  1. So nice to see you  So much going on with the ILs that we have spent the whole summer pretty much dedicated to them:(. But at least we started school after the Mountain Bike acrobatics:) Had a good day of school on Monday. The rest of this week has gotten eaten by trying to get an extra person in 2 days of the week. If we don't get more help, I am going to be flat out ill and my kids probably won't graduate until they are 30  The kids do well independently, but I can't just check out completely:) How are you, dearie?
  2. Morning all! Happy Friday. I hauled my tushie out of bed specifically to get 10 minutes of uninterrupted time to pop in here :hurray: We were supposed to start school last week, but 2 weeks ago today, dh decided to do a mountain bike jump on a mulch pile. The mulch pile didn't agree. So as he approached it at 20mph, it decided to stop his front tire. He went flying over the handlebars and landed on his neck and shoulder about 20 feet away on the hard ground:( I had been, of course, organizing school items at home when he called. He rang multiple times when I didn't answer the first time - because carrying heavy box of books - and I answered with a slightly snippy, "is this some kind of emergency?" Why yes it was. Crazy man was driving from the state park to the hospital. With multiple unknown injuries and their adrenaline wearing off. With my kids in the car. :svengo: The kids thought he was fine because - get this - after he caught his breath, he stood up *laughing* and went to see the damage *to his bike*!! Luckily, their bikes were in his truck so I could have them bike home from the hospital, where I met them after helping the ILs not to freak out. The minute they left, all of the pain he had been holding in came out and the guy was sweating bullets, white as a sheet and shaking like crazy. I have never seen him in so much pain. 3 days in the hospital, 3 broken ribs, a broken shoulder, a bruised lung and a punctured lung. Lots of morphine. 6-8 week recovery. And Captain America was up getting cobwebs off the porch the second day after he was out of the hospital. He was so stir crazy, I had to take him for drives and on lots of errands. I was in worse shape from the trauma than he was, lol. It truly was a great gift that he wasn't dead or paralyzed. The weird thing is that he has done much more intricate technical jumps than that. It was a total fluke. The mulch pile was just too wet for his weight. Crazy. Oh and right before he took off, he looked over at the boys with a mischievous grin and said, "Watch this!" He has earned many cool points with the young males because broken bones:) And through it all, ILs were acting extremely weird because of the mental stuff. I am so very thankful that we have such amazing friends. They rallied in a powerful way. Today is the first day I have to cook dinner and I think my crew is sad that the tremendous bounty is over;)
  3. This was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title to this post:) There are also lots of bike trails nearby.
  4. I think we are living in a time where Pollyanna-ish is highly underrated. Everything is dystopic. Books, tv shows, movies, internet anything. It feeds that natural human tendency to the lowest common denominator. We at ITT buck the trend and look to the light. Without it, we would never see the glint of the gold nuggets that make life worth living:) Edited
  5. I was emailing with dh's cuz in AZ yesterday and they are loving the "breezy and cool" because it is under 100. Because later this week goes back up over 110. We are frying when it hits around 88-90 here. Summer keeps us humble because we are hard a-- in the winter, but summer reveals wussiness. (Is that a word?)
  6. Yup, me too. Although this weekend, I was naughty because stress. And there was a donut involved. And the Big Taste event downtown. Today, I am juice fasting. I have to double down on taking care of myself in light of the stress... health stuff has been relapsing so now is not the time for rebellion...
  7. Ooh, shiny. I have most of my things ordered. Now that they are older, I get a lot from Abe Books, so not much is shiny in the traditional sense. But the boxes are still "oddly satisfying"... kind of like killing squash bugs, apparently
  8. I had a henna tattoo once. On my chest. It was a sunshine... very risqué. That is all. Squirrel!
  9. I saw a bunny out the window this morning and thought of Bailey:)
  10. Not bad, good:) Last Saturday evening, I was in bed struggling mightily with the idea that women are somehow an afterthought to God... no idea why, but I was very bothered. Lo and behold, I walked into church on Sunday (the big church, not the little church. Because, you know, we are *still* going to two, lol.), and he delivered the most beautiful sermon on women I think I have ever heard. And this church really doesn't get into gender stuff, which is one thing I  about it. It was uncanny in a very cool way.
  11. I vote 7. I got one last month because they were having a deal at US Cellular and my kids had 5s's with straighttalk and their phones were locked up and we couldn't put them on our plan... whew. You can use headphones with them, you just have to use the ones that come with the phone. Or buy Bluetooth. Or use a little adapter thingy. But the ones that come with the phone work nicely. It hasn't been bad, but I am not a headphone ninja. And since my car is now from this decade, lol, it links up with Bluetooth. YMMV. Good to see you too  And, for the record, I *never* drink Red Bull. It has been years. And it will probably be years before I drink one again, blech. There was no coffee and there were so many children and the ILs were calling with issues and it was muggy and there was no coffee :crying: Correctamundo We had thought of heading west, but cannot leave right now. Probably won't be able to see much from where we are:( of course, the children will still be learning about it because internet. Yes, I thought we didn't keep secrets on ITT :toetap5: (who cares if this is the Internet and the whole world can read what we write;) Agreed and happy happy berfday to the lovely and talented Critter!! seconded. ROTFLOL! I was wondering this myself. ITT needs a dictionary. Or super secret code book... yes, the super secret code book would be much more fun. We have a trail near us called Scuppernong. For my whole life, I never knew that scuppernongs were a real thing. See how much we learn here!
  12. Hey lovelies. I am sitting for the second day at a tennis tourney at UW Madison. Brings back memories being here, fer sure, lol. ILs are :svengo: and I have actually been glad to be gone, which is not normal for me. I love me some adventures, but it is never because I want to escape my home. That is all I have to say about that (said in my best Forest Gump voice;) I LOVE the "slap the seals" comment above. I have copied that to my quotes list:) Also, Slache, I just want you to know I have NOT forgotten about your book. I found a box last week and hope to have them out sometime this week. I am a slacker, but they will get there before the beginning of the year, lol. I am currently sucking back a Red Bull. Coffee is better, but this will do in a pinch  must.stay.awake
  13. Your pooches will no doubt think you are the standard by whom all women should be measured:) A walk sounds really nice. I may venture forth as well.
  14. I have not forgotten to send it... I will try to get 'er done this week :embarrassed:
  15. This is a regular occurrence in our home... tell your dh that and he will kiss your feet for not being me:)
  16. You can come by me:) After a super hot muggy week, we are at 74 and breezy. It is amazing how good the air smells!
  17. I bought one of those old fold up wood racks for swim gear and towels. Easy to store at season end, looks vintage, can be painted to be pretty and sits to the side on the porch. That was my one useful thought for the day. Expect no more from me.
