  1. Debating between AIM academy ap world history and ap pa homeschoolers… any input? Wanting something that preps fully for the ap test as it is a first for this student!
  2. Yes! I am in the process of starting one up now. Happy to answer any questions. My best advice is to find a local conference and set that as a goal - then go recruiting participants. I set up a meeting schedule at our local library. I think without a conference on the books it would have been harder to explain and get everyone motivated. I also keep telling my crew that this is a student led, student run organization. I am advising heavier than I would in the future because we have no upperclassman who are experienced, but I’m intending to work myself right out of a job 🙂
  3. I’m looking (already for next year 🤦‍♀️) for a good “first AP” class for my daughter. My son has taken so many great classes through PA Homeschoolers, so I’m starting my search there. Does anyone have any experience with their AP Government or AP Comparative Government classes? Any teacher recommendations? AP World History? I want to make sure it covers the info thoroughly and also is a good first AP in that it helps teach how to structure responses, etc. I’ve searched the board but haven’t seen much come up on those three classes… If you have another class or provider recommendation, I’m all ears! I’m also considering (on the science side) AP environmental science and AP Biology…
  4. I feel like I’m really behind here - but our transcript lists courses by grade? I don’t have them broken out by subject header at all…should I be doing that?
  5. I just signed my child up for the ap pa homeschoolers honors English class. It’s not an AP - just saying that right off the bat since I know they mostly offer APs! No experience w this particular class, but every class my other students have done through ApPA has been top notch. I’ll be able to give a full review in spring!
  6. Any reviews on AP Comparative Government through PAHS? Or any other online provider?
  7. Thank you all!! This is very helpful! Hearing it’s so easy to get an approved syllabus approved makes me lean that way. Thanks again!
  8. I am just checking to make sure I’m correct in this… My son has taken AP classes through providers (PA AP for example) and so on his transcript I have them listed as “AP US History” or whatever. He is self studying for two AP classes next year. It is my understanding that I cannot list the classes on his transcript as AP, because I haven’t had a syllabus approved by the college board - is this correct? For those who have self studied and not had the course approved, did you note it as a credit in any way for the year, or was the AP test and score only listed under test scores? I was planning on giving him a credit for the class, but I am wondering how to label it. I also don’t *need* to list it as a credit if listing the test score is enough I guess… Thanks in advance for any advice!
  9. If you’re planning on working through aops cp/nt - I’d just use the free alcumus resource on the aops page. You can see and select which algebra topics (or cp/nt) topics you want to do, and it reports scores and moves on as the student answers correctly
  10. This may be a piggyback but what is the advantage of designing your own course to get it approved Vs just teaching the class but taking the AP test at the end of the year?
  11. Any reviews on AP PA Homeschoolers Honors English - Language Arts? I would like an online writing course for a student who isn’t quite ready for an AP - I want to shore up essay writing and I think non-mom input might help 😂. We’ve had great experiences in the past (with other students) with AP PA Homeschoolers, which is why I’m considering this class. I’d also love any other recommendations that would fit the bill!
  12. thank you so much for this review!!! I’m looking for a Chemistry class, but would prefer something asynchronous since it’s for a younger student. This sounds perfect!
  13. I might be the last one to know 😂 but I just read that AP Precalculus will be a new subject for the 2023-24 school year. I assume it is replacing honors Precalculus. Does anyone have any thoughts on this or plans to have their student take the AP?
  14. No experience with DO precalc, but just chiming in that we have had an issue with Algebra 1 honors problems on the homework and tests not being covered in the videos (although that didn’t happen til more than halfway through the semester it seems, but honestly a lot of it was review in the beginning for her so she just may not have noticed). My daughter is great at math, but not intuitive - she wants to be taught what to do and then she will. DO emailed us the practice problems from the back of the textbook with the answer key for all the odd ones, and having those has helped immensely. I ordered the textbook because of this. Now that I know, I’ll plan on doing that for his other classes as well.
