  1. Has anyone used this? We have used the CAT from Set on for K & 1st, and the IOWA for 2 & 3rd. I heard that the online version of the CAT is much harder then Setons version. That being said not sure if that would matter since dd has token the Iowa last. Any info or opinions appreciated.
  2. I'm in a similar predicament. We have used horizons up until now. She is just finishing up 3rd grade. Problem is she wants something that is more independent. I have used saxon in the past and she asked to use that. She took the placement and tested into 6/5. So I am going to let her use that along with books 1 to the key to series. With Horizons being so far ahead I would just make sure you do a placement test for whichever you decide.
  3. My My dd 8 is currently more than halfway through Horizons 3. This is our second year with Horizons and was going to continue using it for 4th. (somebody gave me Horizons 4) But we our hitting a wall and dd is in tears half the time. Problem is I have always been super hands on in teaching dd math going over the concepts first then giving her the work sheets. Lately she has been trying to be more independent and has voiced she would like something with more examples. I have looked at TT and thats not going to work for us. I like how Horizons is spiral and was thinking about CLE sor potentially Singapore and supplementing with Horizons 4. Has anybody switched from Horizons 3 to something else? Any CLE users can let me know if it has examples for the student to look at? Also at this point any suggestions or advice appreciated. Tanya
  4. This was my dd's (8) first time taking it. We got her results this morning at co-op she scored a 90% which got her a bronze! At first she frowned when she found out she got 3 wrong.......then when she got the bronze in her hands she was smiling ear to ear!
  5. Btw excuse my spelling, I didn't pay attention to the auto spell check...:-)
  6. Perhaps for some fun stuff I would through in: https://handsnhearts.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1 I think they are a great supplement for story of the world, especially since then you won't have to gather to much for the projects. I Would also pick and choose a couple of literature units from MBTP, I think they are great literature guides and are great for enrichment. http://www.movingbeyondthepage.com/purchase/languageArts.aspx?purchaseTab=Language%20Arts As for science I struggle with that one myself, but Nancy Larson Science & Elemental Science have intrigued me. No decisions for next year though...LOL!
  7. We used MCP Phonics, which had the little pull out books every 10 lessons or so. They weren't that tedious though. We did that and I just constantly read aloud with her watching as my finger went over each word.(frog & toad, James & the Giant Peach, ans so forth) Also starfall.com was a winner for us.
  8. Are talking about the "what your....should know" series? If so I am speaking of the History curriculum that Hirsch Published through Pearson. It has 12 units in the 4th grade level. They show the table of contents on their website, but no samples for level 4. http://www.pearsonhomeschool.com/index.cfm?locator=PS14Q2&PMDBSUBCATEGORYID=&PMDBSITEID=5041&PMDBSUBSOLUTIONID=&PMDBSOLUTIONID=36022&PMDBSUBJECTAREAID=&PMDBCATEGORYID=36028&PMDbProgramId=80924&elementType=programComponents I was only able to fine samples of 5 on Christian books. So any information is apreciated.
  9. Has anyone used this? If so what were your exeriences? Is it very teacher intensive or moderate? Did you feel it was meaty enough or did you find yourself supplementing? Any info would be helpful...as I am having a hard time finding any reviews.
  10. I am currently using the 8-10 level, but had inquired about the upper levels for my ds(13). Ds is now back in school, so that's why I didn't get it for him. Now what I can tell you is after 8-10 it makes the change from written strictly to the parent to student directed. Meaning the lessons are written to the student with a seperate parent overview to keep you in the loop. As for actual experience not much help there for above 8-10. I will have to say 8-10 is parent intensive but for the lit units we have got a feel for the pattern , I will go over the assigned chapters, she does the questions on her own, we go over the rest of the activites, and she does one or two on her own. I have decided to stick with the lit and social studies for next year because it seems she would most likely be capable of doing it on her own. Hope this helps if nobody is able to give you anymore answers I would call they are quite helpful and quick to answer any questions you may have.
  11. Hi all, I have been looking at science curriculums all day in hopes of something my dd 8 can do on her own next year. I found this and I am thinking this could be the one! Can anyone tell me when this came out? I am aware that they will be coming out with a total of 8 and I am wondering if the 2nd level would be out soon. Also she will be 4th next year. Would it be challenging enough or is it open ended where it could be as challenging as we want it? A little history....she reads at a 6-7th grade level, she enjoys doing research, and reading. We have done My Pals Science 3a & 3b last year and liked it but could not find 4a and 4b. We ended up trying MBTP science and I am not keeping up....too hands on for me right now! Any thoughts apreciated!
  12. Wondering the same.... I think we are going to use this for my dd 7.
  13. It's good to hear all of this feedback. I have been looking at this on and off since last year. I just took the plunge and bought the 8-10 last week. We started useing sonlight core B and I ended up barely following the schedule and using SOTW. My DD enjoyed more hands-on activities. That being said, I think MBTP would be a good fit for us with her. She will be 8 in October. She is writting paragraphs and completed her 1st book report last week. We will not be starting till the end of July. So I think she should be ok on this level. Any thoughts or advice?
  14. I am definitely enrolling my DS for 7 th and my DD for 3 rd grade this coming school year. I just spoke to them last week and they were very kind answering all my questions. The main reason for going to Kolbe is a combination of flexibility and rigor. I plan on just using their Lit, Composition, and religion for my DD. As for my DS I plan on substituting History,English, and possibly Science. Also FYI for anyone thinking about enrollment try to do it before May 1 st. I was told they are raising their prices. Not sure how much though.
  15. Thanks that is what I've been leaning towards 2b. But I will do some of the 2a to get her familiar.
  16. Okay so this year we tried Saxon 2 for my dd7 and it wasn't working for us so we started doing MM and it was doing the job.......then my computer crashed ! So I have been doing the second workbook for Horizons and going over each concept in detail. So she knows her math facts and multipication facts. We have covered time, money, and measurement. We are working on division. So my question is if we were to start MEP write now where should we start? I am super excited because I think this would be a great fit. Thanks in advance:001_smile:
  17. So I will just stick with my initial choice! It will probably be the better fit for us.
  18. We want to start Latin in spring and I came across these. I previously was deciding between Latina Christina and Latin for Kids. I was leaning more towards Latin for kids......then I saw these! I will be honest I only learned Latin roots so I do need a program that could be taught without any experience and does not need a lot of prep. Any info on any of these would be appreciated.
