I have the privilege of raising and schooling my own children.
  1. I also purchased a CC foundations booklet/manual to go over. The cost for CC is way out of our budget, but I wanted to get the book for a guideline at home and I'm curious about the memory work too. I've been using BOB books with my 4 year old. Since I was a former Montessori preschool teacher before children, I've implemented some of the early language activities. Was pleasantly surprised when I saw similarities in the VP teacher guide. I'm also going to pick up Latin For Children per recommendation of my Cousin. She used Latina Christiana initially, then switched over and liked the program much more. It's been great to have a mentor who has used the curricula successfully. I feel confident that I'm making the right decision. Now, I just have to hold on for the ride.
  2. My cousin's son is graduating this year, with his schooling through Veritas Press. He was accepted into Boise State University's Honors college, has received a Brown's Scholarship (full ride) and a presidential scholarship based on his high test scores and essay he submitted. The instructors were thoroughly impressed with his critical thinking. I know she cannot say enough good things about the curriculum. She used Memoria Press early on, before she discovered Veritas Press. She also uses Saxon Math and Shurley grammar, they are both endorsed by VP as well. I'm starting the kindergarten set with my daughter this fall, I found the Phonics Museum and History cards on ebay for a steal. It's worth spending some time to find them for a discount. I'm following her lead with Saxon and Shurley too. I just received my phonics museum in the mail today and started looking over all of the primers. They look HARD for a kindergartener. My cousin stopped by and I showed her the materials. She said that's what will make them super smart :) The extra challenge will be good for my girls, I believe.
  3. haha. That's exactly what I was thinking! Leave us your address, and we'll dump our kids on your doorstep for awhile. You will eat those words! I'm sure someday when I'm dealing with teenagers, my mind will wander over to the "I love having little children run circles around me" thought, but not today.
  4. Hello, I just bought the Veritas Press Phonics Museum Curriculum kit for kindergarten and first grade. I purchased a used bundle on ebay for a great price, however, it is missing the game pieces. I figure the game is a big part of the "fun factor" to the curriculum and I don't want to miss out on playing it with my kids. I did receive the game board, but no pawns or dice (not too worried about that), but what I am wanting are the game cards. Can anyone give me some help here? From what I can tell, the game cards are like sight word flash cards?? Since I cannot order these separately from VP, I was hoping someone here has them and could maybe take a picture or something so I could try to make my own? That would be super helpful. Any info you could give would be great, thank you!
  5. I found one similar to this in the clearance section a while back: http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/898752/Pacon-Multi-Program-Handwriting-Papers-Grade/ I checked and didn't find any on clearance. But I did find a coupon code for $10/$50 if you had some other things to order: http://www.bargainez.com/printable-coupons/10-off-50-or-more-office-depot-printable-coupon-62/ Good luck!
  6. Check out officedepot.com! I purchased a giant pack of newsprint paper with the red and blue lines. I got 500 sheets for less than $5 and shipped free with a coupon code.
  7. I just spoke with my cousin today regarding the same question. She has a high school graduate and two teenagers. She initially started Latin with Latina Christiana. She said at the time Memoria Press was about all she could find and then later switched over to Latin for Children. She highly recommends Latin for Children and said it is an excellent program. Her son was just accepted to BSU's Honors College and is receiving a Brown's scholarship (full ride- sorry to brag, but I am so excited for him!) among other scholarships. They are using Veritas Press curriculum and Latin for Children follows along with the teaching. I've also read up on it a bit, and it says that it is self-teaching, making it great for parents who are learning as well.
  8. I purchased 300 sheets for $35 ( I was the only bidder). I thought that was a good price. I don't have a Sam's club in my state.
  9. My little one is approaching kindergarten and I purchased a laminator a while back. I coupon, and see the Scotch go on sale every few months in my daily emails, but I had used the same one previously when I taught preschool and I remember it being a little "light duty." I'm sure it works fine for small things, but if I remember correctly, I had to run something through a couple of times before it would properly heat seal. I'm WAY too impatient for that, so I researched and found this one made by Royal. I love ebay and was able to find one shipped for around $35 (better than Amazon and it came with a starter kit). It is compact, heavy enough that it feels substantial, and it has a release latch in case your laminating gets crooked. So far, I am very pleased. I just picked up 300 laminating sheets (no, I am not joking, haha) on ebay from Oregon Laminations as well. Their prices are very reasonable. Here are a couple of links: Royal PL2100 Laminator (9"): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Royal-PL2100-9-Paper-Laminator-With-Starter-Kit-NEW-/310354126578?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item48428c26f2#ht_2315wt_1375 Oregon Laminations ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/oregonlaminationsstore Good luck to you!
