  1. Kiddo is currently interested about this topic. His goal is not only to be able to understand how it is fully working, but also to try to earn some money :confused1: :D Can you suggest anything please? Thanks
  2. we also have ozobots, edison and mbots. For the battle Mbots are the best. The second son loves more Ozobots and for some reason they didn't care much about Edison
  3. We have Mindstorms and Boost. Boost is super cool set for both of my boys(7 and 9), but if I have to choose one I will definitely go for Mindstorm.
  4. If someone has any more suggestions regarding, especially fiction books, pls do share it with me. So far we have decided to buy all the books by Brian Selznick :)
  5. thanks for remaining. I was going to get this book long time ago, but it skipped my mind :thumbup1: We used to get some ideas from this website, but the most of their staff is very expensive :( Great! Thanks a lot for these sites. It looks very interesting and won't break our pocket :)
  6. Thank you, but all of these books in ds's collection already and he loves them dearly :)
  7. My youngest ds has just finished reading The Invention of Hugo Cabret. He loved it so much that he's even asked for his own copy, this one was borrowed from the library. I want to buy something else and I am not sure what. What else similar could I buy for him? Can you suggest something please? Although he is deeply in love with cars from a very tender age and wants to become an engineer or a car designer, he is also fascinated by fans and other rotating motors/mechanisms and he keeps drawing them every single day for the last year :) Thanks
  8. O, Quark, you are like the light at the end of the tunnel :w00t: Thank you for cheering me up :001_smile:
  9. Are to talking about this Borac book? https://www.amazon.com/Competitive-Mathematics-Gifted-Students-Level/dp/0692240071/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8 I was just about to purchase it for my little one. There is nothing in the reviews regarding the wrong answers, so I was just wondering if I have to go ahead or not :(
  10. What a great idea! Thank you so much! I do not know why it never struck my mind to do so :w00t:
  11. and my kid is just reading ebook "Secrets of mental maths" by Benjamin 3rd time and he loves it.
  12. http://forums.welltrainedmind.com/topic/320275-designing-a-non-traditional-math-course-for-a-math-loving-structure-hating-child/?p=3272174
  13. Someone from the accelerated board suggested this book - https://www.amazon.com/Math-Book-Pythagoras-Milestones-Mathematics/dp/1402788290 We've just received it and I can say its a must-have for all ages. I'll buy all their serie! for extra practice my mathy kid uses MEP and Zaccaro's books. He also loves Chess and Programming
  14. I've stopped buying encyclopedias, no one really used them. Instead we buy thematic books though.
  15. The other day my kids built amusement park in minecraft. It was impressive, I didn't expected it at all, beside they learn lots of new thing about science, technology and of course use their creativity.
  16. Horrible Science, Horrible Geography to add to your list. My kiddos love them. Then they like biography books, books about entrepreneurship - Warren Buffet's Millionaire club is the most favourite. My ds7 reads books with eco-school's curriculum, engineering, etc. Eldest loves everything, especially about politics, history, science, sports: Olympics, science of sport and even about mathematics in sport :) And of course how to become super hero, the most strongest, the winner, etc. Everything whatever they find about these topics they borrow from our local library, the rest whatever else interesting exists I buy on amazon on a monthly basis, just search for the best reviews.
  17. She wrote this Our area has public schools that everyone loves. I read the objectives for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade and if they are accomplishing those things, I can see why people would think they are great, but they are way behind where he is. I think it's good enough to start from :) And then they can do homeschooling. We cannot but still are finding the ways to adapt to a system we stick with. Btw, my hubby is saving too and I do not blame him. He wants a life after retirement, beside you never know what tomorrow might bring :(
  18. Thanks for sharing! My kiddo will love it :)
  19. My kids were at Montessori kinder and after that they moved to the church school, a quiet good one in our area, but it's nothing close to the level we need. Homeschooling is not permitted in our area and a private one, which I only agree to send, will kill our budget completely. Despite that my kids are much ahead than most of their peers, especially the eldest, they absolutely have no problem with socialising, having fun during the school time and even learning something new. For example, there is another language, which they never learn before, handwriting was also never tackled at home. And then we do afterschooling and complement their knowledge with a completely different curriculum. On the top of that kids do many hours of sport, music, arts and lots of reading. Kids are very happy at school. And trust me they would never change anything in exchange for a private school, even Montessori one :)
  20. My eldest is enjoying Sherlock Holmes, Philip Pullman, Trenton Lee Stewart, Enid Blyton, Terry Pratchett, Rudyard Kipling - Captains Courageous, non-fiction books. which he reads much more than fiction. Also we are following Mensa list and he's currently re-reading all the greatest what he read for the last 4 years. This Autumn-Winter I will try to give him Jules Verne, Jack London, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas, etc
  21. Thank you for this one! I think i will enroll my youngest, if Europeans are being accepted :)
  22. We do not have a list for the year, but for a month. This summer my eldest is rereading everything he read 3-4 years ago, as he does not remember anything :confused1: On the top of these he has just received three full "Horrible" sets (science, history and geography). My mom gave some cash as a b'day present and he splashed out everything on the books. Now he is intended to read them all till the end of summer holidays, but I guess it's far from a realistic picture, especially taking in consideration that he is having 17 hours of sport per week this summer, so definitely he will be reading them through the next year :)
  23. He-he, I wanted to be short, but it seems I couldn't :smilielol5:
