no need to look that one up; it's emblazoned in my memory. And it was thoroughly creepy. *Note to self - avoid the pea soup at all costs (at least a week in advance because I kind of like pea soup).
  15. Ack, I didn't think of that! :rolleyes:. But somehow, I don't think this is going to be the same as in the movies (and I had to look the reference up because I'm just not so savvy in the hollywood ways). Clever, though ;)
  16. Okay, your final line made me :lol:. But for the rest of it - are you suggesting I choose a priest based on his age? Choose one by interview...but ask what? I am honestly asking - I am the OP and regardless of what all the goofiness that is peppered throughout this thread may suggest, *I* am not taking this lightly. We have a priest in mind, combined with some things we plan to do on our own, but we don't know this fellow personally. Please PM me if you don't want to participate in the thread (I don't blame you one bit). Thank you.
  17. :iagree: At least, that's what ds (almost 13) is getting this year. For once, he actually wants something not electronics related, so we are getting him a jazz bass. If your ds is undecided this year, maybe music is an idea for him.
  18. Me too. And the rest of the story contributed to the convincing, as well as what I've heard here. But, for the most part, what you said. Thanks.
  19. We just found out some more info - the first order was small, about $16, and was the pkg we received today. The second order was for a gift card - in the amount of $64. :confused: At first I would assume that the gift card would show up in the mail, but then I started wondering about the other fraudulent email address. Does anyone have experience with eToys (I think it's Toys R Us)? Do those gift cards get mailed, or sent to an email address to be printed out and then used that way? What I don't completely understand is why the odd amount for a gift card. I guess if someone did that small awkward amount several times a day, it could add up, but, still. And why to a toy place? Why not to someplace that sells electronics or something so they could get something big if they are going to go to the trouble and risk spending time in jail? At least the amounts were small - some of you who had larger amounts...:grouphug:.
