  1. Does anyone know the Advanced Placement Exam NYS homeschool code? Did not get it and my daughter’s AP exam is tomorrow morning at 8am! need help please!
  2. She actually wanted to do the Advanced Bio, but it lists Chem as a prereq so I didn't think it was an option.
  3. Really in a quandry! DD-10th grade is 1/3 way through module B of videotext Alg. (Double concussions put us way behind last year!) Is that enough ALgebra to be thru to start Apologia Chem? she finished Bio and is on a standard college-prep path, so I don't know where to go to next w/ science if she can't do chem!! or should I use another chem program...really don't know what to do!! any help greatly appreciated
  4. Anyone done the 5 Regents test option for equivalency? If so, how did your child prepare and how did they find the tests to be?
  5. thanks Danielle..that helps- that's the course I was specifically looking at. {{bump}} for anyone else?
  6. Thanks Jackie, I will check them out. These others are textbook linked also, and open to the public. {{Bump}} for others' experiences?
  7. Such as NROC or MIT's, Yale's, etc. Has anyone used these as part of their HS curriculum? If so, Which one and what was your opinion?
  8. thanks for the info- that helps! re: the diploma, No. It's a NYS education law- "to ensure that degree candidates at colleges and universities in New York State demonstrate satisfactory preliminary education needed to obtain a college degree." One way is to- "Permit school district residents, including home instructed students, to take five specific Regents examinations or approved alternative examinations for the purpose of meeting the preliminary education requirement for earning a college degree, applicable to students beyond compulsory school age."
  9. For anyone in NYS who's had a child sit the Earth Science Regents: What text did you use? did you find it good prep?
  10. You all are wonderful and have truly helped so much! My sincerest thanks! Off to do more research!
  11. for those of you who BTDT: Is AP Gov't harder in prep/content than AP World History or AP Amer History? Here's why asking- Originally planned on doing this: 9th grade- AP global prep I 10th grade AP global Prep II- take AP exam 11th- AP Amer History 12th- AP Amer Gov't Why? cuz that's the progression at the PS HS. (makes testing situation easier and figured there might actually be a reasoning to the progression..) Now thinking of bumping AP Gov't to 9th grade as our homeschool Consortium is offering Economics/PIG this year and teacher has offered my motivated, take-charge daughter to take it at no tuition (I teach Acting/Improv w/ him and do not charge for my time, he wants to "reward" me for my altruism Want to take advantage of the offer, so what d'ya think? Looking at Sonlight core 400 (w/ supplements) to see if good prep for AP, opinions? TX in advance!!! Sharon Paluch
  12. Started out ok, but now looking into getting ours replaced- mic wires pulled right out of the circuit board inside the USB connect. Definite physical problem- Can hear, but can't speak!
  13. Hi all! Just obtained Spielvogel's Western Civ, but it's 3rd edition- 1997. Is it usable? Thanks! Sharon
  14. thank you all for the info- it does help a great deal! Fortunately, she does not seem to gravitate towards those "teen" books, but I do know what you mean. Mostly, it's those that tend to be good literature but I don't know the plots so not really sure if they're at her level of maturity. Off to check at those sites- Thanks for the help!! Sharon
  15. I have a 7th and 8th grader who have both done Latina Christiana I. Was going to have them do LCII and then continue on into Henle. They complained about LCI being too elementary. Should I just skip LCII and go right into Henle? Or would it be too challenging considering they're also starting Rosetta Stone Spanish? (I will have to buy LCII later for their younger sisters, so untimately I don't save $ either way) opinions requested! Thank you! Sharon
  16. DD-13 is and has always been a gifted and avid reader (eg. on vacation at the beach, I actually said "Please, put down King Lear and help your sisters build that sand castle!) She's always done w/ the Sonlight readers & read-alouds by Thanksgiving, and I think she plans on reading every volume in the local library ;) Having a dickens of a time (pun intended!) trying to keep ahead of her and determine what literature is appropriate- she may think she's going on 18, but still I want to protect her from inappropriate topics! She's far better read than I (course right now, she has more time!) Anyone know of any great books sites that may give synopsis of works, so I can at least preview what she's picking up to see what she's looking to read? TX! SHaron
  17. My twins, age 7, memorized the Gettysburd Address in entirety for their recitation class in co-op. Started in January- took 14 weeks as part of 1 hr long class. Thought the teacher was nuts in january, realized she was brilliant in June! 2 entire classes of antsy 6-8 yr olds were able to memorize it. We were amazed. I am a recitation convert! and it was virtually painless.
