  1. My daughter is in 1st grade and has done so great with learning her addition and subtraction math facts that I want to make something for her for summer to help her practice and not loose them with her summer break. I've contemplated continuing on to her next math book, but I think we both will need a break this summer and doing formal school during the summer I don't think will happen. (mommy needs a break) So I've been trying to find a way to continue practicing those math facts. I have some games planned for the summer. I'm planning of buying Tri-fact-a, Math war, and addition/subtraction Candlyland. Can you help me expand my game list? Some I can just buy and some I can make? I'm also going to make math fact practice worksheets. Either like the timed test ones (but I won't time them) or fun worksheets that only pracice addition or subtraction. I don't want to make them by hand if I don't have to. I've been looking around and I can't find any premade. ie. buy them already made. Does anyone know a great site to print them, or buy them already made? Or ideas of how you keep your kids skills up with out having to continue a math curriculum. I want her to have daily (5 days a week) practice. Thanks for the idea. Edited to add: Has anyone used Timez attack? The online game?

  6. What do you have your kids do over the summer so they don't forget the math facts they learned?
  7. My daughters on set 6 and loving them. She's a fluent reader though and just read them for fun. I give her a new book each week and she'll read them several times during the week. The books are great for her. She finds the stories amusing.

  12. We've kind of limped through this school year. We have a new baby in the family and on top of the usual sleep deprivation and feeding nonstop, he's has special medical needs and lots of dr appointments. To survive I've have to stick to the bare basics with not much of the "extras" which I'd love to do. My oldest daughter is in 1st grade this year and we have done math, reading, writing, and spelling. We've focused a lot of time of these 4 subjects to give her a strong foundation. We will make it through this year and I know she will have a good foundation. I wish that I could do more. Next year I fear, won't be any better as far as what we can accomplish. For these early grades am I doing enough? Any suggestions on what we could do to do more? For 2nd grade what is the minimum we could do and still be successful? I have the wtm book and the suggestion there is 4 1/2 hours if we did all that is suggested. I'll have a kindergartener too at this point. but for her it's just reading, writing, and math. Simple like I did for her sister when she was a k'er. Maybe I just need someone to tell me we'll be ok and my kids will survive this time.
  13. Did you start Saxon K or Saxon 1? If you started with Saxon 1, did you run into problems later when multiplication was started a grade early?
  14. This is a good thread for me. We home school my daughters and have felt so worried about not homeschooling my son with down syndrome. He's just a baby, but when he's three he'll get to have state preschool. I hope he gets teachers that can see his potential and give him a chance. It's nice to know there are people out there that care about our kids.
  15. How about A to z mystereries. They about the same reading level at magic tree house.
  16. Thank you so much. I get it now.
  17. Next year I'll have a toddler and I won't have much time for lesson planning and prep work but would like to add science into our homeschool week. My daughter really love science experiments. This year (for 1st grade) I made science experiment kits and we do one a week. Super simple. I got them from science in a bag. I bought all 3 and picked ones I wanted. so now I need to find something fun for next year. I need something easy. It could be simple lessons with an activity or just science experiments. Maybe somewhere that comes with everything needed in a kit or things that you have around the house. I dont' mind science curriculum if it's really simple. I just need something that will get done. Ideas?
  18. Now I'm confused do I need The Complete Writer: Writing with Ease Instructor Text and The Complete Writer: Writing with Ease Workbook 1 for level 1? or just the workbook?
  19. I'm hoping to use the cyber monday sale and get some of our stuff for next year. Now to my question. This will be for my daughter who will be in 2nd grade when she uses it. She struggles with penmanship and writing. Would you recommend her start out with WWE 1 or 2? I've looked at the samples and 1 almost seems like a better place to start (more simple), but is WW2 better for 2nd grade? Oh and would you buy the instuctors text as well as the workbook?
  20. Anyone know if story of the world audios will be on sale again this year?
  21. Can you share what ones you've seen are coming up?
  22. Thank you everyone for your kind words. I've really struggled with this decision and your words have helped a lot.
  23. Is anyone having to send their children to public school this year? We homeschooled for K and really enjoyed our year. I had a baby this may and I've really had a hard time. My baby was born with down syndrome and was in the hospital a good chunk of the summer. Now he is still on oxygen and a tummy feeding tube. It was also discovered I had a blood clot in my lung shortly after my c-section. So to say the least, our summer has been extremely hard. I've been struggling with a bit of depression and just can't get myself back to feeling normal. I've been running nonstop to my babies dr appointments and mine. My husband is also in his last year of Grad school so I need to prepare myself for a long year of him being gone most of the time. Unfortunately, I feel I need to take some pressure off from my shoulders this year by sending my daughter to public school. I know she'll be fine, but at the same time I feel disappointed that I am not homeschooling her this year. But I know that if I don't take care of myself, I won't be able to take care of my family. One year isn't going to hurt her. She's very bright. Thank you for listening and any input you may have.
