  1. I debated the typing course thing last year and ultimately just created a teacher account on typing.com - it’s free, it’s easy to access and my kids each have their own account. We started in September and do it probably 3 days a week for maybe 15-20 min and they are both up to 36 words per minute and typing their own papers now (this is a 3rd and 4th grader, no previous computer experience). Anyway- I know typing.com isn’t a particular exciting answer 🤣 but I debated typing programs too and I found the free easy one to be effective 🙂.
  2. Has anyone used the new editions of Ceasars English by MCT? How do you like it? Which materials did you buy - there are a lot of options on the website of extras and I’m not sure what is useful. Flash cards? Implementation manual? Do I need one student book per student (I have two). Thanks!
  3. I have no workbook suggestion but I’ve always done copywork out of phonics pathways and I like all about spelling for reenforcement at the same time
  4. Thank you all for replies! I really appreciate it. I thought I’d have a better grasp of which curriculum would fit this child better at this point, but I blinked and here we are! I am looking ino all these suggestions so thank you!
  5. I posted a very similar question the other day! I have a child that sounds similar - having come all the way through SM6. I will say, I’ve used aops with an older child and I don’t think it will be a good fit for this child which is why I’m not going to use it, so it might be similar for you. Question for you - are you planning on a pre algebra program after Singapore 6B or straight into algebra? Im not sure what I’ll end up doing but I’m considering math mammoth 7 and also Derek Owens (just not sure I want to outsource yet). Anyway, I’ll be following this to see what advice you get and what you decide!
  6. I have four microscopes - I have one my first duoscope, two of the baseline amscope ($86ish on amazon), and one from homesciencetools. My favorite by far is the amscope. Very solid, easy to use, great views. Highly recommend.
  7. I’ve read a million posts on this but I’m still confused! I have a child who has come up through Singapore standards through 6B (will finish end of 5th grade year so is ‘ahead’). Has always progressed in math slowly but steadily - the kind of kid who I feel like we struggle through chapters but it always ‘clicks’ later. I wouldn’t say has a natural number sense, and I’ve questioned if Singapore is the best fit for, but it’s what we have and what gets done. Ive used AOPS for older siblings for pre-algebra and beyond, but I’m not sure this is a good fit here. Siblings have completed Singapore textbook and workbook and also intensive practice and challenging word problems, and this child has only done textbook and workbook each year and that has been enough. What would you do for this child? What would you use? I feel like something with more repition and solid explanations (not discovery based) will serve child better, but I also want something strong.
  8. I have a question on this topic - does anyone know how the in state benefit applies if the GI bill has been transferred to multiple dependents and so won't be used for each year? We split it among our children and I'm wondering how this would affect their in state status - would they just be in state the first year if they used the GI bill but then not the remaining years?
